Santos announces he will not seek re-election. Only last week he was announcing that he would, indeed, seek re-election. He claims he wants to protect his family.
Obviously, the multiple charges, aides pleading guilty, spending his campaign funds illegally on OnlyFans and Botox, compulsively lying, and being the subject of an expulsion vote wasn't enough for him think twice.
This sucks. We The People deserve to see him run and lose horrendously to someone else.
Hmmm. Santos was charged in Brazil in 2011 for using two stolen checks to make purchases. His response was to flee the country. Recently he agreed to pay $5,000 in exchange for the case the case against him being dropped. If he paid the $5,000 (which he may not have… considering his record), he is free to return to Brazil.
He is now facing multiple charges in the U.S. which could result in hefty fines or even prison time. It would not surprise me if he defected from the U.S, returning to Brazil to avoid ‘facing the music’ here.
For some reason, I do not like or trust this fellow. But should he go back to Brazil, then I say, “good riddance.’
The Brazilian constitution prohibits the extradition of nationals. However, according to Brazilian law, George may not qualify as a national because he was born in Jacksonville Hights, NY, although to Brazilian parents.
Even more complicated is if either or both of his parents were in the service of the Brazilian government when he was born, or he is registered with the Brazilian consular office, and lastly, he moves to Brazil and confirms his nationality before a federal judge.
Confirming your nationality there requires you to have lived there for four years. I think he is one year shy. The applicant needs to be able to communicate in Portuguese, and he has no prior criminal record either in Brazil or perhaps in the U.S.
If he has notable "relevant services" to the country such as "professional, scientific, or "artistic ability" (wasn't he once a drag queen?), the residency requirement is reduced to 2 years. If he married a Brazilian when he lived there, the requirement reduces to 1 year.
Honestly, George defecting seems like a real possibility to me.
