Gotta add that the following movies ... I can't consider as scarrie!
The Exorcist except when her head did a 360.
The Shining (nothing at all was scarrie in it.)
and Rosemary's Baby definitely lacked any form of "scarri-ness".
But those damn Killer Klowns ... I don't want to think of those guys.
My very first scarrie movie was an old Abbott and Costello flicker where a cat crawled into a skull and made it move along the bedroom floor. That was epic scarri-ness back then.
-
c. The Hills Have Eyes
Original or remake?

The Ring, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Insidious.

UGLY, Good question, but I don't know which one I saw due to the fact that there have been to many and too many sequels too.

I'd say this one.

UGLY, I am defilnitely a HORROR guy. I even snuck out of grammar school to go downtown to see FRANKENSTEIN but they wouldn't allow 6 year old kids inside, so I think I went and saw THE OUTLAW instead which was just sex and tits and kissing horror stuff such as that for a little kid.
I forget if THE PROPHECY was considered a Horror film or a Horrible film, but I was asked to appear in that one because I liked Horror movies or they thought I'd like to be in a horrible movie. (Pick one cause I forgot!)
Friends involved invited me to be a long away, distant bear (no close-ups) but I was long away on the other side of the world someplace and had to turn down any chance of Academy Award consideration.
But tomorrow is a better day and that day will come again.
Ya gotta be optimistic with these movie guys.
-
UGLY, I didn;t see that one! But I hereby promise to make an attempt my next Blockbuster visit on 39 cent day.
Anyone work in a slaughter house?

I saw The Prophecy when I was in grade school. I loved it then, but yeah, it was probably horrible. Good times. Thanks for responding to the thread.
-
Anyone work in a slaughter house?
I worked in the morgue for a couple weeks. Similar, I guess.
-
UGLY, Glad to see someone liked it. My best Marine Corps bud was big time in Hollywood back then and always invited me to be a part of any movie he worked on and that included his TV shows also.
So i spent a lot of time meandering around the front and back lots of Universal while he was jumping off of high places or swinging through some artificial trees or standing in for principal actors who didn't want to get wet or something like that.
Jack was the good guy who was loved by one and all at Universal so after he tossed me through a window a few times or hit me over the head with breakaway bottles, chairs and tables, we'd get invited to the Executive Lunch Room which was just opposite the star's lunch room and we'd enjoy a meal or two with the big bosses and any star who was important enough to dine with us on that occasion ... or any star who was causing problems on that particular day.
I was not important but Jack was because he was the problem solver and I was the guy who drove with him to some important incidents that required solving.
And that's when I got to hold a real OSCAR and practice my acceptance speech while a minor problem stopped from becoming major.
Or something like that.
Fun days back then!

Maybe it's already been said, stunt, but you had the best job ever. I bet you got a million stories.
Are you retired now?
-
Yep, retired and a bit retarded, but I only got lots of stories to tell because I got kicked out of the house at an early age with the order from a strict Norwegian father to, "Get out and go meet some people!'
Now I'm glad that he said that and even glad-der that I did it.
At the age of 17, it you live any closer than 20 miles from where your were born and raised, I'd give the same advice ... and once away from those you know and love, always give a hearty hand-shake.
And keep an eagle's eye for the bad ones. Watch them closely because you'll learn a lot from them also and be wiser in the process.
SOrry .... Sermon time!
-

saw it... nothing special bunch of whores go out in a cave and encounter something HORIBLE... movie is made for girls i think so they can shit their pants while watching it
i even think theres a sequel but im not sure... will not watch it of course

UGLY, the dad who kicked me out of the house was a friend of Reeves when they were young kids in the Oakland Hills and that was my first association with bodybuilders and physical exercise.
I used to climb every tree over 30 feet tall in San Francisco in an effort to get as big as some of my dad's friends who used to throw me into the San Francisco Bay to 'teach' me how to swim.
And then got kicked out and moved in with an older cousin in Los Angeles who was an up and coming movie star so I'd train with him in his San Fernando garage and would meet an occasional stunt person who was working with him on his present movie.
ANd that stuntman association grew larger as I got older and after I joined the Corps I'd go to LA and visit friends who were already making themselves known in the movie business ... and it just continued from that point on.
Now my younger family members are in the business so my associations continue but not as much as in the good old days when we'd find ourselves raising hell with some of top people in the movie biz who were somewhat difficult to recognize without their toupees and tummy tuckers and in- front-of-camera makeup.
But I'd damn proud that I've met the majority of them and I hope to continue to do so.
I don't know if you recall a TV show where a dragon lived under the stairs (The Monsters maybe??) but I'd go inside there sometimes and scare any of the kids who were visiting the set.
That's my claim to TV series fame. But the youngsters in the family are big time and I know you've seen them in most of the blockbusters you've seen over the past ten years or so.
As for me outside of my stunt stuff, you might be able to see me in Pal Joey if it wasn't cut for the DVD version. I'm the guy who looks at his watch only to realize I wasn't wearing one and gets knocked over by Sinatra or his double while walking through Chinatown. It's the scene where he gets kicked out of the bar for some reason.
That was my biggest on screen role as an 'actor' ... but I did get a chance to talk with KIM for about five minutes while she was waiting to shoot her next scene with Frank.
She liked me because I was very polite while she was being odered about because Frank was in a hurry.
But after that ... she soon forgot me.

I thought it was pretty good, much better than the similar Hollywood production "The Cave".
Descent II sucked ass. Not a terrible movie, but just not good enough to be a sequel. Your other recommendations are good.

Are you listed on IMDb? I know you probably want to remain anonymous, so I won't ask your name here. I found onlyme on there, but we all knew his real name anyway.
Thanks for sharing your stories. One question: Have you ever met James Cagney? He's probably my all-time fave.

UGLY. It's funny that you mentioned CAGNEY because another nephew of mine (MARK)was somehow associated with Madonna, Janet Jackson, Liz. Arnold, and even higher-ups and was invited to a dinner which was being hosted by "some older actor who lived next door to Jimmy Stewart, or George Burns, or some other famous actor of that time" (his words) and was asking me for some information so that he woulsn't appear to be a complete idiot over cocktails or at the dinner table.
When it came to movies he actually was a complete idiot because he was a total outdoor guy who never watched any movie except for the one time we took him to see ROCKY.
He also got kicked out of the house at a young age, but he did manage to meet the right people and ended up working with Madonna, Jackson, etc. and Herb Ritts ... which opened many opportunities within the model advertisement biz.
So he became popular within old Hollywood social gatherings and found himself having big dinners in Beverly Hills mansions without any idea of who was sitting at his right or left and no idea about the movie that would soon be shown in the mansion's private screening room.
But Mark was polite, good looking, and a perfect dinner guest, so he was on some exclusive dinner guest list.
So I' d usually get a call saying that he met so and so last night or he saw BATMAN before the sound effect track was added or he barowed some star's car and wanted to show me the sound system that cost many thousands, or how great Madonna's birthday was, etc.
Lots more to this story but I gotta head out.
If you saw the Madonna CHERISH video, you saw Mark.

The Thing! great movie!! not really Halloween themed, but still, great pick my friend. MacReady! Windows! scary.
-
A lot of movie fans say that THE SHINING was a scary movie, but I find that difficult to agree with for some unknown reason.
I'll have to take a look at it again.
I read the original screenplay or the book which had a different ending in which the principal character runs into the maze and the bushes that were cultivated to look like animals came to life and 'done him in'.
Or was that ALICE IN WONDERLAND? (Help from any book reader would be appreciated!)
Has anyone seen GHOST SHIP? The opening death scene aboard ship was very well done and downright sickening. Maybe even scary.
-
The Thing! great movie!! not really Halloween themed, but still, great pick my friend. MacReady! Windows! scary.
Yes one of my favorites, interested to see what the remake turns out like.
-
I have yet to see the latest version of THE THING (the 3rd, I think), but the original was downright boring and THE THING thing looked like a stalk of corn ... or maybe two stalks.
But even then it packed the theaters,
Still no mention of the original DIABOLIQUE where movie goers actually suffered heart attacks towards the conclusion and an ambulance had to stand by for repeat performances.

High Tension (Haute Tension)
REC (movie that was remade for US as Quarantine)
Audition (J-Horror movie)
-
'Inside' (2007) - French with Beatrice Dalle. Far better than anything mentioned so far.
High Tension is also good, yes.
Not really scary, but I always liked the Phantasm films.
Nightmare on Elm Street will always be a classic; the remake was a travesty.
-
I recommend Dagon.
I own it. I think it's a Stuart Gordon film, the fellow who also made the Re-animator series.

Check out Funny Games (the original German version, not the lame American remake). Not so much a horror flick, it's more of a psychological thriller, along the lines of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Also, another great psychological thriller is Das Experiment...

Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, two more good remakes. Maybe not pure horror, but The Devil's Rejects is a fine film as well.

Problem w the remake was that the actor was too big to the point of being cartoonish.
Original was scary as he'll because leather face looked like a typical fat guy. that door opened w the mallet and I was lie WWWTTTFFFF!!!

Not necessarily a horror motion picture,...but "A Clockwork Orange", despite being a 42 year old movie, remains undiminished in it ability to shock people who see it for the first time.

Dr. Satan.
Pissed me off because she was not in the mood for anything after that!

"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is the only non-James Bond movie produced by Eon Productions...Ian Fleming wrote the book and forced Eon to make it...It was made with many of the technician/supporting actors that made "GoldFinger". In an interview later Gert Frobe said he much more enjoyed making Chitty than Goldfinger.

Did it tie it in well with the two previous ones?

Psycho
Friday the 13th
Halloween......with Jamie Lee Curtis
-
The first one is the grittiest most heart pounding horror of the last decade. Nothing comes close. Google it. Don't watch a dubbed version.
The second is the perfect campy ghost story for all the family. Lots of fun, solid story and dark humor.

Got to go classic on Halloween!
Halloween
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Excorcist
Although The Shining, Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead, Scream, IT, and Texas Chainsaw are all worthy of the list! Evil Dead 2 is possibly my favourite of all, but it's too funny and enjoyable to put on the list!

Great choice. I think 'Inside' (also French) is grittier though, have you seen it?
-
Not necessarily a horror motion picture,...but "A Clockwork Orange", despite being a 42 year old movie, remains undiminished in it ability to shock people who see it for the first time.
Great film.
Couple more good ones:
"Offerings" (Halloween ripoff before Halloween came out ;D ).......not "Burnt Offerings" which is very good also.
"The Amityville Horror" (first one,as well as the 2nd. one with Burt Young.)
Any Hammer film or old Universal horror film is great as well.............elabora te gothic sets and costumes, as well as great actors

Yup, I agree. I recommended Martyrs because its the more well known and notorious of the French Horrors. Inside is definitely creepier with more tension. I actually much preferred the first half of Martyrs. Once the Old woman turned up at the house and the torture chamber was revealed, the tension kind of disappeared for me, which is the opposite opinion of most people.
