This area has double tracks, of both which are used daily. It is possible that they didn't realize until it was too late which track the train was coming on and he fell when they are videotaping?
Channel 5 out here showed some still of the crew filming on the tracks, and afterwards.
Burbank police said a preliminary investigation “revealed Mr. Plitt was accompanied by two other men, one of whom was filming Mr. Plitt on the train tracks. The conductor of the southbound train saw Mr. Plitt on the tracks, attempted to stop the train, and sounded the train’s horn.
