Always been my favourite genre, which is pretty rare for Englismen.
Some of my favourite artists are Randy Travis, Josh Turner, Johnny Cash, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton etc.
Do most people over the Pond share this love?

I'll give you Johnny Cash, but the rest are contrived Nashville pop acts.

Yeah, I like a bit of johnny Cash, Kristofferson and Townes Van Zandt.
Not really into the more modern stuff.
-

If you liked Country music you wouldn't think it contrived at all. By that logic, Elvis was decent but every other male rock artist since is commercial rubbish.
-
I like it just not the new stuff tho. I've seen Randy Travis in concert. Also Shania Twain, Sara Evans, and brad paisley.
Have always had a major hard on for Shania :P
George Strait is one of my favorites.
-
County is good music to listen to. Happy and upbeat message without too many curse words and doesn't talk about killing or drugs.
That said, I like older country as well. I just seem to have found it over the last few years. I think it's a rite of passage for 30 year old white people.
-
who doesnt like johhny cash if they like country?,burning ring of fire rocks.i just rewatched the movie/comedy WALK HARD.THE DEWEY COX STORY and he did some johnny cash stuff in there and even did alot of johnnys crazy stuff he did in life with the drugs and stuff

Shania Twain was massively hot.

Country music concerts are possibly the best place to meet women here. 5:1 ratio of women:men is about average and most of the women are smoking-hot.
That's about all its good for if you ask me, but opinions vary of course

Met George Strait few years back...Super nice guy. Down to earth fella... Then he got on his jet and few out of my life... Was hoping for an invite to his ranch... no homo

Most country now is the same shit processed over and over.
if you want to hear original new country that actually sounds good the you should check out The Cadillac Three ;)

Love Johnny Cash. My dad was a fan so I grew up listening to his stuff. Again, it's rare for guy in his 20's, born in the UK of Asian ethnicity to listen to country but good music is good music.
One of my favourite tracks:
-
takes balls to admit the love for country music
-
Just listening to them now, cheers pal.
Loving 'The South'
Hahaha, they should do a U.K. version that mentions, Brighton, Southampton, Portsmouth etc
-

I figured we've had posters here admitting to gay prostitution, having aids etc etc so this is a pretty mild admission ;D
-

Yeah they are pretty cool, lol they all look like they should be in a 70's rock band.
-
country music is a difficult music genre, there is so much corny uptempo shit with silly lyrics that is hard to listen to, but once in a while i stumble upon something that is alright, mostly ballads...
as for johnny cash i prefer the late cash with his covers of modern songs.
-
Yeah they are pretty cool, lol they all look like they should be in a 70's rock band.
The have some pretty strong riffs for a 'country band', Tennessee Mojo is even a bit ACDC

They get labeled both country and rock.

Great tracks BB.
-
Newer guy... Great classic sound... not that "hick-hop" shit
-
A track i've been listening to all week is Josh Turner 'Would you go with me' real nice folky country.
-
what about MARSHAL TUCKER BAND, guess that would b considered southern rock not country right?
-
I grew up on George Strait, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Hee-Haw, etc...
Later Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Reba and other late 80s and 90s country.
-

I think a good way to distinguish, would be asking yourself if you would sing along to it in public. If yes, then it's not real Country music ;D For example, i'm on the bus and Randy Travis 'Forever and ever' comes on i'm like "This is my tune!!!!!!" but you don't sing along to it.

We're losing all the outlaws that had to stand their ground and they're being replaced by these kids from a manufactured town and they don't have no idea about sorrow and woe because they're all just too damn busy kissing ass on music road. So, I'm here to put the dick in Dixie and the girl back in country, because the kind of country I hear nowadays is a bunch of fucking shit to me. They say that I'm ill mannered and I'm gonna self destruct but if you know what I'm thinking you'll know that pop country really sucks.

Great big clods of manure being kicked in this thread.

Been to 2 country concerts..brooks and Dunn which was awesome. They sound great live. The other was Keith urban in 2001 at a smaller venue in auburn, WA. Urban is unbelievable on guitar. He jammed for about 45 minutes after playing his songs and played all sorts of stuff like acdc and zeppelin.

Very Greg Allman-ish southern rock outlaw type.

Hokey BS ::)
The beginnings of the contrived so-called women of country
A woman with a REAL voice and exceptional range who can really belt it out =
Patty Loveless. Incredible voice. She's never been given the media recognition cuz she's not one of the "hot ones".
Beautiful duet with George

Play this and I'll country jig all over the house!! Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaw!!!
-
Patty Loveless and Vince Gill. Get ready to shed a tear. Watch and listen starting at 7:45
@ George Jones' funeral
Vince wrote that song after his brother's suicide and you can bet his breakdown during that performance wasn't only for George. I love how Patty carries him.

'Timber I'm falling in love', 'Blame it on your heart', 'How can I help you say goodbye', 'I think about Elvis', 'Lonely too Long', 'You don't seem to miss me' are just a few.
That woman had a ton of good songs. She could pull off the ballads plus the more lighter, funnier type stuff as well.

I think what sets her apart from Patsy and Loretta Lynn, is that Patty was singing proper country at a time when it wasn't cool in the late 80's early 90's.

Exactly.
There was really just a handful of mainstream males and females doing the more traditional stuff at that particular time.
-
Can't fucking stand it. Johnny Cash doesn't count of course... :)

Nope, not a fan of that "yahoo" music....

Of course, every one hates country music "except for Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson". ::)
Those same folks have never owned a single album, cd or mp3 from either of them LOL. Just "cool" to love them.

I always thought Joe Diffie was pretty cool!
Not really traditional but I liked some of his songs.

Not a fan, no.
But there's nothing wrong with the music. Just not my thing.
Shania was massively hot. But ... She was nothing much before she met Mutt Lange and now, with them being divorced, she is nothing again. Without the guy, Twain is just some ageing country-pop queen without the songwriting goods to maintain a relevant music career. Sad but true.
P.S. Some terrific musicians in the country world.

Comanche: Custer Column's Sole Battle Survivor
(http://www.horsecarecourses.com/.a/6a015391a867e3970b016764864931970b-800wi)
Comanche Restoration Project
University of Kansas naturalist Lewis Lindsay Dyche prepared Comanche for exhibition at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893. Following the fair, Comanche was returned to the KU Natural History Museum. Following a major restoration and conservation effort in 2004, the museum began exhibiting Comanche in a new exhibit, where the horse remains today as a popular attraction. (Photo KUNHM)
Comanche (1862-1891) was a 15 hand buckskin bay gelding, and the sole survivor of Custer's column from the myles keogh battle of the little big hornBattle of the Little Big Horn. He was purchased by the U.S. Army in 1868 in
St. Louis, Missouri, and was sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he became the personal mount of Captain Myles Keogh of the 7th Cavalry. During his military service, Comanche was wounded several times, and was admired for his bravery and toughness.
Keogh rode Comanche into battle on June 25, 1876, and was found two days later in a ravine badly wounded, very weak and barely able to stand. The horse suffered three severe wounds: through his neck, through his front shoulder and to his hind quarter; and four flesh wounds. Comanche was transported to Fort Lincoln aboard the steamer the Far West along with other casualties. He was slowly nursed back to health, retired, and orders were given that he should never be ridden again.
myles keogh comanche retired battle of the little big horn Comanche was eventually sent to Fort Riley, Kansas. He acted as a regimental mascot and occasionally lead parades until his death in 1891. His remains were sent to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where they were preserved and mounted.

I always thought Joe Diffie was pretty cool!
Not really traditional but I liked some of his songs.
And let's not forget Honky Tonk Attitude. I was pissed that i missed Diffie last year due to a friend's wedding and he was literally playing 10 minutes away. I should've snuck out.
I'm also a big fan of Blackhawk
They also wrote this song although Restless Heart made it popular
-
Anybody a fan of Honky Tonk Hustlas or The Bottom Dwellers ???

Country music sucks , all singers sound the same and they sing about the same shit , trucks , dirt road , Jesus , booze , girls , tight jeans.

We all have "friends in low places"!

Couldn't have said it better. Without Mutt, Shania's career non-existent. He is ridiculously talented at crafting perfect melodies that cannot be forgotten. A pop music genius.
And for the record I despise 95% of C&W particularly the mainstream stuff. To each their own, much of the metal I favor I know others would consider unlistenable.
-
Of course, every one hates country music "except for Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson". ::)
Those same folks have never owned a single album, cd or mp3 from either of them LOL. Just "cool" to love them.
I thinks Johnny transcends the genre actually. And I saw Willie way back in 1978 when he played with the Dead and NRPS at the Meadowlands in Jersey. My first Dead show, and it was killer. Willie put on a great show as well. Also saw Charlie Daniels with Papa John Creach back in the day. Good show.
I actually think there are a lot of musically talented country musicians out there, and musically, they have my respect. That twangy shit just isn't my thing though. Goes totally against my grain. Used to be a "southern rock" fan back in the day, but that's as close as I came. I've seen the Outlaws and Molly hatchet back in the early 80's. Never got to see Skynyrd unfortunately. The Allman's are one of my favorite bands to this day, and their 2009 show at the Gorge was one of the best shows I've ever seen. But true country, with the yodeling voices and twang just bugs the shit out of me. I'd much rather listen to true rock or blues.

No mention of this Billy Ray Cyrus yet?!
Back when I was younger him and Garth Brooks BS were all I knew of country. Some good old stuff out there though, can't speak for modern stuff. Some fine women in the world of country too.
I find it can be good cruising music. Bit of Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Kris K go down well on a long drive.
The Rolling Stones did some nice country style numbers way back in the day- Country Honk, Dead Flowers, Sweet Black Angel plus others.

Billy Ray Cyrus had some pretty good songs that were unfortunately overshadowed by a song that doesn't even need to be mentioned. Guy had the best mullet in country music and a chisled jaw. Definitely a lifter
