In addition to the other great suggestions mentioned:
  • Alfalfa
  • Horsetail
  • Silica

Our skin is the largest organ in our body. It keeps out infection and provides a suitable environment on the inside for all our bodily functions and reactions to take place. Our skin also takes a lot of abuse since it is constantly exposed to various elements in the environment. If you want to protect it, or make it look great, it's not enough to rely solely on creams, lotions & potions that work externally. Feed and nourish your skin from the inside as well with alfalfa, horsetail, and silica.

Alfalfa and horsetail provide nourishment to the skin through things such as silica. This allows the skin to maintain it's shape while still holding on to it's suppleness. 1,2,3,4

An important and often overlooked step in the development and maintenance of great looking skin is exfoliation. Dead cells on the surface, make the skin appear sluggish, and can clog pores leading to acne, uneven tone and complexion. Regular exfoliation (the sloughing off of dead skin cells) is crucial. This allows newer, younger, healthier cells to rise to the surface. These cells also refract light better allowing the skin to take on a healthier glow.

You can use a simple cotton washcloth to wash your face and/or exfoliating mitts for the rest of your body.

Something else that is also quite effective is a dry brush (not a hair brush). Prior to taking a shower, use a dry exfoliating body brush (attainable at most drug stores or The Body Shop), and rapidly rub your skin in small circular motions moving towards your heart. Do this ALL over your body, while your body is still dry... immediately prior to taking your shower. Then take your shower. In addition to sloughing off dead skin cells, it has the added benefit of increasing blood flow and circulation to the skin. You'll be amazed at how your skin feels after your shower, and you'll see the benefits, not just in great looking skin, but also in how your body feels and functions. After washing & rinsing, just when you're about to get out of the shower, turn off all the hot water, leaving only ice cold... but only if you can stand it. You might want to do this gradually.  :P

There are a number of scrubs and exfoliants available over the counter in drug stores and supermarkets etc. designed to be used once or twice a week to give your face a deep penetrating scrub. Most of these preparations contain harsh abrasives like apricot seeds, or crushed walnut husks etc. While they definately do the job of exfoliation, they also cause tremendous harm to your skin as well. These particles have jagged edges that actually rip open and tear your pores. Over time, the clear refined appearance you were hoping to get, is replaced with enlarged pores, scarring, and very damaged skin. It is for this reason I also recommend you never use kleenex, tissues etc, or any paper product on your face. Only cotton, or if need be synthetic fibres, but never kleenex.

Whatever preparation you use, if you choose to use one, make sure that the exfoliating agent is shaped like a bead. These microscopic beads are perfectly rounded and will not tear your pores or damage your skin. I carry one in my lineup of Skincare products called Renewing Facial Scrub that is suitable for use on the face.

Renewing Facial Scrub

It provides this important step in optimal skin care by periodically giving your face a deep, thorough cleaning. Synergy’s Renewing Facial Scrub is the perfect formulation for this delicate task.

This advanced-cleansing product washes away makeup, oil, and pore-blocking impurities without harming sensitive skin. Pure jojoba micro beads soothe and cleanse, releasing your skin’s natural radiance and giving it a luminous glow.

Renewing Facial Scrub uses sulfate-free surfactants to thoroughly clean your skin and leave it refreshed. It won’t dry out delicate skin or damage its ability to keep water in and allergens out. Jojoba micro beads are naturally soft and cushioned. They gently exfoliate the skin, unlike other products with apricot kernels or walnut husks that cause tiny lacerations and irritate the skin’s surface.

Renewing Facial Scrub contains generous amounts of sea-salt minerals, similar to the body’s natural mineral content, to nourish your skin with essential trace elements. Natural botanical extracts such as grape seed, ginseng, and olive leaf keep your complexion moist and supple and provide antioxidant protection. With Renewing Facial Scrub, your skin gets the special treatment it deserves to stay soft, silky, and youthful
