We choose to support their economic growth because they produce cheap, but their quality is nothing to shout about. Most people that boast about China have deep rooted dislike for the US which extends from jealousy, which is why they constantly talk about how big a force China is.

If the USA started FORCING (like China) children to train specific sports from the age of three for every day of their lives until the age of 18 so they could compete in the Olympics, then I suspect we would be winning 2x as many gold medals as China. As it stands, the best athletes in the USA are too busy making millions of dollars playing professional sports to bother competing in gymnastics and other events the general populace doesn't care about.

The old infrastructure makes current lifestyle possible, with billions of foreign money flowing in daily just to support it.

But as we all know, U.S. is a stock that's about to collapse. Soon there will be a major adjustment. And Chinese, being much smarter than americans, will keep on growing all the way to world domination in 20 years or so. If they already kick U.S. ass at the olympics while still being far from reaching their potential, what will the olympics in 2028 be like? Probably something like China 50 golds, U.S. 20 golds. Matters very little how the medals come, U.S. will have some kind of excuse they're going to use.

Very childish and irrelevant post. Obviously every race has genetics suited to particular sports, Chinese as well as most Asians recognise they will never have the explosive power that US has. However, they do have very good eye hand coordination and therefore aim to collect as many medals as possible in the events they are best suited to. It is similar to a Country which specialises in a particular raw material and in one in which they enjoy comparative advantage.

You are an idiot.  The thread starter only compared gold medal count. His only basis for claiming Chinese superiority was HOW many gold medals they won, while at the same time ignoring how many medals in total were won by the USA.  The TOTAL number of medals is what it is important as that is the number that is always emphasized at the end of each Olympics. Emphasized by EACH country.

Countries like the USA, RUSSIA and China don't go into the games thinking "Oh, we will see how many medals we get in the events that is more suitable to us". That is your thinking and it is an over analyzed point at that. I was addressing what the basis of the thread starter's thinking. Which was China was the top dog because it had more medals. Nothing could be farther from the truth and unlike you I supported mine with stats.

Not to be super fruity, but even to get to the Olympics is a huge acccomplishment, and Bob Costas is pissing me right off acting like people who won silvers and bronzes "failed", to win an Olympic silver is great, to even make finals is great.
