I work for a startup where everyone gets equity in the company,  there's 401k match and profit sharing bonus.

What does that mean for entry level employees in  terms of real money? Specifically what is your hourly staff paid?

The customer service ppl make 55k to start, not a whole lot but they’re also fully remote.

That was an okay wage in rural America 5 years ago. When are they getting a raise?

In all honesty that is pretty decent for a CSR.

raise once a year, end of our fiscal year,  but people don't really stay in that long in support, we have built in progression ladders, most people usually go on to some sort of bi\analyst role with our digital partners. The only career support people we have are like moms who want to stay at home and old ppl just looking to do something\insurance

This is a terrible plan!

Higher wages means some restaurants will have to close and less new restaurants will open resulting in FEWER jobs for the very people the government is supposed to be helping.

 :(

Don't worry landlords in Cali didn't miss this news.  Rents just went up another $100-$150 a month. That would be 3 consecutive years.

In 1975 in high school I had a min wage job that paid $2.10.

Inflating that to today is $11.98.

Do you think I could have lived on $2.10/hr in 1975?

No way.

It’s absurd.

My after school high school job paid $4 an hour which was a little above min wage at the time.

Fast food jobs (minimum wage jobs) are entry level jobs usually used as a stepping stone for teenagers starting out in the workforce not meant to be full time positions.

Lol your 30 years out of date in the modern economy this is a career people with degrees.

$4,950

https://blog.cheapism.com/average-car-price-by-year/#slide=36

That's $114/mo 48 months @ 10% with $500 down.

In 1990, when we had our first house built and just starting out (4 BR Colonial, 3 acres) for 100K, wife and I were making $8.00 an hour each... (17K per year).
34K total...

1990 - Median Home Value-$79,10
1990 - Avg Annual Pay - 25K

It's literally one of the least skilled jobs in the nation. Almost all fast food chains reward unskilled laborers with longevity.  Promotions, manager, store manager, district manager etc...  which comes with pays raises. My POS brother step son is probably 30 now, began working at one of the burger chains about 12 or 13 years ago.... he's some kind of manager... it's not a great living but is enough for him to have his own place and support his witch and her rugrats.

This will all work its way out one way or another.

The prices for fast food will go up and customers either will pay or not.

I never eat fast food so I'm out of the mix.

Eating out will get more and more expensive.

Same with everything.

Disney keeps raising prices.  What is the tipping point where people stop going?

Will they just keep paying more and more?

prices for fast food were going to up one way or another, they could give them a pay decrease and still find a way to raise prices.

Perhaps, but the same question arises?

How much will people pay?

Most people are foolish with money.

I remember when a McD hamburger was 10 cents (1972).

Whoppers were $1.25 late 70s.

How old are you Residue?  Just wondering on your age group if you don't mind telling.

Yeah we're about to see a great die off in employment. You're either a welfare recipient or a tech guy.

I guarentee you the people pushing this work in AI.

that being said, wages are just keeping pace with costs of living in California/inflation.

The cost of wages per cheese burger is super low in fast food.

says who? up until about 1970 america min wage was literally a livable wage. and you could argue, that post war america until around 1970 was the best period of american history. hmm, what are the odds those things line up

In California in 1970 the minimum wage was $1.45. That’s not “living wage” by any stretch of the imagination. In 1976 I worked in a grocery store as a box boy, my wage was $2.50….still not a “living wage”. It was an entry level position.

Most mom and pop restaurants can’t and didn’t bounce back from that as with some corporate owned restaurants. The same will happen again.
