Just got my Hummer H1 back today with a 82mm Garrett turbo upgrade.
That thing is now scary fast. had the decency to stop by Castro Valley's police station to introduce myself. Chances are we'll be running into each other in the next few weeks so might as well ;D.
Oh and note for the e-jealous-douches, this beast runs on biodiesel, so you should feel ashamed.
GodfuckingSPEEEEEEEEEEEE EED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You sound jealous chief. Why imply that it isn't mine?
-
i'll be impressed with a f650.
h1 is like riding in a red radio-flyer wagon with big tires and a little motor.
-
I do love the H1 but I am a DIESEL buff and that 6.5L is a giant turd sorry......you need more than a turbo upgrade to impress me.... first you need bigger injectors , larger fuel pump, larger intercooler , larger intake elbow , better breather then add a billet torque convertor and maybe we can brag about power
-

not hard to get an h1. $19k and it's yours.

Yea agree. That's why I put a Duramax LLY / Alison 1000 in it last year. The Garrett upgrade was just the cherry on top. I wonder how much hp/torque I'm at now but wouldn't surprised if it's in the 550hp/770tq range.

Unless that is the alpha edition with the 6.6 duramax and alli trans

It's not, it's 2004 but the conversion wasn't much of a big deal. My friend owns this shop in SD.

bravo , that's cool as fuck . I wanted to get one and do the full banks upgrade on it but shit happens and had no Income for it .... I might do a 78-79 full size bronco/powerstroke build with front and rear Dana 60

That would kick ass.. get 3/4 ton quarter ton axles if you can. I regret doing it "on the cheap". Should've done more upgrades to the engine before dropping it in; bigger injectors fuel pump etc... upgrading the turbo was a pain..
-
A 600 lb deadlift would be required to drive that thing.

turbo diesel dikes…haven't heard that one in awhile Lol
-
cool
but that vehicle is heavy. 3 tonnes or so right. probably need 700hp to make it a "fun" drive. and by then it's a drivetrainwrecker.
-
HAHAHA, not to bust balls on you man but you are not allowed to use the phrase "scary fast" and H1 in the same sentence.
I`m sure it moves well enough for a 4 ton vehicle but scary fast is reserved for vehicles that do a quarter mile in under 9 seconds.

under 9 seconds?
that's drag cars.
bugatti veyron does 1/4 mile in 9,8 seconds and I'd say that car is scary fast for the average person. Nissan GTR 11 serconds.
-
Under 9 is scary, I had a POS 84 mustang that ran 12`s - it wasn`t scary until you tried to stop.
I guess scary fast is subjective.

God damn, sweet ride. Everybody gets a manly ride but me. I just bought a traverse. My wife told me the selling point was that it seats eight. I'm afraid of what she might be implying.

I bought my wife a Terrain last year, I think it's the GMC equivalent? Anyway she loves it.

Pretty similar vehicles. I actually like the look of the Terrain better. My wife is thirty-three and Im thirty-six. I don't have the time or energy to produce and raise that many kids.

If your goal is speed why even have a diesel? Especially in a 6000lb hummer .. ???

Castro valley is just over the hill from me.
That thing is the epitomie of everything the typical sf er hates, all you need is a "nobama" bumper sticker to inspire some Truely impotent road rants

oh buddy , I wish some could have seen my last truck. It was an 04 F250 4 door 4x4 with 9.5" lift 37" tires I had 600 + HP and 800 or so torque and it was my daily driver I still got 17 mpg I did all the work to it myself except the lift and once I was clocked at 105 slamming down on the breaks coming up behind those new at the time in marked chargers the cops speculate that given the distance and how fast I decelerated I had to be going 120-140 easily . That's an 8000 pound truck

No doubt about it there are ridiculously fast diesels out there, as cool as they are they just have ZERO sex appeal. I own one myself, and would sooner spend the money on something fast and that will get me laid by more than just toothless truck stop honies. Just my opinion though.

Yea common ppl don't get that diesel can be stupid fast. Torque of Peace. 17mpg is pretty decent on 37"s with a massive lift esp on a powerstroke. remember what you rubbers your were running? I'm on my second set of Toyos Open Country M/Ts. No more M/Ts for me. Next set will be an A/T. Nitto Terra Grappler or something with a decent agressive wall but AT threads
-
Toyo mt they made it ride nice , I had Micky atz before the toyos and the difference is worth the price. At the same time I had an f150 with 6" and 35" s and I ran pro comp and they sucked then went to kumho and they wore like shit. My current truck is gmc 1500 and I run nitto trail grapplers on just a 3" lift and the H3 my ole drives is nitto Terra grapplers on 2.5" lift and I'm happy with nitto as well. Toyo and nitto are same company

was that hand calculated? or on the dash?
17 with that big of lift and tires is crazy.
my excursion barely got that at stock height and 2wd.

calculated , that head board thing was off all the time due to the tire diameter difference. If I was going 70 on the dash it was 82 on my recalculated EDGE module on the column.

badass car alex.congrats.
but it cant be that fast even with garret chargers, the thing is a tank on tires, lol.

lol good point. Original design was based on the Isuzu, which btw is an exceptional diesel engine. It's been 13 years since GM's first release of the Duramax. Still one of the most advanced clean diesel engine for heavy duty. Personally I think the cummins has a more solid design and is known to be bulletproof. Actually thinking of putting a bt6 in the red one. Still has that old 6.5 which sucks balls.
-
I've been to the Duramax plant in Moraine Ohio. Was cool to see the engines built.

I test drove a new F350 power stroke the other day. 410hp and 800 pounds of torque stock! Shit was pretty badass. I had a 07 with the 6.0 in it, and had aftermarket turbo, cold air intake, SCT tuner and it was faster stock. I also drove an F150 ecoboost, which was surprisingly fast for a V6, but I think I'm gonna go with the diesel. I'm not a Chevy man, but am going to drive the duramax before I decide. How do you like that engine?

From what I understand, the 6.4 had problems just like the 6.0. Did yours have issues? I blew the head gaskets at 60k miles. I have a few 7.3L in my fleet, and I'll never get rid of them. One of my 6.0L I just had to put about $2k into for random bullshit. I said I'd never buy another ford diesel again, yet here I go. ;D

I had 3 at one point; black wagon, red wagon and red softop. Down to one now but looking for a humvee right now. Arnold's 98 is on the market. Might buy it. But gonna have to get rid of his shitty floor mats lol. Good thing is his runs on veggie oil. My friend did the conversion so it works pretty good but it's a humvee so noisy as shit but would be cool to own one of Arnie's. It's at my shop now.

Hummers are not exactly ideal for off roading, as like you stated they are too wide and get stuck on many trails. Their huge weight is also a problem

I was just gonna post asking a similar question about longevity
I only had mine for 120km and I only modded it at 80km or so. I beat the bark off it. Ran it down the quarter mile many times. Beast got 26or so mph. With a light foot on highway
Prior to modding it I was getting 10mpg on average.
I never had a single issue with the truck or driverrain
Would def buy another
Although I have heard of issues

Here's a video of a real H1 race truck, not that RobbyGordonsuposedtobeah ummer phony rig.
This is really cool.

neither the 6.0 or 6.4 had any major issues that weren't related to maintenance. 6.0 head gaskets blew because of shitty 40 rated cetane fuel. 6.0s don't have waste gates so the EGR valve functions as one. When its gummed up from shitty fuel it wont bleed off boost and allows the excess to go into the cylinders lifting the heads. The biggest issue the 6.4 had was regeneration that owners didn't allow to complete on a regular basis. Want a wicked 6.4 pull the DPF and replace it with a test pipe add a tuner and open the airbox a little. All that being said the 6.7 is a beast! stay away from the 2010s since they had some valve issues and the cranks walked in a few of them. Other than that ive only seen some trans reprograms and some cab and chassis turbo issues which are different from the F series chassis

my 6.4 made so much power when tuned that if I did not lift the throttle the tires would spin all the way to 100kph easily. and this was a 10000lb dually quad cab best truck I ever had.
