Yea, its bad over there, my uncle was telling me that all the men in their neighborhood are taking shifts to keep a watch over looters and thugs, they also hired armed guys to help them with security since the police has pretty much dissolved.
-

I think its pretty much in anarchy now, regardless of who is in power, the people are still acting as such. I would like for all this to get resolved soon, but i dont think that will be the case! its a shitty situation, for everybody over there. my wife and i just keep trying to get through to our families and make sure they are safe.

Hope Sherief has enough pics in his hard drive to get his daily men in thongs fix, until he's able to access the internet again.

In most revolutions there is someone waiting in the wings. The problem in this case is that there is no dominant figure out there. It will create a power vacuum. There are about 10 different factions waiting in the wings and by all accounts the most powerful is the Muslim Brotherhood. That would be bad news.
I tend to agree with Arch. Dictator that Mubarak is he kept order in the country and is an ally to the US and honors the peace treaty with Israel. That will all change. Sure Mabarak is no saint but in this world the choice is rarely between good and bad but between bad an worse. We've made this mistake before. Under Batista's rule Cuba was a booming resort town, but since he was no saint and was repressive and ruthless he was over thrown and we got Castro instead. Same with Samoza, not good enough for the leftist bleeding hearts so we got the Sandinistas instead. And who could forget the worse President in my generation (so far), Jimmy Carter. Turning his back on the heavy handed Shah, who like Mubarak kept his savage people at bay, gave us the Ayatollah. It is that worthless President who can't just shut up and build his houses for the poor and write bad poetry is one of the reasons why we have what we have today.
Be careful what you wish for.

yes, all my iranian friends are telling me its 1979 all over again. it sucks because they are at a point of no retun, only clear guy that seems Like He Could lead the country if the opposition does succeed is that Baradei guy, i will be honest though i dunno much about him, and just cause the muslim brotherhood are saying they wont try to get involved now, doesnt mean they wont try to later, thats exactly what happened in iran back in the day.

Your amoral lack of sentiment leads me to believe that you would pump a 230 grain Federal hydra-shok into the base of my skull if the price was right. Then relax with a meatball sub and Pepsi while watching a rerun of The Simpsons.

Basically, they have no plan, no speaker, no real idealogy

-
In all seriousness...
Big A C flemmmmmmmmmm ;D I hope your families and friends are safe and all this comes to end..
I also hope Sherief is okay along with his families and friends
-
Why. What I wrote is clear/succinct.
To you, but not to me. What's wrong with the scenario that may occur and the examples given. There is no clear successor and the Muslim Brotherhood, which people not be aware spawned Hamas, may very well rise to power and Egypt becomes another Islamic State.
The key point is that the choices in this world is rarely between good and bad but bad and worse.
I'm primarily concerned about US interest and given the region Egypt under Mubarak is about as good as it gets for us.
-
Excuse me? ::)
Bad choice of words. But, as Arch clarified, I had the Islamic fundamentalist in mind.

I regret so much never getting Sherief's number so i could call and check on him during this time. I do know that he lives close to where my office is and thats an area thats pretty central and did see a lot of looters, but its a good area with alright folks, so i really hope he is ok and staying safe.
He's on my facebook and his last update is Jan 26th. I have spoken to him a few times over the phone but then we resorted more to email since the time zones would make it difficult to connect at a convenient time and the reception was off at times as well...so that was a while back and I seem to have misplaced his #.
Anyway hopefully all is fine and he will continue soon on this board with his unbiased threads about Nasser and other bodybuilders!

it all started when a tunisian poor vegetables seller burnt himself to protest against the police who had taken his goods because he was working illegally or something like this.. then all tunis protested against their dictator because of this poor guy and the tunisian army was on the side of the ppl so the president escaped!!.. after this a lot of demonstrations took place in many arab countries including egypt.. it started in egypt on jan. 25 and none including the protestants expected anything like what had happened in tunis,.. we were expecting just another protest asking for a better life but so many ppl joined and when the egyptian police dealt violently with them "as usual" ppl became stronger and kept coming in big numbers and fighting the police till the police was unable to control anything!!.. the egyptian army which is always loved by egyptians so far is neutral and none expect it to act violently against the ppl and at the same time it's still loyal to president moubarak so the situation is not as in tunis!!.. in all cases mubarak would leave by september but what has happened will force him to do some necessary changes before he leaves and also wont make his son the coming president as it was planned!!..
now a lot of other arab leaders has started to improve their policies because they have learned the lesson!!.. the power of ppl succeeded in tunis and then in egypt in less than one month so it will definitely succeed in many other placed if their leaders dont change towards their ppl!!..

Rolling down Rodeo with a shotgun.

Nice to see you back here Sherief, and continue to keep yourself and your family safe!
thx brother,.. seriously it was the first time to feel my life was not that important and to care more about my wife and son who were/are supposed to be protected by me!!.. seriously it was very normal to find many armed guys trying to attack houses!!..
what is happening has brought the best in the egyptians.. all ppl now are very good towards each other all the time in the streets although this was not the normal.. because of the bad economy and the always busy traffic ppl were always nervous and angry.. now ppl love and respect each other more.. i am not talking about those who are still fighting each other to see if mubarak shall leave by september or to leave immediately because if these idiots dont stop this shit egypt will be unsafe and will give the opportunity to "others" to offer their help!!..
-
hey Sherief in this time of crisis, how many hours have you found to put in the gym this week?
And is travel by camel still allowed under the curfew?
and how are you able to access the internet? Have they restored internet access?
i trained only 2 times when the area i live in became safer in my brother's flat as he has a bench and some free weights.. now there is no need to stay in front of the house defending it all the time..
using camels is not normal at all in the main streets but some of mubarak followers sent these armed men on camels and horses to force the protestants who want mubarak to leave immediately to return to their homes so everyone can return to his work and life can go again!!..
i am with the protestants to force mubarak to do many necessary and unexpected changes but i am against them to ask him to leave NOW!!..
as for the internet it was stopped by the government to prevent the protestants from encouraging more ppl through sites like facebook and youtube but now as everything is clear in front everybody they have returned it again!!..

will give the opportunity to "others" to offer their help!!..
Hmmm... the egyptian army which all the egyptian people love does not mind taking 1.5 billion of our help every year, so what is wrong if we help some more?
-
Hmmm... the egyptian army which all the egyptian people love does not mind taking 1.5 billion of our help every year, so what is wrong if we help some more?
this 1.5 billion is not to improve the army's weapons as you know but only to buy the loyalty of egypt in all decisions.. most of this money is distributed among the big ppl of egypt including some army leaders and we all know this very well!!..

They are poor, have been under Mubarak's boot for decades and are tired of seeing him and his cronies make a fortune for themselves and make a mockery of Egypt's political economy. You are a wealthy Egyptian, so of course you want all economic and political structures to remain in place. Quite natural.

Yup. He's got a sweet outside gym, and obviously DSL internet access. That's more than 99% of his countrymen, and he's pleading poverty!? Remember, during the French Revolution, all the nobles assumed the garb of peasants to try to escape execution/recriminations.

He's got serious space, and seemingly upper level space, to just to put towards dbs and bbs just lying around for his workouts. You know that rooftop space in Cairo is in demand just for living/sleeping space, right!? It's the largest city in Africa, and square feet are at a serious premium.

Coming from a guy that has many "internet battles" with Sherief a class statement. When this all settles I'm sure you two will back at it again. ;D

Respect to the Egyptians for rising up against tyrants and corrupt governments. Hopefully more countries will do the same in the future.

Chimps is the typical liberal. Like all good men he despises dictators and exploitation but in the real world you have to consider the alternatives. Reminds me of those bleeding hearts forcing Nike to close a factory in Malaysia. These busy body's unilaterally determine that the workers were being exploited. They didn't ask the workers who line up and even pay part of their initial wages to work for an American company. Nike was forced to close the factory. What do you think happened to those exploited workers?
Those that weren't homeless and living on the streets became prostitutes, including boys and girls.
Mubarak is done but if there isn't an orderly transition very bad things can happen. Not just to the people of Egypt but the world. And just like with Castro, the Ayatollah, and even post Vietnam the left will remain largely silent.

i havent seen the wizard himself but sure i see his pictures with ppl everywhere in the streets these days ;D
