Training hard and training heavy are two differenct properties. A powerlifter with a 600 lbs bench won't be training hard if he benches 300 lbs for 10, but for a much weaker man, doing even 6 reps with that weight will be exerting a much more brutal effort than it is for the powerlifter to do that weight for 10.

Dorian trained harder because he often used weights that pushed the limits of his strengh, and he took sets to failure. Dorian would do usually 6 to 8 reps per set, and he would choose weights that were heavy enough for him to fail after that number of reps.

Ronnie, conversely, would use weights far beneath his strengh, evident by the fact that he usually did between 12 and 15 reps per set, and even by the 15th reps he didn't achieve failure yet. This suggests that he usually trained with weights that were 50% of his 1RM, while Dorian trained with weights that were 80% of his 1RM. The only time when Ronnie trained harder than Dorian was when he did those insane doubles on the deadlift with 805 lbs or squated 800 lbs for a double. The problem is that this is not how Ronnie often trained. Dorian definitely trained harder, but the title of strongest Mr.Olympia definitely goes to Ronnie.

exactly

dorian trained harder! no doubt.

Repeating the same post ad nauseum only shows two things:

  1. You are a troll.

  2. You are unable to formulate an argument for why you believe something.

Is it harder to bench 500 lbs. or 400 lbs.?

Ronnie could bench 500 for REPS.

Ronnie could bench 500 for REPS.

But Dorian used much stricter form and lowered the bar to his chest, while Ronnie cheated and only used partial reps. Big difference.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. I can see that the Ronnie dick suckers are still getting owned ad infinitum in thread after thread. :P

Ronnie was better on the more basic lifts . Dorian was more mahcine like overall.
Hard to say who really did train "harder", both were classic hardcore , no frills style of trainers.
I have both the Coleman "That's Incredible " and Yates " Blood and Guts training videos.
Ronnies 2 resp with 800 along with all the incredible barbell lifting is incredible.
But for pure training value I would say Yates was more effective.
Most normal guys would get injured or NOT grow as much traing like Ronnie did with the loose form and heavy basic moves. Yates style is something ANYONE could use and make gains.

Arnold had the best overall form however , as seen in Pumping Iron.
Howard

Ronnie would have broke down Leroy and Yates in their primes, was very durable.  Yates was breaking down by his 5th Olympia while Ronnie broke down almost 2-3 yrs after his retirement.

No way those two deal with his lifts 5 weeks out from the Olympia, let alone offseason, just no way.  They would have been tearing shit left and right.

Also, I don't believe Ronnie did ego lifts like Branch and JOJ.  He just did it for the love and brute strength.

Same could be said for Ronnie, who looks like a melted pudding pop now.
