And, in 1994, the Democrats got SLAUGHTERED in the midterms. Clinton had a GOP congress for 75% of his presidency and had to move to the center to save his presidency.

He passed welfare reform (kicking and screaming). He signed the Defense of Marriage Act (for which the current VP voted).
