Title: Dear everyone, a note about the art of trolling ..
Post by: OneMoreRep on August 28, 2013, 07:28:30 AM
It was brought to my attention this morning, as I sipped on my cappuccino that some of you felt it was a little unfair to not allow "everyone" to bother or troll ukjeff as he spoke about his particular dietary methods.

That said, I will post a simple exchange I had with another member, keeping his identity undisclosed. You (the GetBig family) can decide whether the topic discussed makes sense, after all, we moderators are here to serve you as a whole.

********

whats with the no one can say anything negative to uk jeff in his thread shit

are you going to start heavily moderating the board now

the lack of mod interference is what makes get big what it is

You need to calm down. You can't just take every little thing you read to heart and then go on an avalanche of emotions.

There was a thread made about Jeff whereby many people complained regarding his trolling. Some people suggested, very aggressively might I add, that he should be banned.

Here's the thread, I'm sure you remember it, as you participated in it:
http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=491655.0 (http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=491655.0)

Main Issue: Jeff trolls incessantly and because of which derails threads in the process, hence why he should be banned.

Problem with the issue brought up: Trolling is not against forum rules.

That said, it was made pretty clear yesterday (by me), that if a person like no one, Galeniko or OneTimeHard creates a thread chronicling their diet or contest prep, that it would remain centered around the subject at hand, as to not lose the point of the thread to begin with. In order for the thread to remain centered around the subject at hand, trolling material from Jeff, Yagr, the organization or whomever decides to act like an idiot will be removed. Why would we remove it? Simple, because YOU guys (not us mods on the G&O) want it done that way, as evidenced by:

Ron, is it not enough that someone says they will keep trolling around the clock and ruin every single thread until they get banned, is that not enough and he is actually doing it as well.  Those were the exact words used, go check for yourself.

There are a lot of people that come on here Ron for specific DIETING knowledge, getbig has become a board were everyone comes to for dieting advise, I know this because so many have joined on account of Gal, no one and myself for this reason alone.

Now information can not be found cause of jeff cluttering the boards with his round the clock feuds and deliberately doing so, so no body can access our dieting strategies and protocols.

I am not one to complain but getbig has it's time to be entertainment and funny moments (there are lots of thread for that) but it also has a time were knowledge and experience is shared among us serious lifters, this is our home, don't allow a jerk to ruin for us.

So, in light of what the greater masses want, we have determined (Grant, Princess and I) that things need to be fair and balanced. If Jeff is no longer allowed to destroy quality threads (Threads about serious aspects of bodybuilding) with his incessant trolling, then likewise, you guys aren't able to destroy his threads that are also serious in nature.

In other words, you guys can't expect us to heavily moderate Jeff when he trolls you guys to death and then not expect us to moderate you guys when you troll him to death. One thing Jeff is not, is dumb. He knows how to develop a very coherent argument and can debate the vast majority here ad nauseum. So, in order to defeat a seasoned troll, you need to apply the rules in a consistent fashion that doesn't allow for a loophole to be found in our justification of rule employment.

Does this mean that no trolling is allowed on the forum? Absolutely not. Part of a huge cornerstone of GetBig's greatness circles around the popular trolling seen on this forum. We enjoy trolling here, because it's funny, leads to great relationships being formed and adds an element of chaos that is often very entertaining.

So, if there are random threads revolving around gossip, rumors or just different variety that doesn't qualify as high-quality material, then the trolling is just fine. That said, NOT every thread here can revolve around the personal feuds between Jeff and everyone else. This isn't the UkJeff show and by allowing yourselves to get sucked into his trolling methods, you are ALL proving that he has gotten the better of you.

So, to bring this debate to a close, realize that in order for the pendulum to swing evenly, we moderators have to be fair in protecting Jeff's rights, just as we protect your rights.

Does this sound fair enough to everyone?

Title: Re: Dear everyone, a note about the art of trolling ..

No, its not "fair".

Its not a black/white situation. We excpect the mods to have at least some discretion to know when the trolling is ok or when it is specifically trying to destroy something good on the board.

Otherwise why do we need "mods" here anyways?

You don't have to post here long to realize that ukjeff is a special kind of miserable human being.
That's not trolling, there's hate and jealousy coming through loud and clear in his posting.
I'm sure he's real popular with his co-workers.

neither you nor anyone else on getbig understand trolls.  Ignore the fuckers and they go away.  But starting threads about them just adds fuel to their fire.  Trolls are attention whores and thrive on people getting mad and upset and starting threads about them.  Ignore the shit stains and they eventually wash themselves out.

Is there a way to summuraize?

Sure.

If you don't want ukjeff to derail threads by trolling incessantly, then you should also extend the same courtesy to him and, in turn, not derail his serious threads.

How does this work? Simple, if he starts to derail serious threads by reeling you guys into a personal feud of sorts, his posts will get removed. Likewise, if you guys start to derail his serious threads, your posts will be removed.

On the other hand, if the thread on hand is not of "serious" nature (which the vast majority of our threads are not) trolling can continue, as it will serve as one of the main elements of entertainment and is not against the rules.

That's exactly the purpose of what I posted.

We the moderators have the discretion of knowing when a thread is a "good" thread with material that helps the members, as is the case with Gal & no one's diet threads or OTH 60-day diet threads.

What happened to OTH's 60-day diet thread? It got derailed due to incessant trolling that sparked personal feuds to once again surface.

Oh I see, yes I been noticing this going on. The other day in fact someone posted a bunch of unrelated spam and pictures in several threads, that had nothing to do with topic. I found this disturbing.

I have decided to show the forum that I am not really some kind of hate riddled deranged psychopath.  :o
I can actually contribute and add value.

You are now getting the real me as opposed to the character I was playing in the past.

The only way to get rid of trolls is to completely ignore their every post even the serious ones.  That's why i don't even respond to 1/4 of the people on this site.  Once they realize they aren't "trolling" anyone they will stop or go away.  The biggest problem with Getbig is everyone on here LOVES to argue and get their point across, then along comes a troll who drives them up the wall and it turns into what we have today; a nonstop battle of complete nonsense.  One guy is trolling and laughing behind his keyboard and the other is screaming mad about to break his.

It's a vicious cycle. ;D

Exactly!

If someone trolls you in a thread and EVERYONE ignores his/her post, that post in turn becomes null and void, as it was not engaged in any fashion. It starts to appear like that of noise after a while..

Just to set the story straight: Dropping Plates has launched bizarre attacks like the one above, accusing guys of being pedophiles with no cause. He evidently did it to an Organization member and now demands he not be treated has he treats others. In other words, he can dish it out, but he can't take it. He becomes noticeably defensive when his pedophelia issues are pointed out.

Asif, why don't you post under your average rim rat name?

For the record, saying "bizarre attacks" is pretty gay (yes understatement)

I have a slightly different opinion on the matter (which I should've voiced via PM before this thread was made).  Yes, total derailment can be a PITA on what would otherwise be a valuable discussion.  If someone wants to have a truly, non-trolled valid discussion, then they should post their thread on the appropriate board, NOT the G&O.  If you're going to post it on the G&O, then a certain amount of levity is expected.  Don't expect it to be all serious.

Since some lengthy threads have been modified to remain within their theme and not moved, it's only "fair" I guess to let this one fly, HOWEVER, I still feel heavy-handed modding should not be done.  Of course, vicious attacks and other major violations will be handled accordingly.

There's always whiney complaints that the G&O gets the most traffic, blah, blah blah... as if you can't be troubled to scroll down a bit.  If you can be bothered to scroll down to look at porn and nudity, then you can be bothered to visit the appropriate board for other subjects.

A good troll keeps you guessing and entertained and can spice up a board.

There are specific boards where trolling is not allowed....The Positive Board, The Training Board, the nutrition board....and on. If OTH or anyone else wants a troll free thread I suggest posting on one of those boards and not the G&O. :)
Fuck me sideways........... :o You have my vote for G&O mod.

Really? I like to let my threads/views speak for themselves. Clearly, I am a once in a generation forum talent.

Sure......join a thread on page 72 and claim you had something to do with it.   ::)

I hope there is karma in this world and you do end up dying in a fiery auto wreck.

You must have been home schooled.

You must have been sexually abused as a child.

No other plausible explanation.
