Bryant missing shots at historic rate

http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/98194/bryant-missing-shots-at-historic-rate?ex_cid=sportscenterFB

Maybe Kobe Bryant is trying to make up for all of the shots he didn’t take while injured last season. Or maybe he’s trying to take enough shots to justify his $23.5 million salary. Whatever the reason, Bryant is shooting – and missing -- at a historically high rate.

It’s early in the season, of course, so the small-sample-size caveat is in effect. But through five games, Bryant’s 25.5 shots per 36 minutes would rank third in NBA history. The only player to average more shots per 36 minutes was Wilt Chamberlain, in 1961-62 (29.3) and 1962-63 (26.2).

But whereas Chamberlain shot better than 50 percent from the field in his seasons of greatest usage, Bryant is shooting 40.2 percent.

On Tuesday night, Bryant attempted 37 field goals (and missed 23). His usage rate exceeded 40 percent for the third time in five games this season. His season-long usage rate of 38.6 percent rivals his career high of 38.7 in 2005-06, when he averaged 35.4 points.

And the Lakers are 0-5.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Hornets, Bryant is 25 missed shots from tying the NBA mark for most misses in a career. Former Celtics great John Havlicek missed 13,417 shots in 1,270 games (10.6 misses a game). Bryant has missed 13,369 in 1,250 games (10.7 per game). This season, Bryant is missing an average of 14.6 shots a game. At this pace, the record will be his Nov. 11 at Memphis.

Not sure why they though Irving, Lebron and Love would be a good fit.  Seems to be too much overlap in their roles and not enough complimentary play.  Meanwhile Bosh was player of the week last week and is playing like a monster without Lebron.  Go figure.

Any team with LeBron should pretty much automatically be a top 2-3 team in the East, although I'm not sure I see this team getting by both the Bulls and the Pacers (or even the Heat, they look good so far) if all are at full health.

In the event that they do, the Spurs or whoever comes out of the West will cornhole them in the finals.

Re: Kobe, I say let him hoist 30 shots a game and see if he can lead the league in scoring at 36 or however old he is, it's not like the Lakers are going to do anything else that's interesting this season.  James Harden is shooting an even worse FG% than Kobe but nobody's on his ass.

The Lakers have no one on the roster other than Kobe that is a dependable scorer that can get their own shot.  Kobe has no choice but to shoot shoot shoot for us to even stay in games.  It's 5 games into the year with a new coach, new system, new(crap) teammates coming off a devastating injury.  We've also played some of the toughest teams in the league.  If Kobe stays healthy his FG% will creep up to where it normally is.

Niggahs just gotta talk shit and bitch about something he does.  Gotta ignore the fact that he's playing great considering all the years and mileage on those legs.  He looks like he's close to the 2009 and 2010 Kobe.  Give the man props for doing something that almost nobody else in history could do.  He's a shooting guard, not a center that can just stand around under the hoop all night.  To play at this high of a level at that position is nothing short of miraculous.

Lolz.

I told you guys that Cleveland is just the 2013-14 Miami Heat version 2.0.  Very top heavy roster with a horrible bench that can't contribute worth shit.  It's still really early and I'm sure they'll get better but when a bunch of people said they'll win the title I was like...uh, slow down.

They only played 8 players tonight.  WTF is gonna happen if someone gets hurt?

LOL... in a month or two, CLE will be amazing.   Of course they won't have chemistry yet, they have young douchebags used to losing.    They'll end up with the 3rd seed, and healthy, they'll murder the #1 Heat or Bulls.   DRose will have 3 broken ankles by then, and LBJ against Heat will be some insane shit - an angry focused lebron we rarely see.  He and Bosh staring each other down lol, that'll be great.

CLE will be fine,  LBJ just has to punk those little rookies wanting to shine.

0 assist point guard of peace. I agree with 240, by the all star break the Cavs will be cruising nicely.

Kobe is scrapping and playing desperate.  His 19th year in the league, unreal.  Too bad his teammate suck royal ass.  I'll give them one thing though, this team works hard and plays with great energy.  Unfortunately, they just don't have enough talent to get it done.

What the fuck else is he going to do.

As for Derrick Rose, Fuck him.

Derrick Rose on why he sits out of games when he's injured: 'I'm thinking about after I'm done with basketball'
guy, you barely have played any basketball, you have made lotto money via contracts.

Derrick Rose doesn't have what it takes mentally to be a professional athlete.  If he's that preoccupied with his life after basketball that he has to take time of when he sprains and ankle, the dude should just retire.

Rose is the Phil Heath of the NBA.
