Broncos sign Wes Welker to two-year contract

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — John Elway got Peyton Manning a new weapon to help make a push to take control of the AFC.

The Denver Broncos will sign former New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker to a two-year contract, Elway, Denver's executive vice president of football operations, announced Wednesday afternoon.

NFL Network reported the deal is worth $12 million.

Welker leaves New England, where he had five 100-catch seasons in the last six years courtesy of Tom Brady, to join Manning in Denver.

It kills me to say this, but the Broncos are now the AFC favorite. The Pats are going to have to change everything they do on offense (Welker will be able to tip them off on alot of shit. $:-\$ ) I want to know the full story behind this. What was the Patriots best offer? How can you justify not giving Welker (which you franchised at 9+ million last year, and had another 100+ catch season) more than 6 million a year? Only he was/is injury prone, and Welker has been in the offense for years. All around dumb move. I say fuck the Patriots front office for this!

inside receivers are NOT valued in the NFL, Edelman can easily replace Welker.

the Pats are always 1 year ahead of the curve. They will replace him with some cheaper that will approximate his level of production.

The pats wont miss much especially if they can pick up another good slot receiver. They need a good outside receiver as well that can stretch the field but they have more than enough ppl to step up and fill welkers shoes.

I disagree that the broncos are now the AFC favorites, honestly welker doesnt add much more than eric decker brings to the table. Maybe a little more versatility but decker has good hands and runs good routes as well.

This^^^6 million is peanuts. It will take a new receiver coming in 2 years to pick up the Pats play book. And Welker was basically the only guy on offense that could stay healthy minus the ACL one year. Bill B and Welker really must have not liked each other for the Pats to just let him go...The only other thing I can think of is that the Pats believe Tom Brady was a worse QB with Welker on the field. Take away Brady's security blanket and it most likely will force Brady to become better. Seems like a big gamble to me.

I have heard that Brady misses a shitload of reads to other receivers because he's locked in to Welker. CBS who's in tight with Kraft will never say that type of thing during a game. But supposedly during film, everybody sees it.
