the cheater only ref'd game 3 in that series - however, the recap of that game shows that the officiating (they allowed a "dirty" or rough style of play in game 3, which obviously favored the bigger and stronger Spurs over a quicker phoenix)

So it's a legit concern. Winner of game 3 (when series tied 1-1) usually takes the whole series, and the Spurs did. Had the refs called this one fairly, you wouldn't have had guys getting stitches, and sun would have had a better chance of winning.
interesting theory, alG. I'm sure a lot of people are thinking about this game right now.

stern's trying to make it seem like it was isolated instances of cheating, and that Donaghy was acting alone, but this is going to be a huge setback for NBA credibility.

stern's a snake. his first instinct was to release that press statement blaming ONE referee and point out there was no collusion. I bet the feds would LOVE to interview the other 2 folks from the game 3 ref team. Chances are, Donagy wasn't able to make that decision to 'let them play' (rough) on his own.

no kidding. stern is a phony prick, sure. didnt want to offend people with thuggish players. doesn't matter when they're on the court - and the thugs are the ones playing honestly, and the clean cut white guys are cheating.

I mean I was last interested when the king and lakers were duking it out in the western conference finals and that was like 5 years a ago.

But yeah, seems like he's focused on off-court stuff to the detriment of on-court issues.

I remember that - stats showed racial bias, proved it. Instead of countering it or trying to challenge the validity of their findings, he just dismissed it.
Big problem for the NBA. Perhaps the team owners will show Stern the door if and when tix sales and tv revenue continue dropping.

1. the refs dont decide who gets suspended, hope this heps
2. we could just as easily point out that the spurs got screwed by the refs in the '06 series against dallas, we should have won the title last year too but got worked over by the refs/league
3. so even if we (for no good reason) give the suns game 5 if amare played, THEN WHY DID THEY STILL LOSE GAMES ONE, THREE, AND SIX WITH THEIR FULL TEAM? ANSWER THAT ONE BITCHES
hahaha its not like it went down to the wire, it didnt even go to 7 games, the spurs were CLEARLY the better team as recognized by everyone who knows anything about basketball. ive never seen such bitterness, the suns suck and will NEVER win a title doing what they are doing, Utah would have beat them had they got past the spurs anyway. the spurs whipped the same phoenix team hard in '05 as well, soundly beat them last year, and will butcher their whiney pansy asses next year as well ;D keep clenching your teeth and stamping your feet real hard looking for excuses, deep down you all know the spurs are the best team
