Oh no. Now who will recite bad poetry with unnecessary seriousness at her funeral? The chain is broken!

That's the worst fucking poem I've ever read.

Is that seriously something people consider good?

Responsible for the underground railroad and started the civil rights movement when she wouldn't sit at the back of the bus. She was a great lady.

Poetry is kind of like modern art, its just there to make pretentious idiots feel superior and pretend they like it.

Who the hell is Maya Angelou and why should I give a fuck.

She was Ray Charles' half sister and an even better pianist in my opinion. She was great during those early 90's Pepsi commercials with the Uh Huh Girls

Tell me this isn't good, about a kid who is called to office in school after his 4 year old brother was killed by a car.
Quote
Mid-Term Break by Seamus Heaney
I sat all morning in the college sick bay
Counting bells knelling classes to a close.
At two o'clock our neighbors drove me home.

In the porch I met my father crying--
He had always taken funerals in his stride--
And Big Jim Evans saying it was a hard blow.

The baby cooed and laughed and rocked the pram
When I came in, and I was embarrassed
By old men standing up to shake my hand

And tell me they were "sorry for my trouble,"
Whispers informed strangers I was the eldest,
Away at school, as my mother held my hand

In hers and coughed out angry tearless sighs.
At ten o'clock the ambulance arrived
With the corpse, stanched and bandaged by the nurses.

Next morning I went up into the room. Snowdrops
And candles soothed the bedside; I saw him
For the first time in six weeks. Paler now,

Wearing a poppy bruise on his left temple,
He lay in the four foot box as in his cot.
No gaudy scars, the bumper knocked him clear.

A four foot box, a foot for every year.

There is an old Skool saying, "words are like bullets"
So, shooting with words, is using the words as bullets.
There is term used sometimes "a cutting glance". So, you are giving a look at someone like you want to cut them, harm them.

And, you have to think about the time, it was published in 1978 (And Still I rise) during the Black Empowerment era (Afros, etc).
It was written in free verse. So that is the reason why  the rhyme scheme is diff. But, the imagery is there. Especially for those who had to live during the Civil Rights era.
