a female friend of mine just had kidney stones. They had her on a ton of meds, she got a stint in the kidney, stones blasted, etc.
Her RBC and WBC counts suddenly reversed. It was textbook from the particular meds she was on, and there were a wealth of websites which detailed her need to wait 3 months before panicking, as this was normal when the body endures major infection and major medication. I looked it up for her, showed her there was nothing to worry about, and assured her that in january her cell counts would return to August form, before the infection. They were already treanding back at 10% a month - not too much to stress.
Well, her doctor decided to throw her into a panic. he said "RBC and WBC changes could be cancer!" and had her do a month of intensive tests. She was terrified, crying all the time, worried about dying. her next BC counts came, and she was trending further down - RBC and WBC were almost back to normal in Dec. Still, despite the urgings of me, a Doc friend of mine, and the websites detailing this would happen, she spent the month worrying.
Finally the doctor finished up his battery of tests, charged her fat insurance company 70 grand or something insane, and told her she was fine.
A month of worry because this guy wanted the check. She said his practice was always empty and it seemed like she was his only customer. Piece of crap doc.
