Title: Injuries
Post by: Big N on March 03, 2013, 09:32:11 AM
How many injuries have you had so far in your life time. I've had one fractured left ankle, left knee injured, and left shoulder labrum tear. What's yours.

Well, do minor injuries count or like where do you draw a line between a sprained ankle and a quad tear? I hurt my back, shoulder and my ankle but nothing serious really, thank god.

Bulging discs in my back. I had a cortisone injection about two years ago that didn't help. I'll just live with it.

I was doing the movement absolutely strict, using only 70lb dumb-bells.  Just not for my physiology, I guess... Arnold used them, Ric Drasin swears by them- they went up-and-down the rack in poundages.

I was playing pool and after I put my money a couple of the balls didn't come out. I went to deadlift one end of the commercial pool table and my bicep snapped. I got the table up on one end around 4 inches when it happened. I didn't realize they weigh over 800 pounds. My bicep was completely detached and was up around my delt. No partial tear but complete. The injury affected my whole upper body. I couldn't even bench 135lbs cause the whole body was shot from the injury. Took 7 months after the operation to get my strength back. The first pull up was actually scary.

I never saw a reason to do the Arnold press .. rotating your hands . bringing the Dumbells so low in the start position. Terrible exercise. the rotation alone in the upward phase causes the damage.

are the arnold presses the reason arnold has blown out both shoulders?

Yeah I tend to agree. For bodybuilding purposes, I'm not a fan of any shoulder move involving external rotation unless the degree of rotation is very minimal. The volume of work that the shoulders receive from a traditional bodybuilding program is sufficient IMO, and when you start incorporating a lot of external rotation movements with high volume or even worse, heavy weights, the risk of injury becomes compounded. Just my .02 based on seeing patients and my own anecdotal experience.

yeah   arnold has blown out his shoulders   he was on jet ski one time, and said that they just gave out as he was hitting the waves   he said that the ligaments and tendons of his shoulders had been like thread thin from lifting weights

Partially torn Achilles. Brutal pain that would bring a beta to their knees.

Arnold was not an ego trainer......he trained with moderate weights and put more focus on feeling the muscle work.....i think he did incur a few minor injuries...but for the most part..... he was careful in the gym.

Lee Haney was the same way.
