Lyrics:
Can you feel it
Nothin can save ya
For this is the seaon of catchin the vpors
And since I got time, what Im gonna do
Is tell ya how to spread it throughout my crew
Wel you all know tj swan who sang on my records
Made the music, nobody beats the biz
Well, check it
Back in the days before this began
He usually tried to talk to this girl name fran
The type of female with fly gucci wear
With big trunk jewelry and extensions in her hair
When swan tried to kick it, she always fessed
Talkin about black, please, you work for ups
Since he wasnt no type of big drug dealer
My man tj swan didnt appeal to her
But now he trucks gold and wears fly valley boots
Rough leather fashions and tough silk suits
Now she stop frontin an wants to speak
And be comin to all the shows
Every single weekend
To get his beeper number, shed be beggin please
Dyin for the day to get skeezed
She caught the vapors (4x)
I got another partner thats calm and plain
He goes by the name of the big daddy kane
A mellow type of fellow thats laid back
Back in the days, he was nothin like that
I remember when he used to fight every day
What grown-ups would tell him he would never obey
He wore his pants hangin down and his sneakers untied
And a rasta-type kango tilted to the side
Around his neighborhood, people treated him bad
And said he was the worst thing his moms ever had
They said that he will grow up to be nothin but a hoodlum
Or either injail or someone would shoot him
But now hes grown up, to their surprise
Big daddy got a hit record sellin worldwide
Now the same people that didnt like him as a child be sayin
Can I borrow a dollar, ooh, youre a star now
They caught the vapors (4x)
Now I got a cousin by the name of von lee
Better known to yall as cutmaster cool v
He cuts scratch, transform with finesse
...(cuts and scratches)...and all that mess
Well I remember when he first started to rock
And tried to get his job in a record shop
He was in it to win it but the boss fronted
Said, sorry mr. lee, but theres no help wanted
Now my cousin von still tried on and on and on
til the like break of dawn
To put this j-o-b in effect
But theyd look right past him and be like next
Now for the year of 88
Cool v is makin dollars so my cousins like straight
He walks into the same record shop as before
And the bossll be like, von, welcome to my store
Offerin him a job but naw, he dont want it
Damn it feels goo to see people up on it
cause I remember when at first they wasnt
Now guess what they caught from my cousin
The vapors
They caught the vapors (4x)
Last subject of the story is about biz mark
I had to work for mine to put your body in park
When I was a teenager, I wanted to be down
With a lot of m.c.-deejayin crews in town
So in school on nobel street, I say can I be down, champ
They said no and treated me like a wet food stamp
After gettin rejected, I was very depressed
Sat and wrote some def doo-doo rhymes at my rest
When I used to come to parties theyd make me pay
Id have to beg to get on the mike and rap that day
I was never into girls, I was just into my music
They acted like I wanted to keep it
Instead of tryin to use it
But now things switched without belief
Yo, biz, do you remember me from nober street, chief?
We used to be down back in the days
It happens all the time and never ceases to amaze
They caught the vapors (4x)

Self Destruction
The Stop the Violence Movement was formed by rapper KRS-One.
During a Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy concert, a young fan was killed in a fight; galvanized into action, KRS-One founded the Stop the Violence Movement. Comprised of some of the biggest stars in contemporary East Coast hip-hop, the movement released a single ('Self Destruction') in 1989 with all proceeds going to the National Urban League.

INTRO:Q-tip:
DO I love you?
Do I lust for you?
Am I a sinner because I do the two?
Can you let me know? right now please? bonita applebum
CHORUS:
Bonita Applebum you got to put me on
Bonita Applebum I said you got to put me on
Bonita Applebum you got to put me on
Bonita Applebum i said you go to put me on
Bonita Applebum you got to put me on
Bonita Applebum i said you got to put me on
Bonita Applebum you got to put me on
Bonita,Bonita,Bonita
VERSE:(a pause in beginning of verse)
Hey bonita, glad to meet cha
for the cunnin' stunning you, miss I must beseech cha
Hey, being with you is a top priority
Ain't no need to question the authority
Chairman of the board, the chief of affections
You got minds that sway in your direction
Hey, you're like a hip-hop song you know
Bonita applebum you got to put me on
CHORUS:
VERSE:(a pause in beginning of verse)
38-24-37, you and me hon, we're a match made in heaven
I like to kiss you where some brothas won't
I like to tell you things some brothas don't
If only you can see through your elaborate eyes
Only you and me hon, the love never dies
Satisfaction, I have the right tactics
And if you need them I got crazy prophylactics
So far I hope you like rap songs
Bonita applebum you got to put me on
CHORUS:
My mother went away for a month-long trip
Her and some friends on an ocean-liner ship
She made a big mistake by leaving me home
I had to roam so I picked up the phone
Dialed Ali up to see what was going down
Told him I pick him up so we could drive around
Took the Dodge Dart, a '74
My mother left a yard but I needed one more
Shaheed had me covered with a hundred greenbacks
So we left Brooklyn and we made big tracks
drove down the Belt, got on the Conduit
Came to a toll, we paid and went through it
Had no destination, we was on a quest
Ali laid in the back so he could get rest
Drove down the road for two-days-and-a-half
The sun had just risen on a dusty path
Just then a figure had caught my eye
A man with a sombrero who was four feet high
I pulled over to ask were we was at
His index finger he tipped up his hat
"El Segundo," he said, "my name is Pedro
If you need directions, I'll tell you pronto"
Needed civilization, some sort of reservation
He said a mile south, there's a fast food station
Thanks, senor, as I start up the motor
Ali said, "Damn, Tip, why you drive so far for?"
(Well describe to me what the wallet looks like)
Anyway a gas station we passed
We got gas and went on to get grub
It was a nice little pub in the middle of nowhere
Anywhere would have been better
I ordered enchiladas and I ate 'em
Ali had the fruit punch
When we finished we thought for ways to get back
I had a hunch
Ali said, "Pay for lunch"
So I did it
Pulled out the wallet and I saw this wicked beautiful lady
She was a waitress there
Put the wallet down and stared and stared
To put me back into reality, here's Shaheed:
"Yo, Tip, man, you got what you need?"
I checked for keys and started to step
What do you know, my wallet I forget
Yo, it was a brown wallet, it had props numbers
Had my jimmy hats I got to get it man
Lord, have mercy
The heat got hotter, Ali stars to curse me
I fell bad but he makes me feel bad-er
Chit-chit-chatter, car stars to scatter
Breaking on out, we was Northeast bound
Jettin' on down at the speed of sound
Three days coming and three more going
We get back and there was no slack
490 Madison, we're here, Sha
He said, "All right, Tip, see you tomorrow"
Thinking about the past week, the last week
Hands go in my pocket, I can't speak
Hopped in the car and torpe'ed to the shack
Of Shaheed, "We gotta go back" when he said
"Why?" I said, "We gotta go
'Cause I left my wallet in El Segundo"
Yeah, I left my wallet in El Segundo
Left my wallet in El Segundo
Left my wallet in El Segundo
I gotta get, I got-got ta get it

Yeah 80's were the best decade in memory by far. I tell these young dudes at the gym at good it was back then - racing the stangs and camaros, no worries, we kicked ass, had a POTUS who kicked ass, nation was strong and confident, explosion of culture everywhere in movies, music, etc.
-
Rocky 3 and 4 were huge at the time.
Yes, they were. Saw them on their, respective, opening nights. Are they 'classic' movies? No. They are movies we repeatedly watch, because we recognize, and romanticize all the 80's cliches, and cheer/mimic all the cheezy lines - just like Conan, Predator, Die Hard.
Stop romanticizing entertainment as art. There is a lot of great stuff from the the 80's - stop bottom feeding.
-
Fav. Priest tune. My current band plays this one at rehearsals as well as Diamonds and Rust, Metal Gods, Breaking, Victim and Painkiller.
