What's the bullshit deal with "SEA SALT"?
« on: December 09, 2014, 12:07:42 PM »
It annoys the fuck out of me how marketers try to make something cheap seem high end by listing salt as "SEA SALT"  cheap as Lays chips with sea salt or chocolate with sea salt etc...  so lame.  I guess people don't realize that all salt came from the sea.

Wendy's ruined their fries with that stuff.

And it's impossible to find a decent chili dog nowadays.

Yes you are right. What the OP should have mentioned that they are essentially the same while people make a big deal how wonderful and special sea salt is.

I think sea salt doesn't have iodine, something like that.

Yep, which IMO makes it not as good as normal salt as far as people talking about it being such a healthful salt in comparison.

Many people who switch to sea salt/use more of it tend to increase their total salt intake. This can be problematic.

I think the opposite is true. Typically, the larger/coarser the flake/crystal, the less someone will use.

Iodine is added to typically highly processed everyday table salt.

Its not.  There are differences in sea salt and if you are experienced, you know them.

Different salts peak differently, dissolve differently, have a different texture and spread throughout a mixture differently, each has a different effect on moisture in foods.

There is a lot of difference and variation depending on what salt you use.
