Title: Draft in order. NBA Edition
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on June 18, 2013, 09:56:46 AM
Who you got if you were starting a team, then list your top 5?

A) Lebron James
B) Larry Bird
C) Shaq
D) Michael Jordan
E) Dwight Howard
F) Allen Iverson
G) Magic Johnson
H) Kobe Cryant
I) Tim Duncan

Starting a team, I think I would go Shaq.  At his best he dominated.

But in order of greatness
1. Jordan
2. Shaq
3. Magic
4. Bird
5. Kobe

What is this bullshit? No Duncan? No Kareem or Wilt? Fat ass Shaq? Loser Howard? Degenerate Iverson?

Good point, I left off Duncan by accident.  I am making it more recent than players of old.  Shaq in his prime was unstoppable.

If I was starting a team I would draft Magic Johnson first

My top 5 greatest players are

1.  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
2.  Michael Jordan
3.  Magic Johnson
4.  Bill Russell
5.  Kobe Bryant

Honorable mention goes to Larry Bird and Tim Duncan.

What's important to me is skill, will and team results.  In my opinion these 5 are the best.  Wilt, Shaq, or Lebron might be a "better" individual player than some of these guys but I don't think they stack up mentally with my top 5.  Their teams underachieved relative to their overwhelming physical dominance.  Lebron could move up this list but if he loses in the finals again this year then he is done.

As you see, I have a brutal combo of offense and defense.

The other guys wouldn't fit in with this team's chemistry

HAHAHAHAHAHA

?

Lebron, Bird and Hakeem don't care about being alpha dog as much as winning, and Shaq would fall inline since Jordan is the most respected player in maybe all sports (on field/court etc)

Wasn't my draft order btw, but ideal team, draft order would be

Jordan
Shaq
Lebron
Bird
Hakeem

Jordan
Bird
Hakeem
Shaq

LOL this team would lose alot of games, no point guards or power fowards and no shaq and hakeem cant play power forward.

and for all you that have kobe on your list. Stop it, his a cancer.

Magic
Jordan
Lebron
Shaq
duncan

role players will be players like dale ellis or dennis scott for 3pt shooting.
rodman and chris webber..webber can play centre for 10 minutes
Isiah thomas as back up point guard or even Mark Price.
Scottie pippen for defense.

LoL at adding Iverson or Kobe. IT would like Denver when they got Iverson and carmelo together, it did not end well.

Hakeem was THE power forward for Houston along with Ralph Sampson at center back in the eighties. He took them to the finals as power forward......Who needs a point gaurd with that lineup, just play triangle offence. The 96 bulls sure sucked with no real point gaurd didn't they , alternating with harper, Pippen and Jordan.Jordan has had triple doubles at the point, as has Lebron.

Kerr wasn't a point gaurd other than needing to have 1 of the 5 tags, he was a spot up shooter who averaged a monster 20mpg and under 2 assists! Compared to Jordan and Pippen averaging around 6 assists and Harper 3.Kerr was on the floor to hit the open 3 when Jordan and Pippen were doubled.

Lebron
Jordan
Bird
Hakeem
Shaq

You couldn't assemble a better team than that

And why I assembled that team?Ill let Phil Jackson tell you himself

"On the 1995-96 Bulls team that won 72 games:
That was a transcendent team. It was a team that changed the basketball format. Everybody was looking for a point guard – a Chris Paul or Isiah Thomas type guard that could lead – we went with two big guards. We went with Scottie Pippen and Ron Harper. Steve Kerr off the bench was our small guard at 6-3. … Our team was Harper, Pippen, Jordan, Toni Kukoc and Dennis Rodman playing whoever had to be played. We had a team where anybody could play any position, anybody could advance the basketball, and anybody was capable of scoring, except Dennis Rodman."

The positions these guys can play
Lebron- pg sg sf pf
Jordan- pg sg sf ( wouldn't put power forward on offence past him in this shit bigs league, he'd be the best post player in the league now)
Bird- pg sg sf pf ( practically invented the point forward spot)
Hakeem - Pf C ( probably talented and mobile enough to play some sf too)
Shaq C

In my opinion the traditional positions label needs to be thrown out the window now, too many mobile tall guys with size who can shoot.

I think this team will put a hurtin' on anything you guys have posted. A good "team" team with great offense and insane defense.

1. Jordan
2. Abdul-Jabbar
3. Duncan
4. Parker
5. Pippen

Again, I don't see the need for Parker with Pippen and Jordan on the team, as good a conventional point gaurd as he is, you'd be better off putting a multi position player in for him.Parker would end up just standing around watching the others.

Parker is the best point guard in the NBA. He's a great passer, insane court sense, can shoot from anywhere on the court oh and let's not forget, 3 rings...soon to be 4.

Great talent but not a winner. D.Wilkens is the same.

I was just thinking with the team i listed, i like to take it back, theres no need for that many stars on one roster

Magic
Jordan
Shaq
Duncan
Lebron
just give me any 2 of these guys and it would be great. To many stars dont work.

Best starting 5 team ever. That's not order of individual greatness but teamwise.

Honestly, since we all have Jordan, theres no need for magic or malone or even duncan, just give Jordan and great passing centre, and throw in a role playing power forward like rodman or horace grant.

Jordan is unstoppable and a ball hog,  you cant have shaq cause he needs to ball to be effective, I rather Alonzo, I like shaq better as a player but Alonzo is the better complimentary player.

give me any point guard, as long as they can dribble and hit the open 3.

Jordan
Rodman
Alonzo or Hakeem...
isiah thomas( this guy is pretty good, everyone forgot.
Scottie Pippen (I got to put this guy in cause he and micheal played great together)

most of your team look better then this team but i dont think magic and jordan would work on the same team, jordan needs to create his own shot and dribbles the ball heaps, lebron and kobe copied jordan.
Magic was great on fastbreaks, horrible shooter and could barely dunk.
Alonzo is a better shot blocker then shaq, i loved shaq but after his 2nd year in the league he forgot how to block shots.
Alonzo is also better motivated, career was fucked up with kidney issues.
Isiah is a good shooter, great on the dribble,  he was quick too, and he fucked up the knicks single handedly with dumb trades.
Scottie pippen had to be there he knows how to play with jordan and his great on defense.
Rodman is a great defender, best rebounder ever and tenacious.
