depends on what your fat intake is...


obviously the tuna packed in oil has fat in it....but the olive oil is good for you...

remember, just cause youre dieting doesn't mean you go 0 grams of fat.

I eat tuna in water only because I get most of my fat from other things.  Plus I always cook most of my food in olive oil.

The one with more oil has way more calories....remember the calories count...

Fat is fat and a calorie is still a calorie...yes Olive Oil is healthy but 1 gram of it still has 9 calories...

if cutting I'd go for water
another thing - veg oil is usually quite healthy (olive oil even better) but I'm convinced that the one they use in the cans of tuna is a real low quality - another reason to prefer the one in water

you can get really good tuna in water if you're willing to pay a bit more. 

This is my current favorite and I buy it by the case:

All the albacore that we catch and process from the colder Pacific waters are specifically between the ages of 2-5 years old. Using the 'hook & line' methods allows us to monitor and inspect each catch. Mercury levels in such fish are at minimal trace levels, some non-detectable. The albacore we catch from the northwest has a very high oil content.

This one is good too and the owner (Dave) is a good guy.  Again, everything is line caught, young fish, packed in their own juices, etc..  He also has superb canned salmon (Copper River sockeye) but it's a bit pricey

i once made a tuna fish sandwich before a show (i play in a band)

1 can tuna, some mayo, on wheat bread.

I noticed it was oil when I drained it, but what the hell, I was hungry.

I got to the rock show and wow... the oil started to do its job... gulp...

imo go for the water. You can always get more calories somewhere else.  ;)
