DJ, I just got back from the gym and it's strange that you suggested it because that is exactly what I did for 30 minutes.

Only 30 because I was depending on a ride from a friend who was on a time schedule.

Here's a photo I found on the net of the bike I used today for 30 minutes but only managed to get my HR rate up to 106 before I had to hop off.

I'll be riding for 40 minutes tomorrow when I don't have to depend on someone else's courtesy.

And possibly  run it up to 60 minutes two weeks down te road and see where it takes  my HR.

Thanks again.

HEENOK, Walking is great for you. I suggest you Google "10,000 Steps a Day" and read it thoroughly and then download a Pedometer app on your cellphone which will count your daily steps for you among other things.

But if you want more accurate daily activity stats other than what that phone app offers, take Go4's advice and look at a good  number of FitBit devices.

Hey, GO4, A few weeks ago I bought a FitBit Ionic with one extra band for $300 at Sam's Club (regular price was $339), but I got shit for brains when it comes time to set up technical stuff such as this Ionic watch, but I did try and ended up taking it back for a full recovery because 'I are stupid'.

But now I may be getting one of those smaller FitBits that don't appear too complicated.

My question here is ... I hate running for a number of reasons but I have absolutely no problem walking 4 to 6 miles per day or per every other day (depending on the LV heat).

Under those conditions, what must I do to  lose body fat? Or is it absolutely necessary to get my heart rate higher than my normal 4 - 6 mile walking heart rate? (At present I have no idea what my heart rate is while walking relatively long distances, nor do I know how long it remains higher than my resting heart rate)

At present I am only counting 'steps per day' with a 10,000 steps per day (PLUS) with my cell phone app without tracking any heart rate.

So back to the store to purchase one of those less than $170 Fitbits.

Do I 'gotta run' to get my HR up to the losing fat plateau?

No need to say, "Diet" as I am well versed in that regards.
Stunt, you need to have a computer or device with a USB port so you can set up your watch, they have all kinds of features that you can use, even track your sleep with it. In terms of walking, if its intense enough (70-80%) of your maximum heart rate,  but truthfully you will have better success with swimming,  stepper, elliptical.  Dude be careful walking in Vegas it's hot as fuck. Also if you can do it on a empty stomach (fasted in the morning) in my opinion will give you optimal results.  Theres conflicting evidence on this but I've done both fasted and with meals in me, and I've always seen way better results fasted.

Good stuff, keep it up

Steady state training is very good but you shouldn't do it more than twice a week

You can add in an interval day and an easy day and if your up for it a lsd (long slow distance) day this lsd sessionot should last at least 45 minutes

DJ/GO4, THANKS for the above remarks.

This HR discussion has been a re-edumacation because at one time I was the neighborhood know-it-all on all things "aerobic" .... but over time I just got stupid .... although I never gave up aerobic type training and can still outwalk most getbiggers regardless of the weather.

But when it gets too damn hot (100+++) here in Vegas, it's just a matter of taking a 5 - 6 mile walk up and down the Strip with a short but non-stop hike through the air-conditioned casinos and out into the heat once again.

But I still miss those damn So. Cal beaches and Waikiki where it's possible that I own some records for constant beachfront, long distant walking .... or so I have been told.

Next purchase .... Fitbit  Versa at $199.00 for long walk activity.

BTW ... It's a 2 hour walk from my place to the new LV Raiders Stadium
and another 20 minutes to the closest Strip hotel (Mandalay Bay).

Cardio has to be continuous. Yes, intervals of running and walk rest is still continuous. Ever since these fit bits came out every one wants credit for exercise for just being alive. Yes, jobs where you stand and walk from time to time is better than sitting jobs. Just don't con yourself into thinking you are exercising.

I ran a hard 3 miles prior to work and this obese woman said she did more exercise than me because of the amount of steps recorded on her Fit Bit. If she tried to keep up with me on a 3 mile run after a quarter mile or less she would puking.

I'm a runner but I surely acknowledge that walking fast for 5 miles a day melts fat away like magic. One month of 5 days week of 5 miles fast walking works amazing toward fat loss.

Thanks, Oldtimer, "One month of 5 days week of 5 miles fast walking works amazing toward fat loss."

I certainly cannot disagree with that!
