Title: Who should replace David Letterman?
Post by: 240 is Back on April 04, 2014, 10:15:21 PM
Stephen Colbert may be CBS' top choice to replace David Letterman behind the "Late Show" desk, Mashable reports.

According to the site's sources, Colbert has not had any formal conversations about taking the position, but he is the network's first pick. CBS did not return HuffPost TV's immediate request for comment, but a rep told Mashable that the network had no comment. Colbert's "The Colbert Report" contract with Comedy Central runs through 2014 and Letterman announced that he will retire in 2015, which would make the timing ideal for both hosts.

CBS announced on Thursday that "Colbert Report" host Stephen Colbert will be the next to helm the "Late Show" desk. He'll succeed David Letterman when Letterman retires next year after more than 20 years as the host.

"Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television,” Leslie Moonves,  president and CEO of CBS, said in a statement. “David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.”

Exactly. I bet Jon Stewart threw a fit once again, same he did with Seth McFarlane. Ironically Seth would've been a 100x a better choice but I like Seth and don't care for Lat show so all plays for the best.

Craig Ferguson To Leave THE LATE LATE SHOW at End of 2014

The world of late night is already gearing up for a big shift with the move of Stephen Colbert from Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report to CBS’ The Late Show, succeeding David Letterman. But tonight, Craig Ferguson has announced at the taping of his show that he will be leaving his gig as host of CBS’ The Late Late Show at the end of the year.

Ferguson’s contract was set to expire at the same time as Letterman’s, and Colbert’s hiring reportedly triggered a payment to Ferguson for being passed over, pursuant to his contract. This leaves a vacant spot at 12:35e/p at the outset of 2015. Though Letterman has been vague about the timing of his exit, Ferguson’s plan to leave after the holidays might suggest that the passing of The Late Show torch will happen sooner rather than later in 2015.

Some are speculating that Chelsea Handler might be in the running for this slot, especially due to some photos posted by Handler with some CBS paperwork. The pairing of Handler and Colbert might be an odd one if the speculation proved true, but reports about Handler negotiating with Netflix for a new show might indicate that the speculation is misdirected. Whoever CBS gets to follow Colbert would most likely skew younger, the way Ferguson did when following Letterman. Among those who tested for the slot before Ferguson got it were Michael Ian Black and Aisha Tyler; those two could potentially be in the running again.

Letterman is great. His opening act is usually a bit stale, but his interviews almost always highlight his quick wit and keen observation. He really brings out the best in his guests in a great way.

Colbert... well, he is going to have to get a whole lot less opinionated if he wants long term success, IMO. But, maybe thats just me. I just dont think his whole political activist stance will work well on prime time major network late night night. Far too bias, opinionated, self-righteous, facetious, etc.  But if he can change that, then I feel he can do very well.

Letterman's only selling point is that the big-name celebrities visit his show when they're in New York. Other than that, his act is as stale as those cheesy white socks he wears with his too-short suit trousers. Guy's never been funny. Exception being his interview with Joaquin Phoenix in 2009.

you're not equipped for this, tree-hugger. business is not something you're versed in, just tap out.

I've owned businesses, managed businesses, and invested in businesses. Clippers ain't a public company, I assume sterling owns a controlling share, if not 100%. you can't force a man to sell his business. if he were CEO, the board of directors could vote on terminating him, but he's not elected (hired). it's like forcing Sergey and the other guy to sell Google.com..... you can't do it. Sure, you can fire Eric Schmidt (although I believe he's stepped down already... beside the point), but you can't force Sergey and other guy (the owners) to sell.... the same way you can't force zuckerberg to sell his interest in Facebook..... the same way Annaly Capital can't force me to sell my shares because of something other shareholders see me posting on Getbig. that's not how it works kid.

http://www.nerdist.com/2014/05/the-minority-report-with-larry-wilmore-to-replace-the-colbert-report/

THE MINORITY REPORT WITH LARRY WILMORE to Replace THE COLBERT REPORT

The mystery of who or what would replace The Colbert Report at Comedy Central has officially come to a close. Comedy Central announced yesterday that Larry Wilmore, the Senior Black Correspondent at The Daily Show, has been chosen to take over the coveted 11:30PM slot. The new series, The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore, is set to premiere in January 2015.

According to Comedy Central’s press release, The Minority Report will “…provide a platform to underrepresented voices in comedy and media providing comedy, commentary and a cultural point of view on the news of the day.” Hopefully, this new addition to the late night scene will keep the Internet and its trolling hordes at bay. Wilmore should be familiar to The Daily Show loyal, but you might also recognize him from his Showtime special Race, Religion, and Sex, or that time he gave Michael Scott some diversity training on the U.S. version of The Office.

This news gives us a bit of a clearer picture of what the new late night television landscape will look like in 2015. Though we know Stephen Colbert is set to take over for David Letterman at The Late Show, Letterman has been vague about when exactly that would occur. The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore, on the other hand, has a pretty obvious start date (the beginning of 2015) that gives us a better idea of when The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will debut.

Now that Comedy Central has made their move, it’s time for CBS to choose a replacement for Craig Ferguson at The Late Late Show — and the pressure is on. So far, the #latelatenormnorm movement for Norm MacDonald to replace Ferguson seems to still be going strong.
