Bullshit.  Just a basic scale modification run through an effects pedal, no talent whatsoever. Any high school kid could come up with something similar.

same can be said about a number of classic rifs, smoke on the water or whatever.

must suck to view music from a technical perspective, im glad i dont have to.

How long did it take you to learn the sweet child o' mine solo? took me fucking ages.

forgot to mention two classic solos for ending songs: little wing and purple rain...took me a long time to nail those songs down too.

I learnt most of it in  30minutes until the wah kicked in then I took another two days as it sounded different in my head to how it actually is played.
once I learnt a few guns songs they all came easy, his style is very predictable.

Dyslexic you nailed that solo.

Like I said, I didn't follow the story. If you have a vid or recording it would be cool to listen to.

Who was the band that (supposedly) wrote it? I guess I could Google.

Stairway has to be the most known rock song in the world. I can't imagine anything coming of it in a court of law, but I'd love to hear the original band or.. whatever... whoever.. is sueing..

I'm digging Nick Johnston a lot lately. Love his style.

Listening to him has got me into more hybrid picking.

My outro solo here ain't too shabby hehe

Take this with grain of salt, I'm drummer of 30+ years not guitarist......

I most enjoy listening to the playing of Vai (Passion & Warfare era), Thordendal (Meshuggah, chunky 8 string Ibanez sound) and Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom).  These are a few recording artists who I will go out of my way just to listen to their guitar parts.

I am in no way implying any of them are "greatest ever"....... But to a non guitar playing layperson I enjoy all of them immensely.

I mean no disrespect to the established great players....just curious what the Getbig guitarists' take is on these guys.

Vai's an unarguable freak. Thordendal is indeed an amazing player and musician. And Laiho is something special, no question.

My idol is Frank Gambale. He's just too far out there for me to ever come close...

Wow.

Yup. Randy California is long dead but I think his estate is still pursuing it.

My all time favorite acoustic player,Bert Jansch,  recently passed away.

This is a traditional song with an original arrangement by Bert.

Page used this for TWO songs. The first is obviously, Black Mountainside. If you listen to the last :30 of this clip you can hear "Ramble On."

... and music... is entirely subjective.

You can love it, hate it, be indifferent about it, listen as an afterthought, obsess on it...

It is an amazing thing.

I think life would suck ass without music. Can't even imagine it.

Another, one I like, is "Backwater" by the Meat Puppets. I'm not sure if it's great or not, but it sounds good to me as a music listener.

Thanks for the feedback.

As a drummer I often get many peeps who tell me Tommy Lee or Travis Barker are in their eyes the most amazing players which makes me cringe.  I understand that to a non drummer these guys are probably the be all/end all.

Since I am a non-guitarist I don't have the perspective of being an actual guitarist when judging other players.

Laiho blows my mind in COB, just something about his style of shred that stands out to me.  Thordendal and Vai slay me too for different reasons.

Jerry Lewis was a great drummer... and Buddy Rich was probably the best drummer of all time... let's put it this way: He was what Hendrix is to guitar playing. He started it all...

Well, there is no guitar solo in that song... great tune, but...

I always like some kind of definitive solo, even if it's just a few identifying notes.

Very mellow tune. Could drive to it. Suppose a movie could end to it...

Not really my cup of tea, but hey, I love music. He's good.

I have a friend that host's a radioshow in Denmark. Told him about the 'ghost guitarist' theory about Slash.
And next week I am probably going to be the 'expert' in a bit revolving it. Could use a little helt regarding the theoretical Stuff 😊
