The USA isn't perfect but I strongly believe that American capitalism is hugely responsible for the well-being of Canada on the whole. Do Canadians have gratitude for this? Not as much as they should in my opinion. If the USA is so horrible, how come so many people risk their lives to live there? I think the USA is the land of milk and honey, if there ever was one.

Couple of days ago I watched Bruce Willis' "Striking Distance" on tv and so he is a "river cop" and he stopped boat full of teenagers speeding and he pulled the most strenuous Eastwood badass look at me I'm so tough face he could and barely said anything other than "here's your ticked" and "gimme your liquour" (which he dumbed into the river). He was as distant and as much of an asshole he could. I'm trying to understand the situation here. Do American people maybe like asshole cops? (Because they are the heroes on tv?) Or are the Hollywood movies just the reflection of the culture that already was in place before the movies?

There is much truth to this gentleman's statement. In my line of work, I often travel to London for conferences and for various training activities and folks on the other side of the pond can't stand Americans.
The truth of the matter is that the world outside of the USA is BEAUTIFUL and sometimes as Americans we forget that there is civilization just outside of our borders. Spain, Greece and Italy are places that I could retire in for true comfort and economic stability.
Sadly, the comments about our education not being on par with the rest of the civilized world are true. We need to step it up.

If you believe this, you should familiarize yourself with the US Statutory laws. Many states statutory limits are 16, not 18, and in order to violate the law the "actor" needs to be more than X years older than the victim. Some states statutory limit is as low as 13. Prison times vary state to state. This is not controlled by federal government.

I have lived in mainland China (Zhengzhou) and currently live in Hong Kong. You can trace my IP or something if you like. Let me tell you something: Most police in mainland China don't even carry weapons. No guns, no batons, no tasers. I have NEVER seen them harass anybody. When they speak to you, they tend to speak politely. They are FAR less confrontational and violent than American police.
I've lived in the USA and Canada prior to living here. IMO Toronto is the closest thing I've ever seen to a 'police state,' and most of the USA ain't that much better. I certainly trust Chinese police much more than I trust American police. You'd have to be out of your goddamn mind to call the police in America...

I got arrested when I was 16 for "intent to harm others with explosives." I spent a long time in juvenile detention and still can't get a job with my electrical engineering degree with my record. I made a couple of fireworks to throw in my backyard and my life is messed up because of it. For me it is the land of milk and honey....I can say this because I live here, I am a natural born U.S. citizen and my life is good. My point was that folks living elsewhere can only imagine what it is like to live here. Oh, and I have traveled a bit. What I've discovered is that the U.S. doesn't have exclusive rights to milk and honey. There are many great places to live....Germany or France for instance.
