Bodybuilding food can cost a lot of money, we basically eat way more food than we would if we were not training. In my case its like 4x more food. What you guys buy when you are on budget?

tuna and rice

I don't know. I've never been on a food budget.
What kind of budget are we talking about? Enough for bulk chicken breasts? Or do you have to settle for chicken asses?

oats for carbs
Chicken thighs for protein
peanut butter for fats.

you should never be on a budget with food, I am sure you can find other parts of your life to reduce spending but food is the most important thing, never go cheap with food.
-
I will add my own tip, chicken livers, I used to buy them for 1 dollar, 500 grams. They are full of some important vitamins and 23 grams of protein per 100g of livers is great. Important is to cook them with something, over time you can start to hate that liver taste, put some veggies in and you will be fine.
They are really powerfull, try them.

for some people like e.g. Goodrum, being on a food budget is not a choice.

yup, and regular ground beef is usually about a buck a pound.
skim milk powder is a good cheap alternative to protein powder.

Grapefruit seems to hold Bodybuilders over when the budget is tight

I never even thought about skim milk powder. That is a smart suggestion. I don't take any bodybuilding supplements any more though. I just stick to whole foods at this point. I don't trust the supplement industry. My protein shake these days in cranberry juice, pineapple juice, egg whites and some whole eggs blended together.

Look for sakes where chicken is 2 bucks a pound. Costco 20lbs of rice, tuna, oats, enemy shrimp if you can get it for 5 bucks a pound.
Biggest saver is cutting you portions from 8oz to 6. My not seem like a lot. But when your eating it 6 times a day it will

QFT, I will add vegetables in a can are cheap. Fresh produce though is getting expensive. Some times you can find good deals on fruit. Also a pan of chicken legs from Costco is dirt cheap. I think they cut off the legs off the roasted chickens they don't sell at the end of the day. If your stomach can tolerate them cook beans with rice.

i buy chicken breast when it goes on sale and stockpile the freezer with it.
white potatoes and jasmine rice for carbs.

For one thing...The whole protein thing is fucking completely out of control...I will say that. Protein is by far the most expensive macro.
IT ALL STEMS FROM THE FART POWDER ILLUMINATI! 10 SCOOPS A DAY!!! ::) ::)
I know guys who are 200+ lbs and LEAN who don't even get 1g/lb. When they tell me their diet it's maybe 100-150g of quality protein per day.
It all stems from this "bulking" mindset...If you are gaining more than 1-2lbs per month you're getting fat. That is 12-24lbs in a year. 120-240lbs of muscle in 10 years..get real. You're a fatass. No one needs to be eating to gain fucking 1lb per week...Jesus you will be obese in 1 year.
Getting big is about CALORIES...Not fucking 500g of protein a day. 100g of protein will be completely spared by 800g of carbs in a day...where as 100g of carbs won't spare 800g of protein. Some of those aminos WILL be converted to glucose, so why eat it? Carbs are metabolic jet fuel (t3, leptin, ghrelin, etc.) Protein is for repairing tissue etc...
You can easily eat 200g of protein 400g carbs and 100g fat a day for <$10. That is 3,300 cals a day. If you need more than that drink a couple extra glasses of milk.
-

I like this post. As much stupid crap I see on these boards, luckily, I don't think I see to much of the "ermehgawd MO PROTEIN" I see elsewhere. Be careful saying it's about calories though, that sets some people in to thinking "yeah a calorie is just a calorie". Oh god...that road of stupid. And then the IIFYM retardation... You almost never see top tier amateurs spouting off that nonsense, and certainly none of the pros.

When in doubt, start with 1 gram per pound of bodyweight and adjust as necessary.
As for being on a budget, I'm always on one. Shopping at military commissaries, you can get meat (beef, in particular) fairly cheap. Also, learning how to combine certain veggies and grains to make complete proteins will save you a bundle.
And, of course, getting protein powders on clearance sale doesn't hurt either. ;D

Real question
No TA answer
How do you guys cook lentils to make them alright?
-
I usually eat your mom's pussy when I'm broke.
-
I just had a thought.
'foods on a budget'?
like you can easily buy enough chicken breast to fulfill your protein requirements for an entire week for 40$. a 20lb bag of white potatoes is like 5-10$. a huge 20lb bag of jasmine rice which would easily last you a couple months is 15$.
how in THE FUCK can you not afford 50$ a week TO FEED YOURSELF?
do you not have a fucking job? if you can't afford 50$ to eat a week you'd best take a look at your life and make some serious adjustments cause your way behind the curve. the problem isn't not being able to afford good foods. that's the result of a bigger problem w your life.
lol Jesus Christ.

I used to make a tomato based soup for lentils. Tomato paste, onions, garlic, chili powder(can get 2lbs from amazon), pepper flakes. Whatever you want to put in for flavor.

Try to live with 10 dollars for a week!
just kiddin, ofc I can buy good food for cheap in big packs, I have my connections, but still I like to explore some new cheap food ideas. Sometimes shit hits the fan in your life with medical bills and or legal issues. Or the company you've worked for for 10 years decides to downsize or cut back your hours. I know youre single with no children but most people around here have families and stuff so its different than just feeding and looking out for yourself .

dude. seriously. if you have kids and a family you have a responsibility to be able to afford their upkeep. or else you shouldn't be having kids and a family.
I wasn't born w a silver spoon in my mouth. my dad worked hard his whole life. when the prime rate went thru the roof in the 80's my folks were in pretty dire straits. id hear then talking at night when I was in bed. breaks my heart to this day. cause I know the sacrifices they made to make sure we all ate well. and provide me w the things I needed in life to succeed.
I understand short term bad times. I've seen them. but if your chronically unable to buy yourself wholesome good foods to feed yourself or your family then you need to look at the bigger picture cause the problem like I said isn't not being able to eat well- that's the result of a much bigger problem.
bro if you chronically cannot afford $50 a week to eat, or a multiplier of that to feed your family well you need to sort your shit out.

But i try to have some sympathy for others who suffer long term.

Good point...
However, lets say I was a med student, working a part time bar job (which I probably shouldn't be) trying to pay a good percentage of my tuition fees as I go along.
That leaves me (hypothetically speaking) maybe $20 a week to eat.
Add on top that this imaginary person might be on 500mg test a week, so that complicates things also.

Thank you sounds good
I've been on a cooking spree lately
Clean as fuck diet
Almost paleo actually
Going to try this lentil concoction tonight wolfox I have all the ingredients and am going to make a mushroom type of paste my girl is amazing at that literally tastes like beef (no homo; obligatory) to go w/ it
We cook as a team meaning as things simmer I get my cock sucked
Oh
And of course 4 chicken breasts stir fry Marinated then dipped in whole wheat flour
Then stir fried in a pan already sautéed in onions and sesame oil
NO HOMO
-
Nothing homo about being able to cook bro.
If that were the case, True Adonis would have died of aids by now

hows the studies going bro? keep at it dude. good things ahead. nothing worth while comes without sacrifice.

When I was ballin had fillet/sirloin steak and chicken fillets. Now I take round steak mostly and roast whole chickens. Steak is €9.99/kg (grass fed organic - all butcher beef here is) and chicken is probably raped by farmer in a cage cos it costs €7 for 2.2kg. Also get Iberian parma ham for €1.89 per 100g from local coffee shop.
-
Pah! The idea of a getbigger having to budget for food is laughable!
-
I know this is a joke, but hell...I make a lot of money these days and I still budget my food. Old habits.

you should never be on a budget with food, I am sure you can find other parts of your life to reduce spending but food is the most important thing, never go cheap with food.
