The city won’t let Blyly haul away his wreckage without a permit, and he can’t get a contractor to tell him how much it will cost to rebuild the store until that happens.

In St. Paul, where Jim Stage’s pharmacy burned down during the same disturbances, crews have already removed the bricks and scorched timbers. A steel fence keeps out trespassers. Stage expects construction of his new Lloyd’s Pharmacy to begin later this month.

The main reason for the different recoveries is simple: Minneapolis requires owners to prepay the second half of their 2020 property taxes in order to obtain a demolition permit. St. Paul does not.

“Minneapolis has not been particularly friendly toward business for some time,” said Blyly, who prepaid $8,847 in taxes last week but still hasn’t received his demolition permit. “They say they want to be helpful, but they certainly have not been.” City officials say their hands are tied, pointing to a state law that prohibits the removal of any structures or standing timber until all of the taxes assessed against the building have been fully paid.”

I think the average leftist has an external locus of control, which makes it convenient to blame everything on one person - they would probably prefer a dictator to be in power.  And no - leftists don't understand that states have the right to put a stop to these problems.  Trump is purposely not stepping in, because he knows the liberal state governments have the power to ate least attempt to stop this stuff before it gets out of hand.  They aren't doing that.

i have wondered about property tax issues myself. fortunately for me im not closed down. but other businesses that are,  i dont know why they would continue to pax property taxes. our local courthouses are shut down, only zoom meetings, and local goverment offices are shut down, so why do they need to be paid ?

i dont like it. if you want businesses to close , then dont collect taxes

Did you read the just released transcript of his sister ( federal court judge ) where she confirmed trump paid to have his SAT’s written for him ( by Joe Shapiro ) and calls him a liar who is only out for himself.

Once out of the white house, he’ll do time - just like Brannon ( is that 8 of his campaign officials indicated?)

I have a friend in Florida who’s house was completely condemned because of hurricane damage, the insurance company folded, and she had to pay the note and the taxes for years until it finally sold. I could see the argument that the city didn’t provide proper protection or something like that, but the right thing to do would be to at least suspend the taxes. That would wake the cities up to stopping this mess.
