You Voted For It
« on: December 07, 2012, 11:43:26 AM »
The federal government borrowed 46 cents of every dollar it has spent so far in fiscal year 2013, which began Oct. 1, according to the latest data the Congressional Budget Office released Friday.

The government notched a $172 billion deficit in November, and is already nearly $300 billion in the hole through the first two months of fiscal year 2013, underscoring just how deep the government’s budget problems are as lawmakers try to negotiate a year-end deal to avoid a budgetary “fiscal cliff.”

Higher spending on mandatory items such as Social Security, Medicare and interest on the debt led the way in boosting spending compared with the previous year, which also highlights the trouble spots Congress and President Obama are struggling to grapple with.

All sides agreed to discretionary spending cuts and automatic spending cuts last year, but have been unable to agree on ways to control entitlement costs, which are the long-term drivers of deficits and debt.

Fiscal year 2013 began on Oct. 1 and so far the government has spent $638 billion and taken in just $346 billion in revenue.

That tax revenue is up by $30 billion compared with last year, or about 10 percent.

But spending is up even more — a staggering $87 billion, or 14 percent. The CBO said much of that higher spending total is due to timing of payments month-to-month. Without those shifts, spending would be up $22 billion, or 4 percent.

Overall, CBO analysts said that, accounting for shifts in both revenue and spending, the deficit would be $8 billion lower this year than it was last year at this time.

The agency, Congress’s nonpartisan budget scorekeeper, releases preliminary estimates of the government’s fiscal position each month. Final figures will come later this month from the Treasury Department.

The government is poised to post another $1 trillion deficit in fiscal year 2013, which would mark the fifth straight year. Before that, the record was $438 billion, which came in 2008, President George W. Bush’s last full year in office.

Congress and the White House are trying to hash out a long-term fiscal framework that could lead to higher taxes and limits on future spending.

Man, I voted for Romney, and would still vote for him today given the chance, but the constant looking back and saying I told you so does nothing to get us out of this mess.  No amount of complaining is going to fix it.  Do I believe that America is going in a direction I don't necessarily agree with? Yes, but it doesn't stop me from wanting Obama to succeed.  This infighting and refusal to budge on issues from both sides is getting annoying.  Get over it Congress, the world changes, and just because you don't like it does not mean you sit there like a spoiled child pouting and refusing to budge.  Let's roll this bitch forward and do what we need to do to get it on track!

this country is fucked no matter who is in office.  the government is corrupt and greedy.  they want to fix the worlds problems when we have more problems in our own country than can be dealt with.  they will allow people to kill themselves daily (tobacco) because the government gets it cut from it and the individual politicians get all sorts of kick backs from the tobacco companies.  2 years ago the DOJ took on online poker claiming it has ties to terrorism and put tens of thousands of people out of legal work.  they won't admit marijuana is harmless because the pharm and tobacco companies are paying them too much to admit that.  plus those old fucks don't like to admit they were wrong.  our privacy is being invaded everyday in the name of terrorism.  nsa, cia, fbi has way too much power and they have BS loopholes allowing them to do whatever the fuck they want because its terrorist related.  this country is a fucking joke.  fuck the us government.  fuck obama.  fuck bharara.  fuck dea fbi cia nsa fda any of them fucking douche bags.

this country has some of the most weak minded people ever.  none of them have a backbone and won't question authority and do what they are told because hey its the law.  haha.  bunch of fucking clowns.

plus we have a monkey with a terrorist name in office......that explains it all.  i think hitler could do a better job than that ninja

Yep, Romney would have waved a magic wand and the deficit would have disappeared.

I agree, let's cut wasteful spending, for every dollar you take away from domestic programs, you take one away from the military and one from foreign aid, sounds fair to me

I mean, I am no expert on politics or economics like most Getbiggers. However, I do know that even if Romney was in office, do people really think everything would just go back to being the way it was? Coach actually seems to believe this.  :-\

one thing romney would stop is the handouts.  too many people getting government assistance when they don't need it.  oh your poor? no phone?  obamas got you.  fuck that noise.  romney actually has experience running something well so yea i think he would have been the better choice.  luckily for obama he knows how to play into his peoples weaknesses.....aka free shit!!!!!

my mom does the hiring for her work (health field) and she interviewed this one black lady and was gonna give her the job.  she told the lady it was a requirement to work one sat a month.  this POS said "nah i don't work weekends, i can make the same staying on unemployment and stay home".  fuck that shit.  people like that need to die.  plain and simple.

how about the people that you know are on food stamps but yet they go out 3-4 times a week and post pics all over facebook of them in new clothes with drinks in hand.  thanks obama!!!!!

Even if Romney stopped the crazy bs that obama is doing  - that alone would have been a huge improvement.
