Those 2 tits are both whack jobs, but Alex does raise a good point. Take away our guns, and we're basically at the mercy of those that have guns or can harm us. IE: Our own military, police, criminals, foreign militaries, dangerous animals, etc. We basically become slaves to those who have the upper hand. On most things Alex Jones is a paranoid loon but he does raise some interesting questions. Considering that at the time the constitution was written owning something like a musket would have been equivalent to what the United States military was using, and the intention of the second amendment was to arm citizens in opposition to a tyrannical government, shouldn't militia groups have access to the kind of modern weaponry necessary to successfully defend against an oppressive government? I'm throwing this out there. What do you guys think?

What I am asking is how closing tied together are the concept of a militia and gun ownership? Is it necessary for a gun owner to be in a militia? I have my opinions but I am curious what others think. I'm a gun owner so I assume people will know my position. For clarification, when I say gun ownership I mean weapons which are not used primarily for hunting.

No, it is not necessary for a gun owner to be in a militia. All USA citizens are born with the right to own a gun once they reach a legal age. The 2nd amendment does that give you this right, it guarantees you this right. Just because you own a gun does not mean you have to be part of a militia, or join a militia. Gun ownership can be had for many reasons. IE: self defense, hunting, hobby, investment, collector, etc.

Just messing with you. The thing that strikes me as odd though, is the intensity with which the average American defends the right to own a gun. As someone who has never owned a gun, the gun lovers reaction is the same one you get from a junkie when you take away their drugs. I think the average gun owner needs to ask themselves the REAL reason they like owning guns. The whole paranoid government conspiracy NWO is really quite disturbing. Do you really think if a power forms that can potentially enslave the whole world, some red-necks with guns is going to make a difference?

The real reason I like owning guns? I hunt with them first and foremost. I can use them for self defense, and guns make for a great hobby. you try having a Revolutionary War, a Civil War and various other skirmishes on your soil and see the reasoning. Our history is not pretty. Especially for frontiersmen or during the Wild West, where homicides rates were a lot higher than now.

Look at Iraq and Vietnam. They held off the US Military in a full scale attack for years and were poorly armed unlike the US people. On top of that, governments don't attack their own people with jets, warheads, nukes, to kill them all off (that would be ending their own power).

Hey, I'm all for freedom, personally I would feel like a slave if I needed a firearm to be FREE. Freedom to me is NOT NEEDING TO OWN A GUN. I can remain somewhat detached, I live in a Country where their is no GUN CULTURE and very strict Gun Control. It is terribly SAD to hear of children as young as 5 being murdered at school though, and it does make one wonder what's the point of such a Gun Culture if that's the price you have to pay, it could be argued that it would be better to be a NWO lackey than to attend the funeral of your own murdered children. If we had a similar problem here in Australia, with children not safe to go to school, and that the school-yards had become like highly secured prisons, I would consider this a failed country. But, like you said, it's your country, and Horses for courses and all that.

The whole situation sounds like people are just afraid and get some type of false sense of security from owning a gun. As stated in the video, this country was bred from violence. Look at what we currently do...WAR. Our economy runs on WAR. And as I'm sure you know we lead the way in almost everything violent in comparison with other western countries. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's citizens would like to feel safe and have security.
And btw, that's not true. Those stats didn't show that. They showed that if the person wasn't properly trained, it didn't make that big of a difference whether they had a weapon or not. That sense of security is not false. It's called peace of mind. In addition, having it is better than not having it, it's up to you train as much as you'd like. There are so many stories of people getting robbed and once the burglar hears "click, click". or realize the homeowner is armed, they leave.
Finally, knowing all you do about the evils of our government, you'd be a fool to not want to be armed.

And btw, that's not true. Those stats didn't show that. They showed that if the person wasn't properly trained, it didn't make that big of a difference whether they had a weapon or not. That sense of security is not false. It's called peace of mind. In addition, having it is better than not having it, it's up to you train as much as you'd like. There are so many stories of people getting robbed and once the burglar hears "click, click". or realize the homeowner is armed, they leave.
Finally, knowing all you do about the evils of our government, you'd be a fool to not want to be armed.
That's my main reasoning, I'm all for people leaving their weapons locked up at home 24/7/365 (I pretty much do).

The study you reference is very skewed. It was done in Philly, and there was no control. The study basically polled anyone that carried a gun. The majority were illegal carry, and the majority were in dangerous areas. A better study would be to poll individuals that legally carry, and are trained in using their weapons. I guarantee the results would be significantly different.
It actually offers less protection, not more.
This statement is incorrect. When faced against an attacker, having a gun offers you more protection than not having a gun.

When someone is killed via drink driving, it is considered an accident you don't see a bunch of CEO's from the brewery's suggesting that the Government can't legislate against it and they don't want any restrictions on their product.

Thank you for participating in We the People to speak out on an issue that matters to you.
Lets not let arguments over the Constitutions Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First. President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press -- fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy. Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously, but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment -- or any other matter of public concern.
We recognize that the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, sparked an intense, and at times emotional, national conversation about the steps we can take as a country to reduce gun violence. In fact, your petition is one of many on the issue, and President Obama personally responded by sharing his views on this important issue.

In a recent press conference, President Obama also addressed the Second Amendment and the important perspective that law-abiding gun owners bring to the public conversation on this issue:
Look, like the majority of Americans, I believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. This country has a strong tradition of gun ownership that's been handed down from generation to generation. Obviously across the country there are regional differences. There are differences between how people feel in urban areas and rural areas. And the fact is the vast majority of gun owners in America are responsible -- they buy their guns legally and they use them safely, whether for hunting or sport shooting, collection or protection.
But you know what, I am also betting that the majority -- the vast majority -- of responsible, law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say that we should be able to keep an irresponsible, law-breaking few from buying a weapon of war. I'm willing to bet that they don't think that using a gun and using common sense are incompatible ideas -- that an unbalanced man shouldn't be able to get his hands on a military-style assault rifle so easily; that in this age of technology, we should be able to check someone's criminal records before he or she can check out at a gun show; that if we work harder to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, there would be fewer atrocities like the one in Newtown -- or any of the lesser-known tragedies that visit small towns and big cities all across America every day.

Teen charged with stabbing murder of student _ in Australia
A 13-YEAR-OLD Brisbane boy was last night charged with murder, after a 12-year-old schoolmate was stabbed to death in a bloody playground fight.

On most things Alex Jones is a paranoid loon but he does raise some interesting questions. Considering that at the time the constitution was written owning something like a musket would have been equivalent to what the United States military was using, and the intention of the second amendment was to arm citizens in opposition to a tyrannical government, shouldn't militia groups have access to the kind of modern weaponry necessary to successfully defend against an oppressive government? I'm throwing this out there. What do you guys think?

I agree, you've got a point. Guys like jones aren't equipped to engage in an actual debate. He's the equivalent of a street corner preacher. I always feel slightly guilty when I find myself agreeing with him, which is very infrequent. He isn't what I would consider an intellectual powerhouse.

The Follow-up on Piers stats
It's not compelling enough for me. I understand that if you are pro-guns to begin with why such a video would excite you, but there are several problems with it. Let's just take the last bit about violent crimes: what defines violent crimes? is there a consistency in the definition between the different countries? What about the effects of population density on 'violent crime'? How many of the 'violent crimes' ended up in murder? How does the 'violent crime' rate in the UK compare to its own past?
So the devil is in the details; I hate to see either side take numbers to their own advantage.
Also, what is not being discussed is that mass shootings are a crime category of their own. We should be addressing it as an issue separate from other forms of violence (including gun violence), IMO. I don't get why it's so hard to think clearly about this.

January 10, 2013 - Man shot in the head in Queensland, Australia
Police say a suspect has been arrested over a shooting which was sparked by a confrontation soon after a man drowned yesterday.
The 20-year-old man was arrested this morning and police say he could face an attempted murder charge.
He is accused of shooting a 32-year-old man in the head at close range at Woolgoolga, north of Coffs Harbour.

you know what i used a weapon for years in the Military and later in security work and i loved the basic Browning 9mm. i did like shooting at targets. The US has got out of control with weapons, i do not claim to know the rules over there but if anyone can buy a firearm(again i do not know the regulations) and automatic weapons then common sense tells you a % of these people might want to be a Rambo clown.Been proved time...after...time... ::)

I remember being in civilian clothes and doing covert(undercover) work sitting with a 9mm under my thigh, cocked round in the spout..ready. I find it funny that some here think itīs "manly" to be armed...itīs not. A firearm you handle with respect and unless you are well trained you have no business with one at all.

What a lot of foreigners don't get is that much of America's violence about (70% - 80%) is tied to the drug trade and gang violence, something that most of western Europe, Japan, etc.... never really experienced. Yes, they may have little pockets of this or that, but not on the same levels that America's urban centers have.
This is a country where certain people kill each other over chicken wings, Air Jordans, and the colors of the rag in their back pocket or what shitty block they claim. You can regulate any and all things and it won't matter. It's a societal problem in many areas, not a hardware one.

I live in the United States where everyone has guns. I don't know anyone that's been shot, or anyone that's ever shot someone (other than cops).

Why, If you are a good shot with a 9mm? If you have had enough practice to get accurate with a 9mm, then you also should have basic understanding of gun safety. Do you have young kids at home or something?
Every single gun owner i know is extremely responsible with their firearms and many of them own all types (need a shotgun, hand gun 9mm and 45, rifle just to cover basics ) since it is also their hobby and they like to collect different types.
The large majority of gun violence in the US is done by gangs and criminals. Any new laws that are passed will have little to no impact on a demographic already breaking the law.
