We do stuff for other countries as well but mostly U.S..I'd like to say I have the job because I have a master in business but that would be a lie. I happened to live next to the family that owns the company and started dating there daughter the rest as they say is history.
Say, you don't happen to have a sales rep. named Dell Griffith, do you?  :D

Paint cars on the side.

With add'l training, will you be qualified to paint them on the top, front, and back as well?

I know when I want a car painted, I prefer them paint the entire thing.

I work in the mental health field as a Masters level clinical psychologist and currently in a PhD program for clinical psychology

Did you have the option to take an M.Sc in experimental psychology?

that where the future is

So this is what getbiggers mean when they claim they work for a Fortune 500 company?

Hmm. On your deathbed, you might feel a bit differently about this one. If you're lucky, you might realize it a bit earlier.

/damn, have you never seen a christmas carol!?

You can be rich and unhappy, sure.  What I mean is that money is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for happiness.

Your company you work for may not exist if it wasn't for the fact that the US justice system is just a money making racket to begin with.

Nope. The school I went to did not offer that degree. I am sure if I applied somewhere, I might of been accepted. Actually, I applied to St Johns University and they have an MA in general/experimental psychology, but I chose Adelphi University becasue they are heavily immersed in Psychoanalytic theory. Plus, I am more a clinical practicioner than I am a research scientist, so the Masters of Science would of been pretty boring to me lol :). I do not mind research, but I like the clinical aspect more :)

Actually, I wound up getting my Masters thesis published under my professor and her work. In march, I am going to Chicago to present my finding at the "Society for Research on Adolescence." GRRR, I hate research, but I am sure I will cope fine :)

Would you say a Ph.D in clinical psychology is the best possible Ph.D to get in Psychology, as opposed to a Ph.D in Psychological Sciences following the M.Sc route?  I never looked at these choices from an employment perspective because I don't ever expect to work a job again, but it's nice to have options open.

It did between 2004-2006 - for a student at least.  It has dropped dramatically since then (about half).  BBPro was the first website I designed, but I have made many others since then.  It still makes enough to pay my bills - given that my bills only work out to about $1,500 a month.  But some website projects can go for upwards of $3,000 and even if I get one per month, I am doing very well.  In addition, I work at some clubs for fun which is good for another few thousand a year.  I am also a professional student and get another few thousand a year above and beyond my school expenses.  Also, traveling to bodybuilding contests is tax deductible for me, and BB.com gives me all my supplements free for review.

All and all I am comfortable and happy where I am, but my goal in life is to make as much money as possible.  Money buys everything.  Example:

https://secure.pardonservicescanada.com/apply/service_info.aspx

So you can just buy a criminal record away?  ::)

How immoral is a system where protecting society is a capitalist venture?  If you have enough money, you basically have the right to murder someone or molest a child!  OJ is proof of that.  Billionaires basically do not get charged ever.  But now that I know how the game is played, I will damn well play it and I will allow no one to mess with my survival (money).

Sounds like you are doing what you love and doing well. I have a question, are you the guy that told me on MSN that making 50 dollars a day is a good living where you are? No flame, I just don't remember if it was you or not. Also, if that was you, where do you live in Canada that the price of living is so low?

In the end man, it doesn't even matter. You can get a PhD in applied developmental psychology, get respecialized in clinical training, take your boards and become a clinical practicioner. I know someone who did that. I do not think one is better than the other. It depends what your goals are.

Since I am more interested in the clinical aspects as opposed to the research side, I chose a school that focuses more on clinical than becoming a researcher. Though, I get training in both, more of an emphasis on the clinical aspect of psychology.

Even if you go for the PhD in psychological sciences, you have to focus on a specific topic. You can focus on "clinical science" which leads to licensure and thats all that matters. If you like research more, you can focus on cognition and/or neuroscience, developmental psychology or quantitative methods and evaluation, as welll as many others. Depends what areas interest you. And as long as the clinical program is APA approved, its all good :)

I plan to focus on marriage and family therapy and substance abuse.

$50 isn't a "good" living, meaning living large or anything.  I'm saying that where I am from, $50 a day will easily cover all my expenses:

- $600 (mortgage, home expenses, for a four bedroom, two bathroom house, suitable for a family of five)
- $600 food bill (buys a perfectly adequate bodybuilding diet)
- $200 gas
- $100 car insurance
- $95 (land line, cell phone, internet)

Then I have miscellaneous expenses like car repairs and gym membership and so on.

I live like a miser and literally do not spend more than $500 a year on myself above and beyond my base expenses.  Everything else is saved or reinvested into my web design business.

I am from Northwestern Ontario and with the closure of several mills, people are poor here.  It is routine for some of my friends to literally not have the money to go to the movies on cheap night or catch the bus.  So when I can build a FLASH based website for easily $1,000 or more and do it in a weekend, that is a lot of money around here.

Socialism is currently helping Thunder Bay, but it was socialist overhead (union wages and the like) which caused the closure of mills to begin with.  Usually MORE socialism is never the answer, but the welfare state of my city is at least preventing people from starving (although it got them there to begin with).

It should be noted that I spend basically nothing on myself.  I am keenly aware that money makes more money so I would rather save my money for a possible future business plan (flipping houses for instance) than be materialistic.  Another reason why I don't spend a lot of money on myself is because I just have a pleasant and simple existence.  Since I don't need to work and can just go to school and hang out with my friends all the time, I am seldom stressed out which would require a great expenditure to make up for that and make me feel better.  Also, I think it is possibly in my DNA to be a miser.  If not, it is definitely environmental, following in the footsteps of my parents and grandparents who never spent anything on themselves.

PS - thanks for the info on post grad work.

That makes sense and like I said I wasn't even positive it was you who had said that, you know how those MSN group convos get. It seems you are doing what you love to do and that is more than most people can say. I know your dollar is different(stronger now actually :o) than ours, but I wish I could get these deals-

- $95 (land line, cell phone, internet)

My two cells are 115$, cable and internet150$, home phone 60$. :(

Also, are you escrowed? A 600 dollar mortgage is awfully rare.

Many wealthy people developed the habits of spending little on themselves early in their lives. Good going Max! :)

The house I described above cost $109,000 and is very comfortable.  In Calgary, the same house would probably cost around $240,000 if you got it for a great price.  Thunder Bay is losing 11 young people a day and real estate has gone way down.  My mortgage interest rate was also very low.  A land line in Thunder Bay is $25 and a cell phone is $25 for a basic plan including 100 daytime minutes and free evening and weekends.  Call display and other features are usually $3 extra per month each.  Internet is $38 a month and I also get bundling discounts for having all my services provided by TBAYTEL.  Everything is cheap here.  The winter here has been unusually mild and even heating costs are low now thanks to that.  To pursue my Ph.D costs me nothing thanks to graduate assistantships and scholarships and I can actually even bank a little money by going to school, providing that I work for the school 10 hours each week.

So, you are going for your PhD now or you plan on it?

I did a grauate assistanship when I was in my Masters program. I was an assistant professor and had to help teach classes, grade papers, etc.  They gave me around 3K for the semester. Not bad.

Government funding basically pays for my school and then some.  Health care is provided by the government.  I am still not a fan of socialism, but I can't deny it has benefited me personally, but that is a selfish reason to endorse it.

I will be pursuing my Ph.D unless something comes up.  I will definitely be completing my Master's degree, and I do hope to do a Ph.D too even though it is another four years.  I just haven't decided which Ph.D program yet, because as of 2009, Lakehead will offer numerous Ph.D's in Psychology, so I will decide on which one later.

What are you specifically getting your MA in?

The PhD in clinical feels like it takes forever. Four years of classes, dissertation, one year internship in a psychiatric hospital and finally take your boards to become licenced :(...I have already been in school for 7 or 8 years (not including the PhD) :(...After all this is done, I plan to go back for my MA in philosophy :)
