you know, in all seriousness.....If the Ravens lose to the Steelers on Sunday, yeah it will suck but I'm not going to lose sight of the fact that this year has been one to remember. Going 5-11 last year, drafting a superstar-in-the-making in Joe Flacco, making the AFC title game as a 6th seed....

That's a lot to build on! The future looks bright. Ray lewis is still playing at an all-pro level, Ed Reed is still in his prime, Mclain is a beast, and the O-line is getting better and better. The team is young and only going to get better. Harbaugh is one hell of a coach to boot.

With all that being said, GO RAVENS BEAT PITTSBURGH

Flacco is not a superstar in the making?? Is that what you disagree with??

You're an absolute bozo then.

The kid has special talent and instincts. He can make all the throws. He stands tall in the pocket. He throws one of the best deep balls in the league. He has tremendous character and is a humble person. He is the first rookie quarterback in NFL HISTORY to lead his team to two playoff victories in one season.

Joe Flacco is the real deal.

Flacco looks like Little Ben.  Good game manager, doesn't make mistakes (Ben's first two years in the league), which I think is a byproduct of Cam managing the game (much like Whiz did), big strong kid with an arm and legs to stretch plays.  If he turns out to be a Big Ben clone, WINS GAMES like Ben did in the playoffs in 2005 (even though he had a subpar superbowl), then yes I would agree.  As it stands right now, he is on pace to do some of the same things Ben did.

Oh, Here we go Stillers, here we go!   ;D

Billick's gone from the Ravens for one reason only IMO, because for a decade or so there was no real QB. All they need now is what this guy brings, so if the rest of the team holds together they'll improve in future. He doesn't have to be a superstar, it's not needed to win a SB when the rest of the team's already solid.

I feel bad for Ray Ray.  All those years languishing with Trent, getting a beatdown McNair, and finally some light at the end of the tunnel and he is older, not as explosive.  I don't like the Ratbirds, but respect players who bring it on every down.  Ray Ray is one of them.

Still made ALL-PRO at age 33. That's a higher honor than making the pro-bowl.

Ray still brings it. He makes up for being a slight step slower with a tremendous football IQ and passion for the game. He has nothing left to prove except wanting another ring. With this team he may want to stick around because he just might get another title in the next couple of years. Ray Lewis could start in the NFL well into his late 30's if he wanted to.

It is but all of the pressure is on the Steelers to win. The Ravens are happy to be there. A rookie QB, a rookie head coach, and a young team overall. Believe me, I want to win but it would be considered a big upset if they beat the Steelers Sunday.

I'm sure Earl will trash talk like crazy if the Steelers win but that's ok with me. If his team wins he should talk smack. But the Steelers better finish the job and win the SuperBowl and represent our division and the AFC. If the Ravens win, you better believe we'll take care of business.

Me too, but nothing against GUTS or the Ravens as i like them too especially because of their rookie head coach and QB, However, I'd rather have the Steelers (as a former fan) get the 6th trophy and it will be a while before the Niners are there again.

I think the Ravens have a far better chance of winning then i think you are giving them credit for.  It's hard to beat any team 3 times in a row and the Ravens are one tough team.

ravens haven't had a bye since week 2, the announcers said they looked tired late in the titans game

when the ravens won they seemed to be a little too emotional, kinda reminded me of the steelers in 04 when they beat the pats to end their winning streak, looked like harbuagh and his father were in tears

steelers were calm and business like after the chargers win

ravens have a rookie qb who seems to be cool as ice, but so was big ben until the afc title game in 04, all of a sudden he turned into a deer caught in headlights, the pressure goes through the roof

steelers playing at home

That's why you play the game. The key for the Ravens is to have sustained offensive drives to keep the defense fresh going into the fourth quarter. After 17 straight weeks of playing, we need to limit our defensive reps. Doesn't matter if those long drives only amount to FG's, because it will keep the defense fresh and alert to make plays on the ball and possibly force turnovers.

Willie Parker scares me right now. We had a hard time containing Chris Johnson in the early stages of the Titans game. When he went down with an injury, it took a huge element away from their running game. If Johnson hadn't of gotten hurt, I don't know if the Ravens would have won, to be perfectly honest. Parker has a similar shifty, one cut style of running that Johnson has. But Willie likes to run between the tackles more than Johnson does.

The Ravens will give everything they have and leave it all on the field. They have a better-than-average chance of winning, IMO.

Five subplots for Ravens-Steelers

1. Flacco is the new Roethlisberger. Actually, Joe Flacco has already won more playoff games as a rookie than Ben Roethlisberger did, 2-1. Roethlisberger was a sensation in his first season, 2004, when he led the Steelers to a 15-1 record. But he threw five interceptions in the playoffs and the Steelers were pounded at home by the Patriots in the AFC championship, 41-27. Roethlisberger, who remembers every slight, no matter how far back it dates, said he will use that game as motivation for this one.

Flacco, obviously, does not have Roethlisberger's résumé, but so far he has made fewer mistakes in his first postseason. Like Roethlisberger, Flacco does not have to carry the load by himself. He can rely on a vaunted defense and a tough running attack. In a game that figures to be low scoring, one or two big plays could make the difference, and Flacco has shown a knack for going deep.

2. Three times is the harm. Anybody looking for a drinking game this week should count how often they hear: "There's nothing harder than beating a team three times." The Steelers have edged the Ravens twice this season, once in overtime and once on a last-minute touchdown. In other sports, this would lead pundits to speculate that the Steelers have the Ravens number, and the Ravens have little chance. But for some reason, in the NFL, beating a team twice is no reason to expect it can be done a third time.

"It's the familiarity issue," said former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis. "San Diego thought they knew what was coming [in the rematch with Pittsburgh in the divisional round], but they really weren't sure. Baltimore knows exactly what's coming."

The Ravens have also been preparing for Pittsburgh, the class of the AFC North, since training camp. "Teams in this division are built to beat other teams in this division," Bettis said. "Their personnel fit our personnel."

3. Similarity breeds contempt. It had not been more than 20 minutes since the Steelers completed their divisional playoff victory against the Chargers and tackle Willie Colon was already talking about the "arrogance" and "disrespect" shown by the Ravens. For two teams that clearly despise each other, the Steelers and the Ravens sure are a lot alike.

Besides the big game-managers behind center (Roethlisberger and Flacco), there are the play-making safeties (Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed), ferocious linebackers (James Harrison/James Farrior/LaMarr Woodley and Ray Lewis/Bart Scott/Terrell Suggs) and not-to-be-forgotten running backs (Willie Parker and Willis McGahee). Together, these teams have given new meaning to attack on defense. They blitz until they drop -- or until a quarterback drops. In the NFL, imitation is always the most sincere form of flattery, which means the Steelers and the Ravens have to appreciate each other more than they let on. "I give them respect," Colon said. "As hard as that is to do."

4. Holmes-field advantage. Trailing 9-6 with less than a minute left at M&T Bank Stadium on Dec. 14, Roethlisberger called a play the Steelers had never run before. He rolled left, rolled back to the right, and against all of his better instincts to throw the ball away, let fire to Santonio Holmes, his fourth option. Holmes caught the ball at the goal line, making it a tricky spot for the officials. They first ruled that Holmes was down at the 1. Then, after a challenge, they ruled that he crossed the plane for a touchdown. If they had kept their original call, there is a very good chance Sunday's game would be played back at M&T Bank Stadium. But Holmes' touchdown gave the Steelers the AFC North title, a first-round bye, and the right to host this game. Of course, if other playoff results are any indication, that might not be such an edge. The Steelers, playing on their soupy surface at Heinz Field, were the only home team to win last weekend.

5. Time to clear his head. Of all the glowing statistics that emerged from the Steelers divisional playoff victory, the most important number was 1. That's how many hits Roethlisberger took against the Chargers. Given that Roethlisberger has sustained three concussions in the past three years -- two on the field, one in his motorcycle accident -- his head will always be a subject of examination. But as startling as it was to see Roethlisberger in the lineup Sunday, only two weeks after he had been on a stretcher with no feeling in his arms, specialists were not so surprised. "Concussions are still not that well understood, but the impact and potential problems from them are understood well enough that most teams seem to be appropriately careful," said Dr. James Gladstone, co-chief of sports medicine in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. "You first make sure that at rest everything is normal and then you challenge them physically. You have people run and do exercises that will increase blood flow. If they do fine, then, in theory, they ought to be able to play."

I just hope the refs are fair to the Ravens and give them calls too. Last week Rivers was slammed to the turf and no personal foul call was awarded. Not that it would have changed the game, but 15 yds is usually a significant amount of yardage.

you want the qb's to wear skirts ::)

your 9ers in the 80's always laid hits like that on qb's, did you think they should throw a flag?

the league made famous by violence is being pussified

and if you want the refs to be fair, they will call holding penalties against the ravens because james harrison is constantly held

as for beating a team a 3rd time, it's been done 11 out of 18 times

i love how the "experts" like skip bayless think that gives the ravens a psychological advantage ::)

if anything the ravens should be thinking it's possible they can't beat the steelers, the number shows more often than not the team that won twice wins the 3rd time

Lol, a slap to the head unintentionally when trying to block a pass gets a personal foul, but that didn't? It's not about wearing skirts, it's about being consistent. There's holding on EVERY PLAY in football, but not blatant slamming of QB's. Woodley basically suplexed him to the turf. If it happened to Rothlisberger and he got another concussion, you would be whining......truth.

Wrong. This is the playoffs. Regular season is out the window. The playoffs are a new season and the Ravens definitely feel like they have a legitimate shot to win.

I put no merit into that psycho babble. If the Ravens lose, it wont be because they felt they couldn't beat the Steelers. If they lose, the Steelers were simply the better team that day. Throw out the regular season. Throw out the trash talking. Throw out the newspaper quotes and the arm chair quarterback analysis.

Once the game starts, once the first hit is delivered......we will see who came to play football.

i agree they aren't consistent but woodley was making a tackle, when a defensive player wraps his arms around a qb he shouldn't be expected to gently drop the qb on the ground

harrison was grabbed behind the neck last week and there was no call, i've never seen a player get held so much

and no i wouldn't be whining about there not being a call on ben, if anything i'd be whining about ben getting hurt AGAIN because he is soft and delicate

football is supposed to be violent

You must be relieved to hear that news, Earl. I wonder why. Could be that you're afraid of losing this Sunday. I'm not scared of losing Sunday. It won't ruin my life. The Steelers are the better team this year but that doesn't mean the Ravens can't win. Yeah, it will really suck if the Ravens lose but this team is going to be very good over the next few years.

Suggs is playing. #55 has never missed a game and he won't miss this one either. Even with one good arm he's better than your sorry pass blocking O-line any day of the week.

Fuck Rolle, he blows these days anyway. Players need to step up to fill the void, plain and simple. Watch for SS Jim Leonard to be the X factor for the Ravens on Sunday. That boy can play!

I agree on the violence. In some cases I wish some of the rules were thrown out. There is so many pitter patter BS calls and it does take away from the sport. Yes we want to protect the players, but players in the 70's and 80's played that way and came back year after year. Not to mention medicine is way better than it used to be. I think it's just politics because of how much the players make now and owners just trying to protect their investments.

Congrats to the Steelers. Didn't come easy, though. Hines Ward knee injury didn't look good. Flacco finally played like a rookie.

Much respect to the Steelers though. Never thought I would say this but the Cardinals look surprisingly tough.

Great offense versus a tough defense. Interesting matchup.

great year for the Ravens. My head is still up and I'm still smiling. Winning the AFC championship with a rookie quarterback is a tough task. But the future looks great and we will be back in 2009!

Real classy, Earl that you would glorify someone's injury, after the fact. That was a hit that could have badly injured both Mcgahee AND Clark in a very bad way. Something like that could permanently injure a player and paralyze in some instances. Not only that, it was helmet to helmet and ILLEGAL. I don't give a fuck with Phil Simms or Jim Nance said about the hit being legal. You lead with the crown of your helmet, that's an illegal hit.

You're an even bigger piece of shit than I thought, Earl.

Celebrating the play is not cool.

That said, the hit was absolutely legal.  There is helmet-to-helmet contact on every play.  He led with his shoulder.  Even when you lead with your shoulder, there will be helmet-to-helmet contact.

Glorifying it is wrong. And Mcgahee was not okay. He spent the night in a shitty blue collar hospital in Shittsburgh. That alone counts for additional pain and suffering.

Just because they both wern't seriously injured does not mean that's okay to jerk off over it like you two fags are doing.

Why wouldn't I be bitter? You would be too if the roles were reversed. Probably even more so since the Steelers were favored to win against a banged up, two playoff game winning team like the Ravens. But I'm DAMN PROUD of my team and the Ravens will get even down the road. You can jerk off all you want about gunning for a 6th Lombardi trophy but the Ravens already have a title in their first five seasons as a franchise. The Steelers have been around for how many years? 76?

And you damn sure know you were scared shitless that the Ravens were going to kick a game winning field goal before Flacco threw that pick to Troy. He should have looked off the free safety but he made a rookie mistake at the wrong time. Maybe the Ravens were lucky to be playing in that game. But you were lucky to win, period. You can thank the Ravens for doing the heavy lifting for you against a Titans team that would have surely kicked your ass again.

Don't choke against the Cardinals (-7) And yes, the Steelers have lost in a Superbowl before. Neil 'Odonnell ring a bell?

sure i'd be bitter but i wouldn't be melting down like you are today

the ravens were not a typical expansion team, they moved a team from cleveland and just becuase they already have a title doesn't mean they will get another, only 3 teams have 5 super bowls and one of them could soon have 6 ;)

if you actually watched the game, you would've saw that the steelers dominated

it was close becauuse steelers shot themselves in the foot on special teams, ravens offense was pathetic and the defense wasn't anything special

sweed, parker, and holmes dropped wide open passes that would've gone for a td

to think that the steelers were lucky to win shows how stupid you are, the ravens were lucky the steelers kept them in the game

the cowboys were a better team and an afc title is better than losing before the super bowl

no, that's me owning you again and again like I always do. You have the weakest comebacks and you're about as funny as a pile of dog shit, Earl.

lol how are you owning me, i'm not the one crying about a player geting his bell rung and an afc title loss

your comebacks show pure anger and hate, for that reason i love your comebacks :D

sure i'd be bitter but i wouldn't be melting down like you are today

the ravens were not a typical expansion team, they moved a team from cleveland and just becuase they already have a title doesn't mean they will get another, only 3 teams have 5 super bowls and one of them could soon have 6 ;)

if you actually watched the game, you would've saw that the steelers dominated

it was close becauuse steelers shot themselves in the foot on special teams, ravens offense was pathetic and the defense wasn't anything special

sweed, parker, and holmes dropped wide open passes that would've gone for a td

to think that the steelers were lucky to win shows how stupid you are, the ravens were lucky the steelers kept them in the game

the cowboys were a better team and an afc title is better than losing before the super bowl
E

How much were you drinking during the game? Were you watching the second half? The Steelers didn't do SHIT on offense in the second half. The Ravens were down 2 POINTS before Flacco threw that pick that sealed the Steelers win.

You were lucky to win. The Steelers won because Flacco played like a rookie at the wrong time of the game. The Ravens had all of the momentum before that happened ont he final drive. Yes, I watched the game, Earl.

did you not notice our punter shank a punt?  sweed's wide open dropped pass?  those self inflicted mistakes prevented the game from being a blowout

wow I thought you were dumb before but now i know it, you actually believe the steelers were lucky to win ::)

the steelers forced those turnovers, funny how when the ravens got turnovers against the titans you said the same thing

don't forget steelers beat them twice in the season, you don't beat a team 3 times by luck

actually you could count the browns history before they moved to baltimore as a part of ravens history

it would still be 1 super bowl in 43 years

I will be disappointed if the steelers lose, but i will take pride in the season they had and know they will be back

they called it the toughest schedule of all time, numerous injuries, they handled the challenge like Men of Steel 8)

No you don't count the Browns' history with the Ravens. The Browns have a team in Cleveland as of right now. Consider the two years with no teams as timeout, if you will. The Ravens have been existence for 13 years.

I've given no indication that I'm into dudes like you have demonstrated on numerous occasions. No need to shadow project, Earl.

No matter what, losing the Superbowl game is more painful that losing the game that gets you to the Superbowl. Sounds like you're already preparing yourself with that likelihood by continuing to throw my team under the bus. Do you really think you'll still feel satisfied that the Steelers beat the Ravens three times this year if you end up losing the Superbowl? Get real, Earl!

On the flipside, if the Steelers lose the big game, do you really think I'm going to still be upset that the Steelers ended my season?? Nope.

what do you mean liklihood?  the steelers are heavy favorites, you only "think" the steelers will lose because you want them to lose, heck you said the ravens would "crush" the steelers remember that?

i'm sure if the steelers lose you will be happy, but it still doesn't erase the fact that the steelers owned your team this season

If you really think that I'm taking the Ravens season being over that seriously, then you need a reality check. I'm not bitter, you little turd. take a deep breath Earl. And realize you're always stay the loser you always were. At least you have the Steelers to live vicariously through. I just like to argue and you like taking the bait every single time.

I'm proud of my team's season. The Ravens will be back.

no an afc title is better than an afc title game loss, only a retard would think otherwise

you said before that you wanted the afc north to win the super bowl, funny how you change your tune after being owned haha

if you're not taking it so serious what is with all of the meltdowns?  oh that's right denial, another typical trait in the mind of a bitter desperate owned man ;D

the ravens won't be back, don't forget the steelers are in their way

"hahaha"(how old are you again, Earl?)

dude at the end of the day, no one is taking any of this as serious as you are. I'm leaving well enough alone because this back and forth bullshit never comes to an end.  whatever 'owned' means in your eyes is an obvious form of self satisfaction that you need to cling to in order to feel vindicated. Fine, whatever.

The Ravens will be back in 2009.

you started the name calling, taking shots at my city, and have had numerous meltdowns

when you call somebody "a real piece of shit" you can't pretend that you aren't taking this seriously

nice try at taking the "high road" :-*

Since you are obviously impervious to meltdowns in any capacity, I guess its easy for you to point anybody else out that disagrees with your often backwards logic as having a meltdown. Whatever you say, Earl. ::)

I only called you a real piece of shit after you were beating off over the hit that could have injured two players very badly from both teams.
