Early this morning my stepson, who turns 20 on Sunday and whom I'm close too, called me yesterday saying he was he had stomach cramps and was thowing up blood, I told to immediatly go to the ER, when he got there they ran some tests and said he had some perferations in the lining of his stomach wall and that was causing the bleeding. They sent him home and he texts me about 1:30am and when he went to the bathroom he had blood in is stool, again, I told him to get back the the ER and I would meet him there. He said don't worry about it and he would call me later.
He finally calls me at 5:30am and after extensive tests came to the conclusion that he was on the verge of cirrhosis of the liver along with the stomach bleeding, it gets more nerve racking.........while the were running the tests they find a tumor on his kidney, he went for more tests today and a biopsy is scheduled for later on this weeks, the ultra sound showed that it was a tumor about the size of a gum ball and since the tumor was hard and not soft like a cyst, it's more than likely cancer, needless to say I'm pretty devastated right now, but I'm reaching out to everyone for prayers for him.........even if you don't believe in God or prayers thoughts would be nice.

this is need to know depending....i'm curious myself. It could tell you alot of things as to the cause of the problem. It might not only be a kidney issue.

Thanks for your prayers guys, I really appreciate it. Worst case senerio he will lose his kidney but not his life....but still, of course it's hard, after the tests are confirmed (Dr's prepared him for the probable results) he will be going back to Chicago to the Mayo Clinic for treatment and to be with his dad.

No, I'm still competing and have 10 days from tomorrow and would NEVER use that as an excuse just to back out.

I will say a prayer for you, but maybe this is not the time to think about pre-contest diets and go to the gym but instead time to focus 100% of your energy and thoughts on your son.

Joe, I know this contest means a ton, but a lot can happen in the initial testing over the next few days, complications, etc. IMO, if there's any part of you that considers this a sign, then I'd take off the shirt tonight, take a few hundred pics tonight (so you'll always have them), and put the gym/diet away until things are better. Be there nonstop in the coming days. Family and loved ones mean more than anything else. Just my 2 cents tho. God Bless.

Thanks Ed and Rob, I understand what you guys are saying and he, of course will be a priority 24/7. But we just found out today and even though it's been an emotional day, it's just the beginning with a possible long road ahead, I will keep with the original plan, but if worse comes to worse and he is admitted.....he will come before any show. But as for now, I will do the show.

The number one way to combat cancer is to THINK POSITIVELY. This is a test, Joe; this is simply a test. Keep going, Joe, or you may regret this for the rest of your life.

Well, lets see. Cirrhosis of the liver can lead to portal hypertension, which can cause vessels to rupture (Down your gastric tract) which might might explain the gastric bleeding.
Also, since the liver isn't working as well due to the cirrhosis, see about whether the kid is being placed on any lactulose to stop the potential for Hepatic encephalopathy.
The tumor in the kidney, if as small as you say it is, might be eradicated without any major concern unless it has metastasized.
Either way, stick with him coach and provide him with your support and prayers..

Not to even compare the severity of these 2 situations but to give you hope.
One of my good friends did heavy lifting at his work and had developed
three knots that stuck out on his lower abdomen area which caused him
great pain at times. He went to the dock and he said they were hernias.
I had seen these knots several times because he had them for months but
didn't have money for surgery. He told me an incredible story about him and his wife
having an encounter with God alone at home. He told me he woke up the next morning
and all three of the knots were gone. He had them for months and then one night after
this encounter they were gone. I had to see for myself because it was hard to believe
but I saw the next day with my own eyes. It definately affected my faith.
In an attempt to understand the depression that often accompanies hospitalization, Duke University researchers assessed 1,000 hospital patients from 1987 to 1989; patients who drew on religious practices, including prayer, were found to cope far better than those who didn't.
In the most widely publicized studies of the effect of intercessory prayer, cardiologist Randolph Byrd studied 393 patients admitted to the coronary-care unit at San Francisco General Hospital. Some were prayed for by home-prayer groups, others were not. All the men and women got medical care.
