When I was 17 I wanted to join the Navy. My mom provided written permission. I have no idea today what my scores were, but they told me they were unusually high which was the reason for an interview. When asked why I wanted to join, I truthfully replied that I wanted to get away from a bad homelife and still be able to continue my education. They told me to come back in a year. I didn't. Then I was called up for the draft at 22 and my wife was six months pregnant. Inconvenient! I got a medical deferment because my doctor verified I was asthmatic.

Getting made fun of, is a sign of affection here. Took me awhile to figure that out. I was always on the defensive too. Then, I realized I was just better than everyone else, and it made me feel better.
