Castro set the tone for pan-american distrust of the US. His efforts to provide for the common good, while implemented with mixed results, were nonetheless noble.

CIA got him in the end then. Glad he didn't just die peacefully of old age....

Bad times for Democrats. First Trump wins the election and now one of their heroes dies.

Fido Castro was a truly great man who only had the best intentions and love for the people of Cuba. He raised them up to an unbelievable standard of living, giving them perhaps the wealthiest lifestyle in the western world. He was a great humanitarian who spread the goodness of communism and socialism to the poor people of central and south America. He was a hero to the people of Venezuela and helped them attain the fantastic standard of living they now enjoy. We are blessed that we had him as long as we did.

"I never asked but I heard you cast your lot along with the poor.
But then I overheard your prayer,
That you be this and nothing more
Than just some grateful faithful woman's favorite singing millionaire,
The patron Saint of envy and the grocer of despair,
Working for the Yankee Dollar.
I know you need your sleep now"

Yeah sure! That's why when Castro was dying a few years ago, they had to fly in a doctor from Spain, to save his worthless life!

We've heard that about Canada, too:
http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/calgary/Long+Canadian+wait+times+send+patients+south+surgery+Video/9702357/story.html
Tampa, Fla. — Already a destination for its beaches, palm trees and Disney parks, Florida can now add medical tourism to its list of attractions as more and more Canadians visit for surgery.
Long wait times are increasingly driving patients south, including two Albertans who underwent surgery on the same day last month, and commiserated about feeling abandoned by an ailing system back home.

Can you believe this? I'd expect this from the President of Venezuela. Canada is done.
November 26, 2016
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro:
“It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President.
“Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.
“While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for “el Comandante”.
“I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba.
“On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

a perfect toast to a long awaited death! I wish I could join you Singh... but unfortunately I don't/can't drink anymore lol...
Although I'm not Cuban for some reason I've been infatuated with Cuba and its history for many many years... probably since my Jr HS days.
It's always been a dream of mine to one day visit that beautiful country and now with many sanctions being lifted that dream just may come to fruition.

Cuba is a one-party state, viz. a socialist state.

Trump’s Brutally Honest Castro Statement Proves He’s No Obama
(http://thehill.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumb_small_article/public/blogs/trumpcastro_112616getty.jpg?itok=jq2AkPOg)
President-elect Donald Trump called now deceased former Cuban president Fidel Castro a “brutal dictator” whose legacy represents decades of death and oppression.
That’s a stark contrast from President Barack Obama’s statement on the passing of the long-time Cuban overlord.
“Today, the world marks the passing of a brutal dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades,” Trump said in a statement released on the news of Castro’s death Saturday.
“Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights,” Trump said.
“While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve,” Trump said.
“Though the tragedies, deaths and pain caused by Fidel Castro cannot be erased, our administration will do all it can to ensure the Cuban people can finally begin their journey toward prosperity and liberty,” Trump said. “I join the many Cuban Americans who supported me so greatly in the presidential campaign, including the Brigade 2506 Veterans Association that endorsed me, with the hope of one day soon seeing a free Cuba.”
Trump won overwhelming support from Cuban-Americans during the 2016 election for his opposition to Obama’s normalization of relations with the Castro regime.
Obama’s statement on Castro’s passing was one of sorrow and arguably obscured Castro’s record of oppression and murder.
“At this time of Fidel Castro’s passing, we extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people. We know that this moment fills Cubans – in Cuba and in the United States – with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation,” Obama said in a statement put out by the White House.
“History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him,” Obama said.
“For nearly six decades, the relationship between the United States and Cuba was marked by discord and profound political disagreements,” he said. “During my presidency, we have worked hard to put the past behind us, pursuing a future in which the relationship between our two countries is defined not by our differences but by the many things that we share as neighbors and friends – bonds of family, culture, commerce, and common humanity. This engagement includes the contributions of Cuban Americans, who have done so much for our country and who care deeply about their loved ones in Cuba.”
Castro passed away at the age of 90 after years of being in poor health. Castro came to power in 1959 as part of a communist revolution and only stepped aside in 2006. Castro’s brother Raul now runs things in Cuba.
Castro is blamed for killing thousands of people during his rise to power in the late 1950s. The Cuba Archive Project documented more than 9,200 people who were killed by the Castro regime, while the group’s president says as many as 78,000 were killed trying to flee Castro’s communism.

When all the useful, productive White people, who made Cuba prosperous, were either killed off, or forced to flee their country, Cuba became an economic back water, wherein they couldn't even raise enough food to feed their people, in one of the most fertile places on Earth, thanks to asinine socialist incompetence. Nothing happened under Castro's bloody rule, to make Cuba better.

How many refugees from the middle east did Cuba take in? How many African savages did Cuba take in? How many Mexican pieces of shit wanted to go to Cuba? Fidel created a pigsty in Cuba. I'm glad he's dead. He should've died years ago! Hopefully his piece of shit brother will die soon too!

I see a very strained relationship with Canada going forward. I mentioned in another thread how the election opened my eyes to how far Canada has gone down the Socialist rathole. Now, everyone sees it.
Unlike the outgoing, the incoming administration isn't interested in hearing about the "greatness"'of Castro.

Let us not forget from where this all stems from. A quote from JFK
"I believe that there is no country in the world including any and all the countries under colonial domination, where economic colonization, humiliation and exploitation were worse than in Cuba, in part owing to my country's policies during the Batista regime. I approved the proclamation which Fidel Castro made in the Sierra Maestra, when he justifiably called for justice and especially yearned to rid Cuba of corruption. I will even go further: to some extent it is as though Batista was the incarnation of a number of sins on the part of the United States. Now we shall have to pay for those sins. In the matter of the Batista regime, I am in agreement with the first Cuban revolutionaries. That is perfectly clear."—U.S. President John F. Kennedy, interview with Jean Daniel, 24 October 1963
