What caused the '02/'03 deficit?
Was that the fallout from the XFL failure?

Yeah, it started in Feb. '01 and ran until April of that year. :o ;D

I don't know if that fiscally impacted any part of 2002 revenues or not.

i wonder how much of the last few years having such solid profits is due to the "PG" thing so that advertisers are coughing up more?

Not nearly as much as the attitude era. The pg thing is too stale. Too lame. Its like HHH said in many interviews, John Cena's fans come 9pm is way past their bedtime. Seriously thought folks, would you rather watch a 1999 Steve Austin drive out to the ring in a zamboni diving off it and kciking the crap out of the Rock, Shane & Vince OR John Cena? Lets be realistic now.

There is no comparison for me.  i remember me and friends being glued to the TV during the monday night wars.....drinking beer and having a great time.  We would watch beginning of Nitro, flip to Raw and then catch the replay of Nitro later.

LOL... WAY too many times to count.  I bet when we were growing up, we didn't know each other until the 7th-8th grade, if they were wrestling within a 2hr drive at least one of us was at every event.  haha

I was only 10 years old in the mid eighties but man....I would have killed to see the original Horsemen in an event or at a bar or something.

Saw Flair wrestle more before the Horsemen.  And seeing them out at bars was in the WCW era, unfortunately.  I can only imagine what it would have been like in 86-87 or so.... whooooooo !!!!!!!

Ole Big does have a funny story about Scott Hall....I'll tell it since he is probably too drunk to post it most days.... ;D

He went to a nitro in the nWo heyday with some other friends.  Hall was at the bar and sitting with a couple of kinda rough looking chicks.  He stayed "in character" the whole night and when he left to go back to his room with the girls, he did the "airplane walk" like he used to do thru the bar......haha

Lol!! That is GOLD! Imagine a drunk Scott Hall doing his famous airplain walk through a crowed bar.....OMG...Lol...
A couple of co-workers of mine went to Chicago for business one weekend and they hit a higher end bar downtown and saw Ric Flair at a private booth with two of the hottest blonds that you can imagine and supposedly he was married to Tiffany at this time.

I was SO pissed that I missed it.  On the same trip, Hennig was in the bar and one of our friends asked him about the gum slapping thing where he spits it out and bats it...."What do you do if you miss?"  Hennig just looked him in the eye, all serious, and said "I've never missed...."  hahaha

Oh man, EVERY time we saw Flair that was the case.  The guy wasn't doing a gimmick, that IS him.  And you could just tell he always had the whole table hanging on his every word.

Actually the girl in the Hall story was a groupie I am sure.  She was kind of hefty.  Hall got up, winked at me and did his walk out of the bar.  The funny thing is, he was back within thirty minutes and working on doing it all over again.  Very cool guy.  Later on that night, he was outside the bar crying on Okerlund's shoulder about how bad his life was.

Also, Henning was an avid golfer.  I was a golf pro at the time at a very exclusive private club.  Henning found out (I think it was referee Randy Anderson that told him) and wanted to play.  Of course I said sure.  He drug Okerlund into the conversation and he wanted to go as well.  I told him that even though he had always been a prick, I would take him since Hennig wanted him to go.  I also told Hennig that he would have to somehow stuff all that hair under a hat.  He said that was fine.  He was a very cool guy!

Sadly, Hennig died not long after that.  He still owes my buddy a beer.

Preliminary pay-per-view purchase estimates for the 2011 Royal Rumble is 449,000 buys, down from last year (410,000). The figure is in line with 2009, which drew 450,000 buys. Of course, the Royal Rumble is one of WWE’s “big four” yearly pay-per-views. So you think the WWE hasn't gone downhill? Think again.
