That's the kind you want. I work w/ combat engineers and we have the newer ones that are plastic type. They split when you drop them.

Grab the goruck sandbag.

Multiple handles, unbreakable, and it has two removable velcro sand bladders that don't leak.

I have the 80lb vesion, but the 60 is on sale right now:

Did you wear compression shorts?....reading they are a big help
I'm thinking 3/4 compression pants to protect my knees {I know, no way this doesn't sound homo :-\}

....I usually just run in a bathing suit and trainers.

It's not about hardness per say. It's just the idea of it isn't fun to me. Shooting shit, hiking, sleeping outside. The USMC finds a way to make all these things tainted for life.

The best thing about the Go ruck bag is the sand bladders.  I'm sure the army surplus ones are cool too.

Unless you tear your IT band carrying the army surplus one.  Then not cool.

Yeah, Army one had handles all over it but no "bladder ". Pretty damn durable though.

Yeah.  I've only used the goruck one, which works for me since it's mainly indoors.   The bladders can be swapped to make the bag go from 80lbs to 40lbs, and never spills anything, so there's no sand anywhere.

I got into making stuff for exercise for about a month - bulgarian sandbags can be made from inner tubes, military bags can be made into sandbags.....never pulled the trigger on it, but it looks good:

My ankles are like soft spaghetti these days, I'd snap them off if I went over them in trainers now. Have you done a lot of them?

Only short 5k ones before...this one is  between 6-8 miles and 25 obstacles.
Title: Re: Question on sand bags.
Post by: CalvinH on April 27, 2015, 01:09:36 PM
Will be fun. I'm helping out for the day staffing one of these events next month. You should have a look at some lightweight sneeker type boots for longer events that will be through mud and uneven terrain...very easy to fuck your ankles when you're carrying weight. Magnums or Adidas GSG9's are some good, really lightweight boots that will give a bit of support.

Thanks will look into it.
Title: Re: Question on sand bags.

Thanks will look into it.

You don't need boots for your event.  I did the 13 mile TMs in reebok zigtech and atv19s.  People do them in minimalist shoes.   Goruck is where you need to pay special attention to footwear.
