The black vote is up because of the gay marriage ban. I promise you that. You'll see a HUGE difference in 2008 as to which way these folks voted. It won't automatically go to the Democratic party. I guarantee it, bro!

There's a lot of black men wanting to get married? I actually didn't know that... I think Katrina had a lot to do with this year's black vote being up. Blacks overwhelming voted dem. The approval rating of Bush dropped to an all time low among blacks after Katrina... A lot of pissed off people and for good reason. without that black vote being way up, 3 senate seats probably would have gone to the republican. Blacks have been stepped on enough, when they come together and get it done, they deserve recognition...

No, actually, I think you'll see the number of Republican votes go up higher for blacks. Not high, but a trend will show blacks are voting more conservative. Blacks got out to vote AGAINST gay marriage. This isn't a civil rights issue as those who are for gay marriage are trying to depict. And the results will show that.

Oh that may be but that has nothing to do with who they voted for office wise... The exit polling shows they voted overwhelmingly Dem. If they voted against gay marriage, that's what it is. Possibly a big mistake by rove because that wedge issue championed by Rove but there is no reason a person wouldn't walk into the booth and vote for defining marriage between a man and a woman then check mark the dem for office... So in this case, it could be Rove helped get out the black vote... LOL the irony.... In the end, the black vote most definitely did not go up for republicans... It just didn't happen.

Exactly. People vote their pocketbook, or on issues that affect them directly, which is really the point I was making above. People may be overwhelmingly against gay marriage when asked in a poll "Do you support or oppose gay marriage", but very few are actually going to swing their vote over the issue, because it just doesn't effect them.

I think it has something to do with the war. Their farthers probably fought in Viet Nam and talk of bringing back the draft means blacks are the first to go. With a democrate house and senate, I don't think we'll be in Iraq as long as if we had it the other way and a draft was on the back burner.

You had WalMart getting trucks of merchandise to replenish their stores faster than Brownie could pick out a tie to wear to the press conference to announce he was getting a task force together.
I don't think it was a race thing, it was a priority thing based upon income. They would have let a very poor white region suffer just as much.

I think ray is a bit of a red herring here... was he to blame, sure, was he entirely to blame, oh hell no... that being said, his election came up and passed, this is the first election where someone angry over the federal response could vote payback... There is no way some African Americans didn't have that on their mind when they went to the polls...

Yep yep. When Charlie hit a few summers back, we had 3 feet of water in the trailer park. Spent the days playing checkers in the screen room, sitting on tables eating chips drinking warm pepsi. The mossberg leaning on the door indicated "No Vacancy" for wanderers flushed out of their holes. Yet despite 6 days of floodwaters and no police ability, we didn't feel the need to murder each other or loot walmarts.

But it does. Pensions would be transfired to the surviving member. And that could be in the millions. Law suits involving a dead spouse would be paid to the survivor. Divorces cost everybody in the way of court expenses paid for by taxpayers. Marriage is an expensive propersition gay or straight.

Well, I'm black and a Dem, but I voted Rep. I live in MD and I believe Michael Steele was the better choice than Cardin. I also believed that Gov. Erhlich would have been better than Baltimore's Mayor O'Malley. How are you going to have 7 Police Comm. in 7 years (from NYC), and they all have issues. Too bad both lost.

You need to be more vocal man. The old guard is wedded to the Democrat party. Nothing more than blind allegiance. Democrats do very little for the rising black middle class. Or blacks in general for that matter.
I was reading an article the other day that talked about how some black and white members of the local ACLU went nuts when Clarence Thomas was invited to participate in some forum. The two black lawyers on the ACLU board wrote letters calling Thomas an Uncle Tom and even compared him to some pretty bad historical figures. What are they afraid of?

Well, Thomas couldn't even compare to Uncle Tom of Uncle Tom's Cabin, one needs to read the book and see that the phrase "Uncle Tom", needs not to be applied to sellouts. I don't like Clarence because he reminds of the kid in elementary school who snitched on anyone who did anything "against the rules".
Or the slave that told Massa, that there was going to be a uprising. He just has that feeling about him, like a pariah of some sort. Like Armstrong Williams. They are both the polar opposites of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, but just as worse. Neither of them speak for my interests , nor will they ever.

Actually, Uncle Tom wasn't a bad guy at all IMO. Sambo was the real villain in Uncle Tom's Cabin.
I wasn't really endorsing Thomas, just pointing out that some of the older black people almost appear as though they are afraid of black conservatives.
As far as Armstrong Williams goes, I never liked him. Jesse needs to go quietly into that good night and raise his illegitimate child. Al Sharpton needs to go back to being a pimp. :)

It is thought that black folk are liberal due to the 60's civil rights era. Yeah, you know giving black people civil rights is very liberal ::). And those who supported that, were seen as libs.
