astounding.
what are we going to do about it?

what are we going to do about it?
1. Watch.
2. Learn.
3. Elect people who vow to either bring back a paper-backup system, or a new system.
it's supply and demand, really. Once 300 million Americans are pissed at the machines, a few of them are going to run on a 'fix the machines so they can't fix elections' platform. Popular demand will call for it, and the supply of people seeking office is never short. plus there are quite a few good apples in govt who would like to make things right, as they love the Constitution.

1. I love my constitutionally guaranteed right to a paper ballot.
2. I hate technology. >:(
3. What would you prefer? a hanging chad or a hacked chad?
-
hanging chads can be recounted. The standards can be fixed for those, pretty easily.
But the hacked votes are impossible to check. Remember that bush beat kerry in OH and FL, despite losing both states on exit polls. This is very very huge. This does not happen in ONE state, much less two. Statistically, nearly impossible. 1 in 50,000. For one state. For two? Come on...
People don't seem to mind that two very highly anomalous events occured which led to Bush winning. What happens if tomorrow, Republicans win both the house and senate, by huge margins, despite every exit polling saying they were destroyed?

Don't you think that given the uncertain state of the world right now the president should suspend mid-term and presidential elections?
how is one to deal w uncertainty abroad if there is uncertainty at home?

Absolutely not. Are you insane? Give unlimited rule who got us into this "uncertain state"?
Tonight I really lost faith in you, AlG. If you're kidding, okay. But if you are in any way telling us that martial law and suspending the Constitution is the solution to war in Iraq...
well, you're lost, my friend. You're lost.

Can we wait until Hilary and Obama steal their way into office before we declare things a dictatorship?

Even you can be reasonable here... Not all ballots where those lousy chad things... Most of the country had easy to read, fill in the circle next to your candidates name completely black style ballots... Were there problem too? yes.... Is it an excuse to stop fighting all the problem... NO... No we're not guaranteed the right to a paper ballot in the constitution, but voting has been and is a valued and important part of our democracy and all these things piss all over everyone who gives two shits about participating by voting for the guy who most closely represents your way of thinking. Look, we went to the moon, we can't figure out a good system for casting our vote ::)

Here we go talking about Chad again. WHO IS CHAD? In 2000 I didn't even know he was a candidate.

These days I don't know... Maybe it's just from growing up in Wyoming, but I about shit my pants hearing several people on this board have a semi positive attitude toward the idea of a North American Union... I would be shot in wyo for trying to make that case... I venture to bet Cheney does not go home and try to justify Bush's support of paving the way for American Sovereignty to go byebye... Pure UnAmerican... So I take it serious when Al/others say stuff like this... :-\

It's incredible that some people will think a stolen election is fine, as long as their party won. Supposed the Dems stole 2008 and abolished elections. Would a Clinton monarchy keep Al G and beach Bum happy?

D'OH! ;D

I can't believe you guys allowed your government to have an electronic ballot...
the parties here in australia distrust each other so much they'd never allow it...
-
4-5 hour wait to vote?
that is insane...
in australia voting is compulsory - you get fined if you don't vote - but if we were made to wait 4-5 hours to vote there would be a riot I shit you not people simply wouldn't stand for it...
-
That's it... I'm taking my steve Irwin collection and moving to Austraila... >:( I'm going to outbid nordic on a property and boot his ass out :D
