Ars gratia artis, i.e., Art for arts sake.  I had a teacher who used to say that art, true and beautiful art (not that shit by turd cutters like Yoko Ono and others of that creatures kind) is it's own raison d'etre, which roughly means "reason for being".


This sculpture in wood is a well done piece of art.

I see it as an ironic tribute to his wooden acting in his film 'career'. Alternatively, how he often made decisions using his wooden pecker rather than whatever's inside his head (probably cheese fondue fused with brain tissue).
