No record of Biden Naval Academy appointment he boasted of in speech

President Biden claimed last month at the Naval Academy’s graduation ceremony that he was appointed to the military school in 1965 by the late Sen. J. Caleb Boggs (R-Del.), but a search of Boggs’ archives has failed to turn up evidence to back the claim.

Curators at the Delaware Historical Association in Wilmington were able to find records of Boggs’ academy nominations for just one year in the early 1960s and could not locate records for either 1965 or the more plausible year 1961.

That means, barring evidence from an unlikely third party, that it’s probable only Biden — who often shares incorrect or exaggerated memories — can prove his claim.

“Our staff devoted a large chunk of last week to this project. We hauled and sorted through a few dozen boxes from the relevant years, which proved to be a needle-in-a-haystack proposition, as we feared,” chief curator Leigh Rifenburg told The Post.

Rifenburg said the three-person library staff was able to find a list of Boggs’ academy picks for 1962 after a “box-by-box” search, but that Biden wasn’t on that list. A congressional nomination is needed to attend the academy, but it’s unclear if Boggs nominated candidates each year, Rifenburg said.

Biden tells oil refiners: Produce more gas, fewer profits
The Associated Press ^ | June 15, 2022 | By JOSH BOAK (D-AP)
Posted on 6/15/2022, 8:17:21 AM by Oldeconomybuyer

President Joe Biden on Wednesday called on U.S. oil refiners to produce more gasoline and diesel, saying their profits have tripled during a time of war between Russia and Ukraine as Americans struggle with record high prices at the pump.

“The crunch that families are facing deserves immediate action,” Biden wrote in the draft of a letter to oil refiners obtained by The Associated Press. “Your companies need to work with my Administration to bring forward concrete, near-term solutions that address the crisis.”

As Biden sees it, refineries are capitalizing on the uncertainties caused by “a time of war.” His message that corporate greed is contributing to higher prices has been controversial among many economists, yet the claim may have some resonance with voters.

The letter says the administration is ready to “use all reasonable and appropriate Federal Government tools and emergency authorities to increase refinery capacity and output in the near term, and to ensure that every region of this country is appropriately supplied.” It notes that Biden has already released oil from the U.S. strategic reserve and increased ethanol blending standards, though neither action put a lasting downward pressure on prices.

Biden is asking each company to explain to Granholm any drop in refining capacity since 2020, when the pandemic began. He also wants the companies to provide “any concrete ideas that would address the immediate inventory, price, and refining capacity issues in the coming months -- including transportation measures to get refined product to market.”

Biden's Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm insists high gas prices are 'a very compelling case' to buy an electric car: Official is worth $8million and recently exercised $1.6m stock option in electric car company
Daily Mail ^ | 14 June 2022 | STEPHEN M. LEPORE

Granholm, in a clip surfaced Tuesday, made the case for going electric amid sky high gas prices 'If you filled up your EV [electric vehicle] and you filled up your gas tank with gasoline, you would save $60 per fill-up,' she said Granholm made similar points in a White House press briefing in May 2021. ‘If you drive an electric car, this would not be affecting you,’ she said then Granholm, who is worth $8million according to Forbes Last month she also exercised stock options in Proterra, an electric vehicle company where she served as a director She ended up pocketing $1.6million on the transaction, according to an energy department spokesperson

Biden threatens oil companies with 'emergency powers' if they don't increase supply: Slams their 'historically high profit margins' while families see gas prices hit record highs above $5 per gallon
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 15 2022 | KATELYN CARALLE
Posted on 6/15/2022, 3:42:36 PM by knighthawk

Joe Biden is calling on seven of the top oil companies to do something to help quell surging gas prices after accusing them of intentionally exacerbating the strain on Americans' pocketbooks after the average price per gallon surpassed $5.00.

The president is sending letters Wednesday to Marathon Petroleum Corp., Valero Energy Corp., ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, Chevron, BP, and Shell to demand action on lowering gas prices at the corporate level and account for the surge.

In a letter to Exxon obtained by Axios, Biden wrote that the difference 'of more than 15% at the pump is the result of the historically high profit margins for refining oil into gasoline, diesel and other refined products.'

After Promising To Regulate American Oil Out Of Business, Biden Asking Them To Magically Lower Prices: Is everyone enjoying a small taste of the Green New Deal?
The Federalist ^ | 06/15/2022 | David Harsanyi
Posted on 6/15/2022, 11:34:02 PM by SeekAndFind

Democrats have spent decades warning that the United States must stop using the most efficient and affordable energy sources or it will be consumed by heat waves, fireballs, and cataclysmic weather events. Every flood, every hurricane—every natural event, really—is now blamed on climate change. We have burdened our children with an irrational dread over their future. Then again, many in The Cult of Malthus won’t even have children.

So, why, if we’re on the precipice of this apocalypse, if saving the planet trumps every other concern, is Joe Biden begging everyone to drill? On the days Democrats aren’t blaming Putin for rising gas prices (a cost the president not long ago argued was worth paying for “freedom”), they’re blaming oil companies for profiteering. Wednesday, as the national average hit $5.014 (nearly two dollars higher than last year), Joe Biden sent letters to refining companies threatening to once again abuse his executive powers if they do not immediately alleviate high prices—a political appeal to the imaginary “greedflation.”

Biden, who promised a “100% clean-energy economy” with “net-zero emissions” in a couple of decades, now demands energy companies, already at utilization rates above 90 percent, invest tens of billions more in new drilling infrastructure, when everyone knows that tomorrow, when prices recede, Democrats are going to go right back to passing laws and regulations that undercut their business. Today, Democrats demand CEOs spend more, tomorrow they will promise to “[h]old oil executives accountable” and drag them in front of congressional committees where they will be scolded by economically illiterate windbags.

That future is baked into today’s price. Because Democrats’ energy policy is a schizophrenic mess, oscillating from puerile to pernicious. You can’t spend decades working to undercut production and campaign on the promise of destroying an industry and then demand it turn on a dime when it’s politically convenient.

Democrats will argue that this is a unique emergency as prices have spiked to historic highs. Guess what? Energy prices will always be at historic highs when you create shortages, which is exactly what progressives have been advocating we do for years. Virtually every left-wing energy proposal in the past two decades, if not longer, has been designed to create false scarcity, either through fabricated marketplaces, stringent regulations, or by putting caps on production. This is what they wanted.

“No more drilling on federal lands” Biden promised during the 2020 presidential campaign. “No more drilling, including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period, ends, number one.” Not number two. Number one. “No more — no new fracking,” the president also said. Blue states across the country have either banned fracking, or are in the process of banning fracking projects.

And, on the first day of his presidency, Biden rejoined the Paris agreement—an accord he is now working hard to break—revoking permits for Keystone XL, a 1,700-mile pipeline that was going to carry approximately 800,000 barrels of oil a day into the United States (also baked into the price). Biden signed a slew of executive orders prioritizing climate change over energy production, halting oil and natural gas leases on all public lands. When a court blocked him, the Biden administration appealed the decision, even as indications of an energy spike were clear.

Rather than threatening price controls, the president should just rescind all his executive orders.

Of course, until some new technology is devised, implementing any policy that resembles the Green New Deal—the plan Biden says is the “framework” for his own efforts on “environmental justice”—would hold approximately the same economic consequences as having coronavirus economic shutdowns for 30 years straight. That’s merely if we followed the IPCC recommendations on carbon emissions. Last year, with inflation already looming, Biden preached that it was a “moral imperative” to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent from 2005 levels by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050. That’s a policy that will have us fondly reminiscing about $5.00 a gallon.

Energy policy can’t be capriciously implemented and then abandoned every time the Democrats’ poll numbers flail. This is just a little taste of the Green New Deal. There is no sentient being that could accept the notion that Democrats are the party that is in favor of abundant fossil fuels. Hopefully the price – even in small measure — for their green policies is so politically severe that they will moderate. Because we all have unattainable dreams.

The Biden Recession Has Arrived
https://issuesinsights.com ^ | June 16, 2022 | — Written by the I&I Editorial Board
Posted on 6/16/2022, 9:54:13 AM

No doubt about it, the economic news in recent weeks has been relentlessly negative. Indicator after indicator shows activity plunging sharply in key parts of the economy. Now, a widely followed indicator signals economic growth is likely to be zero in the current quarter, after the first quarter’s “unexpected” 1.4% decline.

Buckle up, looks like we’re entering a recession, folks.

Let’s review just some of the economic carnage of recent days:

The Fed raised interest rates by 3/4 of a percentage point on Wednesday, the largest hike since 1994, as the central bank desperately tries to rein in our near-9% inflation rate. Mortgage rates surged above 6%, the highest since 2008, a level that is likely to tank home sales and hit consumers’ pocketbooks hard as adjustable-rate mortgages move upward along with interest rates.

Producer prices soared at a 10.8% rate in May, an ominous sign of higher inflation for consumers down the road. That followed last week’s 8.6% yearly CPI number, the highest since 1981.

Retail sales fell 0.3% in May, but jumped 8.1% from a year earlier. A good sign? Hardly. Adjusted for CPI inflation, growth was minus 0.5%.

Small business optimism is its lowest ever, the National Federation of Independent Business said. This is key because small businesses are the No. 1 employer in America, usually first to hire in good times and first to fire in a slump.

“Meanwhile,” AP reports, “the national average price at the pump reached $5.01 per gallon on Tuesday, up from $4.45 a month ago, and surging more than 60% in one year.”

And before Wednesday, when the stock market rallied in relief that the Fed finally recognized the seriousness of the inflation problem, all of the post-Trump stock market gains had been erased.

The Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow indicator, a kind of running tab of GDP data, fell to zero on Wednesday. A rule of thumb says two or more quarters of zero or negative growth equals a recession. By that standard, the Biden recession is here.

To sum it all up, “Between bad fiscal policy, bad monetary policy, and terrible energy policy, this is the witch’s brew that created this record-high inflation,” former Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow told Fox Business’ Stuart Varney on Wednesday.

Joe Biden let it happen by following the awful advice of his White House advisers and the far-left Clown College he calls a Cabinet, possibly the most inept collection of political ideologues in our nation’s history. And that’s saying a lot.

Welcome To Stagflation

Blame Biden for this economic debacle. He rages at others for his problems, but it took him a mere year and a half to dismantle a healthy, growing, noninflationary economy that already had rebounded smartly from the COVID lockdowns and make it a shambles.

You might think such obvious policy failure would lead to a pivot of some sort. But no. Biden has instead hit the hustings to once again rant that none of this is his fault, and to double down on the very policies that created this mess.

On Tuesday, Biden told union members a series of whoppers about the economy, such as, “Since I took office, with your help, families are carrying less debt nationwide. They have more savings nationwide.” Not true.

He also assailed critics for their “lies about reckless spending.” But even his own party’s leading economists don’t agree. They warned him repeatedly about excessive federal expenditures, but he didn’t heed them. He’s even absurdly claimed that Democrats’ rabid spending will “cut” $1.6 trillion from deficits this year, a claim no reputable economist takes seriously.

Oh, and he blamed Republicans, who control nothing in this government, for inflation.

Meanwhile, Biden and his party also continue to bash the oil industry over soaring oil and gas prices, even though Biden and gang have imposed massive new regulations, forced output cutbacks, cancelled new pipeline projects, and threatened additional taxes on oil.

Recall, just two years ago, we were energy independent. Today, even as we grovel before OPEC, the Saudis, Russia and even socialist Venezuela to pump more oil, John Kerry, Biden’s climate czar, says “we absolutely don’t need” to drill for more oil and gas.

Remember that next time you fill up your tank with gas over $5 a gallon. Sure, “Big Oil” always makes a convenient villain. But it’s not to blame.

In March, a sobering study by the San Francisco Fed found most of the U.S.’ inflation problem came from excessive government spending, accompanied by the COVID shutdown of the economy and supply-chain problems ignored by the Biden White House.

Biden and congressional Bidencrats spent $3.6 trillion extra during COVID, and then proposed trillions more to “Build Back Better,” along with hundreds of billions in other new spending “priorities.”

But it’s all phony stimulus. It will line the pockets of Democrats and their allies, but do nothing for the economy. No one spends their way out of a recession; they produce their way out.

“Unfortunately, Biden and some members of Congress seem intent on continuing the spending spree, regardless of how hot the inflationary fires get,” commented budget policy analyst David Ditch, at the Daily Signal. “Many pending pieces of legislation could open the spending spigot even wider.”

With all the spending, and more planned, the national debt now exceeds $30 trillion, up $5 trillion in two years. Federal spending has grown a stunning 53% since 2019, the year before COVID hit.

Democrats still want to spend more. But guess what? The Fed, which printed money promiscuously during the pandemic, is now tightening. And, as interest rates rise, so will government spending on our exploding debt. Expect your taxes to rise, and soon.

A while back, we asked the following question in a headline: “If Biden Intended To Destroy America, What Would He Be Doing Differently?” Others have wondered the same thing. And the answer remains the same: Nothing.

Democratic senators are pushing back on whispers within their party that President Biden, 79, is too old to run for a second term.

Senators say they will strongly support Biden if he opts to run for reelection, despite growing concerns over his low public approval rating and his ability to win a grueling presidential election when he will be 81 years old.

Right?  Democrats should be slapping themselves.  They are now experiencing in real time precisely why they (Democrats) repeatedly rejected Biden when he previously ran for POTUS.  In 2020, they were so afraid of Bernie and hated Trump so much they threw logic out the window.
