You should correct that you made $60,000 once Obama taxes the fuck out of you.

Good job, but I shudder to think about the capital gains tax hit you'll take unless you have offsetting losses.

I consulted with a tax advisor before I sold it off and he said I should set aside about 20% of it for when our wonderful government comes knocking.

It must be great being rich in the US with so many stupid poor people like u that think capital gains tax is 60%
U guys deserve to be robbed by the rich
Do u idiots even know what was the top income tax rate during communists like nixon. U know when the us gdp was growing three times faster
-
Congratulations on this achievement.

I had almost 1,000 shares of Netflix stock and dumped them all last Thursday when their stock was through the roof. Life is good.
so you sold 1000 shares when the stock was at $137. What did you buy in at?
52 week
52.81 - 177.25
So if you bought at 52.81 then you made a good chunk, unless you bought these years ago.
-
I consulted with a tax advisor before I sold it off and he said I should set aside about 20% of it for when our wonderful government comes knocking.
I watched that "Our America with Lisa Ling" yesterday.
It was about people on welfare and food stamps that are extremely obese in Louisiana. All the public school kids get a free lunch there, but you can buy snacks like chips extra. Medicaid sets these fat people up with counselors, dietitians, etc...
They'll certainly appreciate the $27556.15 donation!
-
I only made $4500 the last month in the stocks. I thought I was doing good. :( $137K is one big hunk of change. That wall street money is evil. Give it back.

This hefty sum can surely buy a lot of rat poison.

Congrats

The government shouldn't be able to fucking tax everything (stocks, 401k, etc...) they should only be able to take Federal and sales tax. They are like a fucking racket. Make mega millions off of the lotto, then turn around and tax almost half of whomever wants a lump sum settlement. Bullshit.
-
They tax everything. I get a 10-12K bonus each year, end up with 6-8K or less..
Sort of sucks knowing it goes to food stamp idiots to buy beer & drugs...
-
Not believable. Go elsewhere.

i am your daddy, fukwitt. come hug me

Well done chum! How long did you hold them for?
I pocketed $40k thanks to the xmas rally, but the government here in AU will tax 45% of that profit as its all treated as income.

Purge, you should invest in Vince Goodrums website, Caliber Fitness.
Last I checked, its 3 cents a share.
With 187K, you can buy 6233333.33333 shares.
-
PURGE, 20% is about right but I've been out of the investment business a good long time and would like to send you the following info and ask you if it proves to be correct.
I'm sure you will have a tax expert do your taxes but if you do your own 1040, make sure you deduct your original investment, plus the other appropriate deductions that the Feds allow.
And ask about the possibility of 'depreciation' which I no longer know nothing about.
In 2008–2012, the tax rate on qualified dividends and long term capital gains is 0% for those in the 10% and 15% income tax brackets.
After 2012, dividends will be taxed at the taxpayer's ordinary income tax rate, regardless of his or her tax bracket.
After 2012, the long-term capital gains tax rate will be 20% (10% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket).
After 2012, the qualified five-year 18% capital gains rate (8% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket) will be reinstated.
-
Congrats.
I knew I fucked up when I didn't buy it at 62 a share. My very conservative father laughed when I said to buy some and told me it was headed for rough times, I told him repeatedly it would bounce back quickly I thought. Now I'm wishing I had sold some other stocks to buy it then.. You win some, you lose some

they dont tax you on everything, only gains.

Netflix sold at $167.70 today
-
How about we hear from those who own AAPL and have been ruined the last few months. I bet a lot of you own it...

I own it. Sold a bunch of it at 480 something in the aftermarket after the earnings call.
i have made several thousand in actual gains -- also left several thousand on the table because i didn't sell at 700. was drinking the 1000 kool-aid i guess.
-
Apple $456.83 today

Screen shot of your brokerage account balance, or your claim is a lie.

I wonder how much Getbig stock would be if it existed.. Holy crap, with all the schmoes, probably a lot. Would go for over $1,000 a share.
-
Apple $456.83 today
$700 was the high. Samsung is eating their lunch. AAPL has nothing new in their product pipeline. All the innovation died when Steve Jobs did. Earnings are on the way down.

I don't know - I suspect that Apple has one more thing up their sleeve; something that they were close to perfecting before Jobs died. I think that they're likely to remain at the top in the near term, even with little innovation, but they will fizzle out unless they can figure out how to capture that je ne sais quoi and the drive for perfection that Steve Jobs had. I doubt it will happen.

good I hope apple dies.

Get a Fidelity Magellan account...Get rid of your boat and use that money to open the account and the money that would go to monthly payments on the boat, put in the account.

Hey congrads bro on your investment! I too have had similar success with my "Vegas" account. I usually scope out Big Pharma penny stocks and buy ones that have promise. Example in early 90's bought 1000 shares of Alexion Pharmaceuticals @$6.78 a share. In 3 years stock had shot up to $149.00 a
share, bailed and re-invested in Imunex that eventually went up to $254.00 a share in one year and then split 3 to 1. Then I bailed and had enough to pay for daughter's education and an apartment in LA for 4 years. Most excellent bro.
Invest only in stock you know something about. Buy penny stock
investing no more than several thousand initially, and then presto!!!

First of all don't give Jobs too much credit. Jobs big idea was ITunes, not the devices. The devices were done by some Brit designer they have.
Secondly, Apple turned the whole cell phone world on its head, everyone uses them as the gold standard.
Basically Apple will be like Sony, will be like Motoralla. Sony was the innovator of the Walk Man, then they didn't create anything new but they still create solid products and are a solid company.
Motorolla was the bomb with the flip phone, the razr flip, they changed the cell phone world but then ran out of steam. Technology goes in cycles. What do you expect Apple to innovate now?
-
I've been putting your mother on the sidewalk for a year now and still haven't made 1g. You're a much better investor than I am.

I couldn't care a less... you're not bragging or making claims.
I used to trade large. I had over a $1 mil margin account. I did fairly well too.
I stopped trading a few years ago because I do not trust the system. One day all that paper/electronic digits is going to evaporate (ie. MF Global). The 2008 crash was nothing compared to what is coming.
-
I have done good with starbucks stock.. just sold some shares at $57 each..
paid $8 for each share in 2008..
just wished I would of bought more :-[
Hoping stock splits again soon...
Will have to pay 15% taxes on the sale >:(

Purge mentioned quite a long time ago, 05' or 06' that he worked for Netflix. It's not uncommon for employees to own a disproportionate amount of stock (in ratio to their other investments) in the company they work for. It is often encouraged, given as a bonus or sold at a slightly discounted rate.

Then he should have sold it before when it was alot higher than now.

I did the same with vanda years ago and use to buy alot of pharma penny stocks and make good money. I gave myself a cap of 1k per penny stock and made good $ but vanda was my big payoff of 8k but I sold too early and should've made 22k+.
It's not as impressive to hear it was employee-owned company stock with the OP. My boss was a multi-millionaire after our merger. I know several P&G employees who also retired as multi-millionaires while working blue collar jobs and hoarding company stock. I also know a guy who was devestated from owning large amounts of Enron (through a Enron-owned company) in his 401k so it's very risky to hold alot of it, no matter what company.
