George Carlin stopped being entertaining the last 10 years of his life...I think his wife died and every single ounce of what was left of his happiness turned to gall...

I find him brilliant right to the embittered end.  I prefer his later American society oriented bits to his comparatively less biting early material like Hippy Dippy Weather Man and 7 Dirty Words.  I have to respect a comic who manages to offend pretty much everyone sooner or later but still gets the laughs.
