I used to do that; use the xbox360 as a MediaCenterExtender; you just need a good wireless bandwidth...

1TB of porn will give you enough to pretty much run shit 2 days straight on a TV facing the neighbour's window and offend some people ;D

lol

When we got all of the good porno channels in college I would open the windows up, turn the stereo way up, blare porn from the stereo, and simply leave for a few hours.  Sounded like chicks were getting absolutely slayed on the couch.

I had k-lite on there and then added the Nvidia, ffdshow,  somewhere along the line the videos wouldn't play full screen anymore.  I had DVB PCI card for satellite and that had certain video codecs.  I'm gonna reinstall one of these days.  Do you have a Satellite card in your PC for Dish Network?  Good stuff if you got enough horsepower.

Nah I've got a 2 regular NTSC TV tuner and a HD over-the-air...  didn't know they made satellite specific cards... gotta look into that.

The Mpeg2 codec from Nvdia works pretty good for both regular and HD...

Here is the link for the cards.  A little intimidating at first but you are IT guy so it should come easy.  Plus if you can do step by step it is no problem.

You can get an idea of what people are using for hardware and such in this thread.

I currently use FTA myself because my Media PC is too slow.  Those can be found here.

Of course I forgot to mention all channels are wide open so they like to call it "testing" rather than signal theft...lol.

So with that card you don't need a setup box?

Nope.  No subscription either.  But they do like to countermeasure at times so I keep a basic subscription in case shit hits the fan and I am down for more than a week.  I will be dropping that though cuz fuck..I can download anything I want through rapidshare anyway if I want to see a show or something so it's no big deal.  Like you, I have tons of divx to keep me entertained if need be.  All PPV and Porn and no charge.  Can't beat it.  It just takes a little reading on those forums and you will be set.  The mods are cool and will help out with anything.

Yes! Cool shit man. What satellite provider do you use?

gotta be dish network.  The encryption for Direct TV has not been hacked.  At least not publicly.  You can also go the route of programming your own Dish Network card and using a dish network receiver.  That is more stable.  I used to do that for Direct TV but they changed encryption.  So then I just bought an FTA unit.  It is for dummy's.  upload a bin file to the reciever and you have it all. But they have been targeting it kinda heavy.  I wish now I would have bought a DISH ROM 103 card with a 301 receiver and an ISO programmer for the access card.

Can you get an HD card as well?

They all can handle HD now I believe.  I have a Twinhan 1020 i think..I know it can handle it but the computer can't. There is Nexus and the WinTV line. Like I said, you gotta be bringing some serious ventilation, Dual CPU, 4 gig ram, kickass SLI video card. Alot of guys say overkill but I use mine to stay online and PVR.  maybe play a game.  That's the plan when I get around to it...lol.

Jason

i don't have Windows on my computer. i have two versions of Linux on instead: one called Ubuntu, another called OpenSUSE. "dual-boot" means when my computer starts up i can pick which one i feel like using. thus i can make it do nifty things like have a cool dock bar at the bottom or the big analog clock, amongst other things.

also nice because both are 100% free.

How is Ubuntu?  Is it pretty stable?  How about compatibility with hardware?  I was looking at it a year or 2 ago.

it's a lot more stable now than it was then. it recognized everything on my notebook immediately. wireless, sound card, graphics, even the media buttons above the keyboard (i have an HP dv6000). i constantly use stuff from the "unstable" and "testing" repos, so a program will go grey once in a while but the OS is surprisingly stable overall. no problems at all.

they have a liveCD for it now, so you can take it for a test run. i have to admit a lot of the fun is just the visual effects.  :D

bah. there's this anti-ubuntu thing that i don't get. it works smoothly, boots up quickly, and if i need to get into the terminal and get my hands dirty i can. if you need all-GUI you can, if you prefer command line you can use that instead.

i think people just hate ubuntu because it's popular and user-friendly. ::)
