I have just realised that at some point I started reading some of yours in the voice of none other than the Duke himself - John Wayne

Pretty much. I went to  the National Taiwan Museum when I was on business in Taipei. They had exhibits from mainland China and I was shocked at how backwards the Chinese culture was in relation to the western world. It wasn't until western visitors arrived in the 1700's did China start to get out of the stone age.

Not really. When you go to the big cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, etc), you see a lot of western conveniences. But the moment you get 10 miles away it goes to shitville. Pit toilets, outdoor markets where animals are slaughtered while you wait, trash everywhere, etc, etc. Unless people have actually traveled in China do they realize how poor it actually is. It is a lot like Eastern Europe used to be under the Soviets.


China gets everywhere by stealing tech and copying. Period.
