Firefox and Wargames are excellent 'later' examples.  For earlier stuff, The Ipcress Files, or anything with Michael Caine as Harry Palmer.

For something super-dark, read or watch On The Beach.  (Nuclear aftermath)

And for something spying related but light, Graham Greene's Our Man in Havana....
