A Morgan State University student who lived in the same home as a missing Joppatowne man now feared dead was charged with first-degree murder after parts of a human body were found inside the house and in a nearby dumpster. Now the suspect has admitted to eating portions of the man’s body parts, including his heart and brain.
Alexander Kinyua, 21, is being held on no bail.
Mike Hellgren has the latest details.
Police served a search warrant Wednesday morning at the home of that missing man and made a gruesome find. Parts of a human body were found at the home along Terrapin Terrace in Joppatowne.
Police say the brother of the suspect went down to the laundry room of the house and saw a blanket on a box. He pulled off the blanket and saw two metal tins. Police say he opened them and saw a head and two hands.
The brother confronted Alexander Kinyua about this. Alexander Kinyua said they were animal remains and not human remains.
The brother then got his dad. The dad went downstairs and the items were gone.
The suspect was seen cleaning the container.
During a search warrant, police got the head and hands. They then interviewed the suspect.
He told them he cut up the victim with a knife and ate the heart and portions of his brain.
“It’s very scary, especially knowing that it’s so close to home,” said neighbor Melinda Kraft.
Monica Worrell, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, says the body parts found in the home had yet to be identified by the chief medical examiner late Wednesday. But Worrell says authorities believe they are those of the missing man, Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie.
Police came to search the house where Agyei-Kodie lived. The 37-year-old vanished without a trace from his home last Friday

Alexander Kinyua allegedly admitted to killing his roommate, then eating his heart and portions of his brain.
In yet another horrifying incident of human flesh-eating this week, a student in Maryland allegedly admitted to devouring his roommate's brain and heart.
Alexander Kinyua, a 21-year-old Morgan State University student, admitted to murdering his roommate Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, who was reported missing last Friday, cops told the Baltimore Sun.
Kinyua's father called police late Tuesday night when Kinyua's brother reportedly found human remains -- a head and two hands -- in a metal tin in the basement. The brother and father left the room for a short time, but when they came back, the body parts had been moved and Kinyua was washing out the tin, the paper reported.
Officers searched the house and arrested Kinyua. The man allegedly confessed a shocking revelation: not only had he killed Agyei-Kodie by cutting him up with a knife and then dismembered him, he ingested parts of the victim's brain and all of his heart. He then allegedly dropped most of the remains in a Dumpster behind a church in Joppatowne.
It's yet unclear what Kinyua's motive may have been, but he was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday. In another incident on May 20, he was charged with first-degree assault when he allegedly beat a fellow student randomly with a baseball bat and then fled into the woods.
The gruesome case comes on the heels of a similar attack in Miami on Saturday, in which Rudy Eugene, 31, was killed by cops while in the process of chewing off most of a homeless man's face.
Ronald Poppo, 65, is alive, but the bizarre flesh-eating attack left doctors with a literal puzzle in how to put his face back together.

The recent spate of stories in the news about face-eating, ripping a man’s heart out of his chest, and serving one’s own penis for dinner has put cannibalism back on the map.
It’s horrifying, nauseating and suggests that the coming Zombiepocalypse may not be complete hogwash but it also presents a number of unanswered questions—questions that we should have answered considering that humans have been engaging in cannibalistic practices for millions of years.
From its root cause to the best body part to eat, we’ve answered all of the cannibal questions that you were just too scared to ask.
When did humans first start eating each other?

Anthropological data shows that millions of years ago, Homo antecessor, the link between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, were cannibalistic for nutritional reasons. Humans eventually developed more advanced hunting techniques in order to prey on animals since consuming each other was not a sustainable food source.
In 1492, when Columbus came to the Americas, he encountered the West Indies Carib tribe, who were ritually cannibalistic. The explorers mispronounced their name and called them Canibs instead of Caribs. According to Merriam-Webster the first known-use of the word cannibal was in 1553.
From the 16th through 18th centuries, blood, ground bones and other body parts were routinely used in what is referred to as medicinal cannibalism. Through cannibalism's history there has been a persistent theme that the vitality of the human body and spirit can be ingested to bestow power and life force upon human beings.
In the 20th century instances of survival cannibalism are known to have occurred in China up through the 1960s and even in North Korea more recently.
Is eating another person against the law?

Surprisingly no. In the United States and most European countries there are no outright laws against the consumption of human flesh. Most criminals who commit acts of cannibalism are charged with murder, desecration of corpses, or necrophilia.
Because the victims often consent to the act it can be difficult to find a charge, which was what happened with the famous Miewes case in Germany. His victim responded to an internet ad: “looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered and then consumed." He's now serving a life sentence.

No one really knows. Aside from ritualistic and survival cannibalism, there's only speculation as to why criminal cannibalism occurs. Cannibalism is not listed in the DSM, the bible of psychiatric ailments, but psychologists have speculated that it may relate to childhood trauma relating to separation anxiety from the mother and resulting oral aggression. Maybe criminals who commit acts of cannibalism are found to suffer from schizophrenia.
In some of the most horrific cases, are elements of sexual cannibalism where people derive sexual satisfaction from fantasizing about and consuming humans.
During the Miewes trials in 2004 and 2006, he revealed his motivation:
...Meiwes said he had always dreamt of having a younger brother -- "someone to be part of me" -- and had become fascinated with cannibalism as a way to fulfil that obsession.
He was not alone. Miewes had contact with over 400 menon the internet who were interested in cannibalism.

Drugs. Many of the cases you're seeing in the news are the result of drug-induced psychotic episodes. According to NPR, the guy in the Miami face-eating incident was most likely under the influence of bath salts.
The U.S. cage fighter who ripped the heart out of his training partner after he believed he was possessed had allegedly drunk a cup of tea spiked with hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Gizmodo recently did a post explaining that cocaine-psychosis is a real thing and is likely the cause of some bizarre (face-eating) violent crimes.
Is it socially acceptable to eat any part of the human body?

Not really. But there's been a recent focus on placentophagy, women eating their own placenta after giving birth, especially after celebrities like January Jones revealed eating hers after the birth of her son.
Some mothers get their doula or a professional placenta-preparer to dry and then encapsulate their placenta, make it into a broth or cook and serve it post childbirth. In nature, many mammals eat their own placenta for nutrition but humans don't have the same need since they're able to rebuild their bodies after pregnancy through vitamins and regular food.
Advocates claim that the placenta returns post-pregnancy body to health, reduces post partum depression, helps to shrink the uterus and aid in breast feeding. But the scientific basis for the nutritional value in consuming placenta is tenuous at best.

Who are the most famous cannibals?

Most notably, the Silence of the Lambs characters Jame Gumb, more commonly known as Buffalo Bill for his line, "It puts the lotion in its skin" and Hannibal Lecter. Buffalo Bill is a composite of serial killer Ted Bundy, who pretended to be injured in order to ask his victims for assistance, Ed Gein, who killed and skinned women and made their hide into suits which he wore, and a Philadelphia criminal who kept women in a five and a half foot deep pit in the ground.
It's more ambiguous who served as the inspiration for Thomas Harris' Hannibal but apparently the author once told a librarian in his hometown that the character was based off of murderer William Coyne who escaped prison in 1934 and went on a cannibalistic murdering spree.
Other notable real cannibals are the Stella Maris Rugby team who ate fellow teammates after their plane crashed in the Andes in 1972; Jeffrey Dahmer, American necrophiliac cannabilistic serial killer who was murdered in prison; Armin Miewes, mentioned throughout this story; and Albert Fish, cannibal, serial killer and pedophile who was executed at Sing Sing in 1936.
What does the Bible say about cannibalism?

A lot. Many of the references to cannibalism have to do with the siege of Jerusalem and what would happen in the Israelites disobeyed God. Here's one from Jeremiah 19:9:
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh during the stress of the siege imposed on them by the enemies who seek their lives.
There are also numerous verses where human sacrifice is mentioned. In some verses it is demanded by God and in others child sacrifice is forbidden.
We'll let the theologians decide whether these references are metaphorical or literal.
Can eating a human kill you?

The Korowai tribe of Papau New Gunieau are the last known group of cannibals. According to a 2006 story from Smithsonian Magazine, the practice is still ingrained in their culture:
Using Kembaren as translator, he explains why the Korowai kill and eat their fellow tribesmen. It's because of the khakhua, which comes disguised as a relative or friend of a person he wants to kill. "The khakhua eats the victim's insides while he sleeps," Boas explains, "replacing them with fireplace ash so the victim does not know he's being eaten. The khakhua finally kills the person by shooting a magical arrow into his heart." When a clan member dies, his or her male relatives and friends seize and kill the khakhua. "Usually, the [dying] victim whispers to his relatives the name of the man he knows is the khakhua," Boas says. "He may be from the same or another treehouse."
I ask Boas whether the Korowai eat people for any other reason or eat the bodies of enemies they've killed in battle. "Of course not," he replies, giving me a funny look. "We don't eat humans, we only eat khakhua."
But the practice has declined.
Many tribes that practiced ritualistic cannibalism began dying en masse from a disease called Kuru, like the human equivalent to Mad Cow disease, which effects the brain and nervous systems. Consuming animal or human flesh that contains an infected protein or prion causes brain deterioration, loss of motor control and eventually death.
Even if you don't die from a prion disease, mass consumption of human anatomy doesn't appear to be good for the body. An autopsy was performed on Tarrate, a famous French cannibal from the 18th century, to find that his body was filled with pus, ulcers and an abnormally large stomach, liver and gallbladder.
What do humans taste like?

The answer is overwhelmingly pork, which may be why the idiomitic culinary term for human flesh is "long pig." Miewes, our favorite German cannibal, said in an interview from his jail cell that: "The flesh tastes like pork, a little bit more bitter, stronger. It tastes quite good."
In the 1920s a couple of German serial killers sold human meat on the black market labelled as pork.
In 1981, a Japanese man Issei Sagawa, cannibalized a Dutch student. He's currently free, living in Japan since the French declared him and insane and refused to send the court documents to Japan in order to prosecute him for murder. In an interview with Vice, he said that human meat is odorless and not gamey. If given the chance, he'd like to eat a Japanese woman, "I think either sukiyaki or shabu shabu is the best way to go in order to really savor the natural flavor of the meat."

The brain and muscles are probably your best bet according to Yale certified nutritionist Dr. Jim Stoppani. Muscles offer protein and the brain would provide slow-burning energy since it's high in fat and glucose. Yet the brain does present an added risk since it's the part of the body with the highest concentration in prions, which give rise to the fatal disease Kuru.
The liver and kidneys are filled with waste products since they're part of the body's filtration system so best to avoid those. Eyes contain an acidic solution which can make humans sick, fingers and toes are filled with cartilage, which your body won't digest and penises are spongy and have little nutritional value.

(CNN) -- Hours after his family members alerted police to a human head and two hands they discovered stashed in metal tins, a Maryland man admitted killing his housemate, cutting him up, then eating his heart and part of his brain, authorities said.
Alexander Kinyua, 21, was being held without bail Thursday at the Harford County Detention Center after being charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
His roommate, Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, had left his Joppatowne home six days earlier for an apparent early morning jog. Wearing a T-shirt and shorts, he left his wallet, cell phone and identification at home.
On Tuesday, Antony Kinyua -- Alexander Kinyua's father -- called a Harford County detective assigned to the missing person's case and told him about his other son's gruesome discovery.

According to the charging document, the other son explained to the detective how he had come across two metal tins covered by a blanket in the basement laundry room of Agyei-Kodie's Joppatowne residence. He opened the tins and found the head and hands.
The brother said he "confronted (Alexander Kinyua), who denied the remains were human," then went upstairs to get his father, the detective said in the charging document. When the father and son returned to the basement, "the items he observed were gone and ... Alex Kinyua was cleaning the container he observed them in."
Two Harford County detectives later arrived on the scene and discovered the head and hands on the home's main floor.
Reports: Miami 'zombie' attacker may have been using 'bath salts'
"He admitted to killing our missing person, Mr. Kodie, and cutting him up with a knife," Harford County Sheriff Jesse Bane told reporters Thursday. "He further stated that he consumed Mr. Kodie's internal organs -- specifically his heart and portions of his brain."
The suspect told detectives to go to the parking lot of the nearby Town Baptist Church, where they could -- and did -- find the rest of Agyei-Kodie's remains in a dumpster.
The missing person's report filed Saturday described the 37-year-old Agyei-Kodie as "very intelligent." He had earned multiple master's degrees from schools in Ghana and was also a graduate student at Morgan State University, even though he wasn't taking classes there at the time of his death.
Kinyua was affiliated with the same state university in Baltimore. The engineering student was one of 175 people showcased in an August 2011 symposium run by the prestigious Los Alamos National Laboratory. His study focused on the cost-effectiveness and productivity of "comfort control" systems regulating heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

The Baltimore-area man accused of killing, dismembering, and eating his roommate has a long and disturbing virtual past.
Alexander Kinyua is suspected of killing Kujoe Agyei-Kodie and eating parts of Agyei-Kodie's brain.
But before America knew him as the country's latest cannibal, Kinyua was prominent on a bevy of websites.
While his Internet presence is scattered at best, Kinyua seemed to focus on military documents, videos depicting fighting, and a general appreciation of violence and disorder.
He once hosted a radio show dubbed Warrior Syndicate Radio. His show's profile features Kinyua covered in green and white war paint.
The show, according to Kinyua, was for "warriors skilled in combat or warfare … coming together to form a syndicate learning portal for Warrior Clans," The Baltimore Sun reported.
Kinyua, posting under the name "COREeye67," was a major player on social media as well.
"I liked a @YouTube video MEXICAN ILLEGAL ALIENS TARGET BLACK AMERICANS FOR DEATH," stated a COREeye67 tweet from December 10.
Many of his tweets don't seem to follow a coherent string of consciousness. However, he tweeted "COME HELL OR HIGH WATER!!!! KEEP ON, KEEPING ON!!!" hundreds of time.
While both his YouTube and Scribd accounts were shut down, cached Scribd documents show a fascination with weapons. One such document instructed readers on the proper way to use a rifle sling.
A second document, co-opted from the Headquarters Department of the Army, was meant to teach soldiers how to best conduct an urban assault. He also posted a how-to guide for maintaining the M16A1 rifle.
On a video entitled Black Gods Attack, Kinyua commented "I JUST MADE MY OWN QUOTE: No bastard ever won a war by dying for his GODS AND GODDESSES. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his GODS AND GODDESSES.

It's called news sensationism. This type of thing has likely happened before, but more and more news outlets are reporting on it. Add the worldwide expanse of the internet and people start to see trends. You'll likely see more of these stories over the next few years. It is similar to Columbine massacre. After that happened and was endlessly reported, there came a string of similar shootings.

A former employee of a Swedish medical university is accused of cutting his wife's lips off and eating them.
The Local says the Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper reported that the unnamed man allegedly flew into a rage after he became suspicious that his much younger wife was having an affair.

As for why the man allegedly ate the lips, AFP reports that "he didn't want the lips to be able to be sewn back on," according to the same unnamed source.
It was widely reported that the suspect was an employee of the Karolinska Institutet, but the medical university released a statement distancing itself from the man.
"It is, of course, a very tragic story," University Director Bengt Norrving said in the release. "But since the researcher in question is not an employee of Karolinska Institutet we are unable to consider legal action."
The university explains that the suspect was once a long-time employee, but now works at another university. "He does, however, still collaborate to a certain degree with his former research group," the release said.

Nevertheless, recent incidents in which humans reportedly ate human flesh have the Internet in a firestorm, with "zombie apocalypse" being Google's third most popular search term by Friday morning.
The zombie craze seemed to start with an attack in Miami on Saturday, when Rudy Eugene, 31, was killed by cops while in the process of eating almost the entirety of a homeless man's face off. The victim, Ronald Poppo, miraculously survived, but doctors are having a hard time figuring out how to put his face back together.

Cops in Canada are also searching for a low-budget porn actor who allegedly killed a young man with an ice pick, dismembered the body and then raped and ate flesh from the corpse. Luka Rocco Magnotta is being hunted after he allegedly mailed some of the body parts to Ottawa. He's also accused of killing cats on video and posting the footage online.
Gawker fingered a "mysterious rash" breakout at a high school in Hollywood and other parts of Florida -- which hazmat and disease control teams still can't explain -- as further proof that zombies are taking over.
Zombie-like characteristics have been confirmed in the animal kingdom, just not in humans. A newfound fungus in a Brazilian rain forest -- called Ophiocordyceps camponoti-balzani -- is known to infect an ant, take over its brain so as to move the body to a good location for growth, and then kill the insect.
Yet Daigle dismissed "fictional viruses" like Ataxic Neurodegenrative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome, noting that other triggers have been alleged to cause zombie-like symptoms.
"Films have included radiation as well as mutations of existing conditions such as prions, mad-cow disease, measles, and rabies," he said.
But recently, some have found truth stranger than fiction.
