He'll never be off for the rest of his life if he wants any kind of muscular development.

Once you use sythetic hormones, you need them for life to have any physique.

I know Melvin was dealing with financial issues, which prevented him from competing. I would have been shocked if he was still as huge as he was

Melvin is doing fine, but not competing anymore.  He is training people, working on crossfit, and working with a supplement company called Octane Labs.  Lives out here in Southern California, and had a great seminar at the Fit Expo in Jan-Feb, which he still was doing great.
