I would dial in for 1992, Gold's Venice, hopefully land in with a pair of Otomix on, a HUGE NPC sweatshirt (with a string tank under), american flag high waist baggy pants and a solid fanny pack filled with Cheque drops, Esciclene and possibily real parabolan.. maybe carrying a Carillo belt over my left shoulder..

I'd go to the future. 2062, 2112, etc. Once we get into a second generation steroid, gene manipulation, and genetic engineering, whatever would the "bodybuilders" of the far future look like? But by then, as a competition activity, bodybuilding would likely be non-existent. And so would gyms and health clubs. If one wanted big muscles, they would simply see a physician or scientist. There would no such thing as "lifting weights."

Me too! the mid 80's were a great time to compete and be around bodybuilding.
why?
1. Gyms were numerous by then and plenty of hardcore gyms, thrived during that time.
Before the 80's gyms were much fewer in number.
2. The NPC and AAU had plenty of contests to compete in or attend.
3. It was 100% bodybuilding , no figure, no fitness, MPD or no bikini divisions.
4. It was possible to get real steroids directly from a gym manager at a cheap price.
This was before the 1990 law that made steroids a felony offense.
I would use just winnie V in the 30 ml vial for my entire precontest drug cycle.
It was cheap , effective and safe!
5. Lee Haney was Mr Olympia then. nuff' said

I did see the original Golds in the 70's along with muscle beach .
Went out there with a buddy and had a cheap, no frills "summer vacation.
Former owner Ken Sprague turned the gym into an apt and later sold it and it became a resturant.
Muscle Beach was a huge let down for me as were many of the famous old gyms .
What made the golden era of the 60's and 70's was a small, well known , group of bodybuilders.
I suspect, you and others would be disapointed seeing just the gyms back then.
BUT, if you walked into Golds in mid 70's with Arnold, Franco, Waller, etc all training it would be something.
Real hardcore bodybuilding gyms were quite rare back then and few places had one.
-
The hype never matches the reality. Muscle Beach is nothing- except on Memorial Day, 4thof July and Labor Day when Joe Wheatly puts on the Venice Invitational. Those are fun, especially as a competitor. The crowd doesn't know the difference, so if you're tall and heavily muscled you're like Arnold for a day. Then hit the funnel cakes!...
-
^i would agree nobody's ever working out in that outside gym
-
I'd go to Essen 1972 to see for myself if Sergio really should have won....and go to a Led Zeppelin concert afterwards.
-
1997 so I could prevent those ninjas from beating up flex thus forcing him out from the olympia that year
-
i like to see zanes mr o and training,,then off to the 88 mro,,then 91-96 mro's and arnold classics,,in 2000's cutler's close call to coleman 2002?...
-
Fuck bodybuilding... I'd go back in time to the biggest powerball lottery jackpot and play the numbers. ;D
But if I could only do it for BBing, I'd pick 1968 or so.
