Checking Out A-v-e-s-h-e-r's Forum Could Be Risky

Having a natural curiosity or just stupidity, I visited A-v-e-s-h-e-r's forum a few days ago. I started to join and then thought better of it. Not long after I did this, someone hacked my Facebook account creating a "mirror" page and proceeded to try and friend my friends, unsuccessfully I might add. They also attempted to solicit money for an online gambling scam. I had Facebook take the mirror page down as soon as I discovered it.

To be honest, I have no idea if there is any connection, but the coincidence is hard to ignore. ripped is buds with Joon. Joon is into gambling, or so he/she claims. Needless to say, I learned a lesson about being curious. And some say old people have nothing left to learn.

I have had friends requests from you too 3 times. Yesterday evening was the third. I ignored it because i know you are on my friends list. I had this with Karen too.

-Smart man. Some of my Facebook friends who received a friend request from the fake account immediately contacted me. Thanks to them and Facebook, the fake account was taken down pretty quick.

I did a little bit of research on how people create these fake Facebook accounts and it seems comparatively easy. Too bad Facebook can't do something to prevent this happening. It is both annoying and disconcerting.

Thatīs why i never put private stuff in Facebook...nothing about my Family and work. Itīs just not safe.

You've seen my Facebook page. It is pretty uninteresting in terms of any juicy bits. There are a lot of friends and family there and unlike some Facebook pages, I actually know all these people, most of them personally. About all anyone can do who hacks it, is what was done, which was to try and friend my friends and scam them for money, in this case for some online gambling scheme. I don't think my friends are stupid enough to fall for such nonsense.

I did a little research last night, discovering that fake Facebook pages (timelines) are very common. Fortunately, Facebook is really responsive and the page was taken down really quickly. If the should happen to any of you all, the fake one is easy to figure out because the fake one has no friends.

Did you know someone can use a posted photo of your face to locate your Facebook page? I didn't until just recently. It is pretty easy to do.

A mirror or imposter Facebook page "mirrors" your regular Facebook page in the it looks the same. If you use a profile photo, that's recreated. Your timeline is copied. What makes it different is that your friends aren't automatically moved to the fake page. The faker has to befriend them and that's how I've been tipped off that someone had hacked my page. My friends notified me immediately that the fake was asking to befriend them.
